Leishmaniasis is a protozoan tropical infection that is estimated to be more than 0.3 million new cases occur annually worldwide. A novel phenolic compound, cultratin A (1), was isolated as a leishmanicidal constituent from the timber of Dalbergia cultrata, along with three known neoflavanoids (2, 3, 4), two benzofurans (5, 6), and two phenolic compounds (7, 8). Their structures were determined using spectral methods. Among them, a new compound (1) and 4-(S)-methoxydalbergione (2) showed effective leishmanicidal activities (IC50: 2.0 and 2.6 μM, respectively), while compound 8 showed moderate

The vulnerable plant Dalbergia tonkinensis Prain is a rare species in Vietnam. In the course of our studies on biologically active plants, we performed serine protease enzyme screenings. The results suggest that at concentrations of 25-250 ng/mL, methanol extracts of leaf and root, root ethanol extract and its dichloromethane fraction, and heartwood water decoction extract can serve as useful sources to stimulate trypsin enzyme activity. In addition, water decoction extracts of leaf and stem bark may explain unknown ethno-pharmacology due to the high inhibitory effects in enzyme assays using t

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) lacks effective and well-tolerated pharmacological options for long-term management, highlighting the need for multi-target natural agents. In this study, we hypothesized that a flavonoid-rich extract from Dalbergia odorifera exerts (DOE) anti-cSCC effects by regulating apoptosis-related pathways. To test this hypothesis, we employed an integrated strategy combining UPLC-based chemical profiling, network pharmacology prediction, and in vitro and in vivo validation. UPLC analysis identified five major flavonoids in DOE-Luteolin, Naringenin, Butein, Liqui

Three novel flavonoid derivatives, named dalberavonoids A-C (1-3), were isolated from the roots of Dalbergia odorifera T. C. Chen. The structures of these flavonoid derivatives were determined by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses. Compounds 1 and 2 represent rare examples of isopentenyl-substituted flavanes from the genus Dalbergia. Compound 3 is a rare flavonoid containing 16 carbon atoms on the carbon skeleton. The inhibitory activities of dalberavonoids A-C against the nitric oxide (NO) production induced by lipopolysaccharide in mouse macrophage RAW 264.7 cells in vitro were evaluated.

RATIONALE: The genus Dalbergia includes approximately 250 species worldwide. Of these, 58 species are of economic importance and listed under CITES. Identification of illegal transnational timber trade is a challenge because logs or boards lack the typical descriptors used for species identification such as leaves and flowers; therefore, frequently the lowest taxonomic determination of these tree byproducts is genus. In this study, we explore the use of Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART) Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (TOFMS) in making species determinations of protected Dalbergia trees fro

Investigation of the essential oil from the heartwood of Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen afforded the sesquiterpenes 1 and 2, that both showed anti-platelet activity. Their backbones were totally the same only with subtle difference in the chiral centre. Additionally, antithrombotic and anti-platelet activities of these two compounds were measured. The results showed that the antithrombotic activity of these two compounds was poor, while their anti-platelet activity was strong at middle and high concentrations.

Lysenin is a pore-forming toxin derived from coelomic fluid of the earthworm Eisenia foetida. The model of lysenin-induced hemolysis includes the specific binding of lysenin to sphingomyelin, oligomerization of the pore proteins, and pore formation. Although the mechanism of lysenin-induced hemolysis is unique, its precise mechanism of action and its inhibitors are poorly understood. In the present study, we screened for inhibitors of lysenin-induced hemolysis by using an optimized screening system and found a methanolic extract of Dalbergia latifolia leaves to be a potential candidate. After

A phytochemical investigation of the twigs and stems of Dalbergia cultrata yielded fourteen secondary metabolites, including three novel compounds: two neoflavonoids and a megastigmane glycoside. Structures were elucidated using spectroscopic methods and ECD calculations. Biological evaluation showed weak to moderate antibacterial and antioxidant activities, whereas aromatase inhibition was more pronounced. Two coumarins, dalbergin (11) and stevenin (12), were the most potent inhibitors, with IC₅₀ values of 1.23 and 1.61 µM, respectively. In contrast, the selected neoflavonoids showed only mod

This study evaluated the anthelmintic activity of a hydroalcoholic extract (HA-E) from Dalbergia palo-escrito aerial parts against Haemonchus contortus using a bioguided approach. The egg hatching inhibition (EHI) assay was conducted to determine activity. The HA-E was partitioned into an aqueous fraction (Aq-F) and an ethyl acetate fraction (EtOAc-F). The EtOAc-F was fractioned by column chromatography into seven subfractions (PeF1 to PeF7). HA-E and EtOAc-F achieved 100% EHI at 50 and 1.0 mg/mL, respectively. Subfractions PeF1, PeF3, and PeF4a exhibited strong activity, with EC90 values of 0

Many species of Dalbergia are prized hardwoods, generally referred to as 'Rosewood,' and used in high-end products due to their distinctive hue and scent. Despite more than 58 species of Dalbergia being listed as endangered in Appendix 1 of The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES), the illegal logging and trade of this timber is ongoing. In this work, a handheld laser induced breakdown spectrometer (LIBS) was used to analyze seven Dalbergia species and two other exotic hardwood species to evaluate the ability of handheld LIBS for rapid classificati
