This article describes a method of integrating digital dental casts into cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans in virtual implant planning in situations with an excessive number of metal artifacts. This technique requires the use of a prefabricated registration tray to provide a common landmark; is noninvasive, minimally time-consuming, and cost-effective; and requires only a single registration and minimal exposure to radiation.

BACKGROUND: The current study examined the accuracy of casts generated using direct impression processes with and without splints for multiple dental implants utilizing two different splinting materials and impression materials.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Dental replacement base intensity alleviating acrylic tar was used to create a reference model of a mandible with four inserts (Uniti, Equinox, D-3.7 mm, and L-13 mm) in the front. Polyether and polyvinyle siloxane impression materials were used to make impressions of the reference model utilizing direct non-splinted and splinted techniques.

Non-noble alloys are available for use in the fabrication of cast restorations. These alloys are not necessarily designed for subsequent application of porcelain. Because they are promoted for use in place of the traditional gold alloys, significant changes in technique and armamentarium are necessary. Casting of acceptable clinical quality can be obtained, but not without additional equipment and personnel training. Obtaining casting of gold alloy quality on a routine basis may not be easily achieved. Casting into detail is possible (see Fig. 5), although greater surface roughness of the cast

An unconventional technique was used to address the challenge of exposed dental implant threads. Titanium dental implants were prepared with rotary instruments to eliminate the exposed threads and to receive a fixed cementable prosthesis. The technique required fabrication of a gold casting of 2 copings connected by a round bar to fit the prepared implants and an implant-retained overdenture. This technique may be applied to other situations when multiple implants present with thread exposure and bone resorption. These include single crowns, partial fixed dental prostheses, and attachments for

The pure titanium cast frameworks were made using an arc-melting pressure and vacuum casting apparatus invented by Sato, and an experimental investment material. The salient features of the method and the cast frameworks were as follows: 1. The casting apparatus used was capable of making both complete and partial denture frameworks with pure titanium. It reduced casting errors and the interaction between titanium and the casting mold, producing less porous casted frameworks with a smooth surface. 2. The experimental investment material made a firm heat-resistant investment model with a smooth

Nitrides used in this experiment are hBN, A1N and Si3N4. We studied feasibility of nitrides as wax pattern coating materials for Co-Cr alloy in an atmosphere of argon. Wax patterns were painted with coating material of nitrides (first investing), then a mixture of phosphate bonded investment and water was used in outer investing (second investing). The temperature of mold was 800 degrees C, and an argon arc vacuum-pressure casting machine was used. We cast the thin specimens in Co-Cr alloy (composition Co: 63 wt%, Cr: 27 wt%, Mo: 5 wt%, Bal.: 5 wt%; melting point: 1,380 degrees C). Surfaces of

Breakage of a dental cast during its removal from the impression may result in inaccuracies in the finished appliance. The origin and prevention of the factors that can lead to cast breakage are found in the diagnostic phase. Casts of isolated teeth that are long, have marked gingival recession, and have a narrow clinical neck are prone to fracture. If casts of these types of teeth cannot be avoided, measures can be taken to prevent fracture. Wax can be used to thicken teeth with narrow clinical necks or to block out interproximal spaces in adjacent teeth without proximal contacts. The materia

Using materials-scientific test methods, the author studied the effect of vacuum mixing and vibration on the setting and the thermal expansion and contraction behaviour of the investment compound "LAW-Modellgusseinbettmasse" as well as on its hardness and structure after setting. The results obtained show that vacuum processing may considerably improve the properties which are of importance in model casting.

A digital process is presented for an implant-supported single-tooth and a 3-unit fixed dental prosthesis (FDP) with customized abutments and monolithic prosthetic zirconia restorations. The digital impression on the implant level was made with a TRIOS intraoral scanner (3Shape). This process included the fabrication of an implant cast with the fused deposition modeling technique and a 3-dimensional printing process with integrated implant analogs. The process enabled the FDPs to be designed with CAD/CAM on the cast before patient contact. Designing a printed implant cast expands the use of th

This technical note introduces a technique for remounting dental casts to a mechanical articulator using computed tomography (CT) without a facebow. We have developed a jig method that ensures precise remounting by aligning the virtual dental casts to the upper and lower jaw models reconstructed from the CT and transferring them to a virtual articulator based on anatomical landmarks. A custom-designed positioning jig and splint further enhance the accuracy of the process, preserving the spatial relationship between the midface and mandible. The proposed mounting jig technique can help transfer

BACKGROUND: This study aims to clarify whether 3Shape™ digital model system could be applied in orthodontic diagnostic analysis with certainty, especially under different crowding condition. Reliability, accuracy and efficiency of 3Shape™ digital model system were assessed by comparing them with traditional plaster cast.
METHODS: 29 plaster casts with permanent dentition were transformed into digital models by 3Shape™ D800 scanner. All 29 models were categorized into mild-crowding (arch length discrepancy <3 mm), moderate-crowding (arch length discrepancy >3 mm and <8 mm), and severe-crowding

Since dental casting requires replication of complex shapes with great accuracy, this study examined how well some commercial titanium alloys and experimental titanium-copper alloys filled a mold cavity. The metals examined were three types of commercial dental titanium [commercially pure titanium (hereinafter noted as CP-Ti), Ti-6Al-4V (T64) and Ti-6Al-7Nb (T67)], and experimental titanium-copper alloys [3%, 5% and 10% Cu (mass %)]. The volume percentage filling the cavity was evaluated in castings prepared in a very thin perforated sheet pattern and cast in a centrifugal casting machine. The

Electrochemically etched nonprecious metal castings have been bonded to etched enamel for use in mouth preparation procedures for removable partial denture placement. The castings have been in service and subject to loading by the dentures for 26 to 42 months. To date, bond strengths have been sufficient to support function of both castings and removable partial dentures clinically. None of the castings has failed in its bond. Evidence that the technique may be a valuable adjunct is building in the field of prosthodontics. Use may be far reaching as dentists apply the concept to a wide variety

The fabrication of a survey crown under an existing partial removable dental prosthesis (PRDP) has always been a challenge to many dental practitioners. This clinical report presents a technique for fabricating accurate cast gold survey crowns to fit existing PRDPs using CAD/CAM technology. The report describes a technique that would digitally scan the coronal anatomy of a cast gold survey crown and an abutment tooth under existing PRDPs planned for restoration, prior to any preparation. The information is stored in the digital software where all the coronal anatomical details are preserved wi

Patients with aberrant occlusal patterns, including constricted mastication patterns or occlusal dysfunction, may require occlusal equilibration. Conventional diagnostic procedures involve diagnostic stone casts mounted in the articulator. During diagnostic procedures, occlusal equilibration methods are simulated on mounted stone casts to analyze the amount of dental structure that may need to be removed. A technique to virtually simulate an occlusal equilibration procedure is described. Digital data acquisition procedures include diagnostic casts acquired using an intraoral scanner and the re

The effect of die spacing and precementation internal adjustments on the compressive strength of a new ceramic foil crown system was examined in vitro. Twenty-four ceramic foil crowns were made for identical stylized master dies made of polycarbonate filled with 30 wt% carbon. One half of the stone working dies were coated with die spacer and the remaining were left untreated. A special foil used for these crowns was adapted to the working dies under 2500 psi loading. A sculpturing device was used to standardize the size and shape of the ceramic foil crowns. Only crowns made on dies coated wit
