Perceptions of medical faculty on an e-learning module providing faculty development.

INTRODUCTION: Although medical educators participate in faculty development, they do not always find this education time well spent, or helpful for improving their practice. This mixed-methods randomized comparative study aimed to compare perceptions of two faculty development modalities by comparing a traditional method of learning (text-based PDF with information) with an online learning method (e-learning module). METHODS: In December of 2021, an instructionally designed e-learning module (experimental) and a text-only PDF with the same information (control) were randomly assigned to 48 fa

Synthesising Generative Artificial Intelligence Competency Domains for Medical Education Faculty.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI (GenAI), is reshaping clinical care and medical education, requiring medical education faculty to develop new competencies. As GenAI becomes integrated into clinical and teaching workflows, faculty must guide learners in AI-enabled environments. Although existing frameworks outline AI competencies for clinicians or learners, few synthesise competencies specifically for faculty roles. This review addresses that gap by synthesising AI and GenAI competency frameworks to identify GenAI domains relevant to medical education faculty.

100 Years since Robert Barany's visit to the Zaragoza medical faculty.

In December 1923, a twelve-day course took place at the University of Zaragoza, specifically at the Faculty of Medicine, given by Professor Róbert Bárány, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1914 for his discoveries on the vestibular apparatus. Professor Robert Bárány came to the faculty at the invitation of Professor Victor Fairén through the University Exchange programme. This course consisted of four lectures and twelve lessons a day in which he presented his knowledge of the physiopathology of the vestibule and cerebellum, as well as practical demonstrations of the physical exa

Drugs on a medical campus. II. Drug use among faculty members.

One hundred out of a total of 207 members of the faculty of Medical College, Patiala, selected by a process of random sampling were covered in the present survey. They were divided into two groups--the senior consultants and the junior doctors. The lifetime prevalence rate for drug use was 78.9 per cent, and the commonest drugs used were alcohol and tranquilizers, followed by sedatives, stimulants, tobacco and cannabis. However, current use as shown by the 30-day prevalence rate showed that only three drugs--alcohol, tobacco and tranquilizers--are commonly used. More of the senior doctors were

Student abuse in medical school: a comparison of students' and faculty's perceptions.

A perceived abuse or mistreatment has been identified in the United States as a major source of stress for undergraduate medical students. The objective of this paper is to explore whether medical students in Israel have similar complaints, and if so, whether medical faculty members are aware of students' perceptions of mistreatment. Third and fifth year medical students of the 6 year undergraduate program of the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School were asked to respond to a self-administered questionnaire similar to those used in previous studies in the USA. An additional questionnaire

INTRODUCTION: Limited research describes generative artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models, such as ChatGPT, to support the design of health care simulation-based manikin scenarios (SBMS). This pilot study describes the design process and quality assessment of SBMS designed by medical students with ChatGPT generative AI support (AIG scenarios) compared to those designed by medical student interest groups (MSIG) with faculty guidance (MSIG scenarios). METHODS: Based on this medical school simulation center's scenario design template, we compared the time to completion of the sc

Effects of Department Type and Disability Status on Medical School Faculty Wellbeing.

PURPOSE: Faculty wellbeing impacts student learning and is a priority among medical schools, especially as a counterbalance to growing burnout. Previous researchers found differences in burnout by sex and race among clinicians, but not for faculty with disabilities. Accordingly, the purpose was to test the association between faculty's wellbeing, burnout, and control over workload and investigate differences in wellbeing attributed to department type and ability status. METHOD: The authors developed and administered a comprehensive wellbeing survey to University of Minnesota Medical School fa

Fostering Student-Faculty Partnerships for Continuous Curricular Improvement in Undergraduate Medical Education.

PROBLEM: A number of medical schools have used curricular reform as an opportunity to formalize student involvement in medical education, but there are few published assessments of these programs. Formal evaluation of a program's acceptability and use is essential for determining its potential for sustainability and generalizability. APPROACH: Harvard Medical School's Education Representatives (Ed Reps) program was created in 2015 to launch alongside a new curriculum. The program aimed to foster partnerships between faculty and students for continuous and real-time curricular improvement. Ed

Engaging medical and dental students in curriculum committees: Faculty insights and expectations.

OBJECTIVE: To explore faculty insights about the undergraduate medical students' participation in the curriculum committees. METHODOLOGY: An exploratory approach to qualitative study design was adopted. Four focus group discussions were conducted in two medical and two dental colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, based on a piloted and validated guide, over a period of six months July 2021-January 2022. The audio recordings were transcribed verbatim. Anonymity was ensured, and thematic analysis of the transcripts was undertaken using the investigator triangulation. RESULTS: Two hundred and seven n
