42 patients with hand Dupuytren's contracture were operated. Transection of each finger scar cords was performed in transverse direction through 3-8 skin punctures from proximal portion to distal segment in the zone of middle phalanx base. In addition, complete finger extension was achieved on operating table. There were no recurrences in follow-up of 13 years.

Major trauma to the upper extremity may lead to ischemic contracture of various muscle groups, sometimes including the intrinsic muscles of the hand. The clinical consequence of such necrotic fibrosis of the intrinsics is clawing of the digits with marked stiffness. After a short anatomical review of the fascias of the intrinsics, indications and operative techniques are discussed, in parallel with clinical cases. Intrinsic fasciotomy thus appears to be a major step in the prevention of digital clawing, when associated with early physiotherapy.

Over a 9-year period, fasciotomy for presumed compartmental syndromes after trauma was performed in 25 upper extremities and 100 lower extremities in 122 patients. This procedure was most commonly indicated after vascular injuries in the lower extremities. Twenty percent of patients underwent fasciotomy before vascular repair. Nineteen percent of patients with vascular injuries in the lower extremities had fasciotomies performed at reoperation. Seventy-five percent of amputations in the lower extremities were related to a delay in performing fasciotomy or an incomplete fasciotomy. Upper-extrem

This paper summarises the results obtained in 95 patients treated by fasciotomy, defines the indications for this procedure and describes the operative technique. During a period of seven years a total of 95 patients with 137 fingers affected by Dupuytren's Contracture have been treated by fasciotomy. The minimum follow-up is two years. The oldest patient was 79 years and no patient younger that 50 years was accepted for this form of treatment.

Needle aponeurotomy (percutaneous needle fasciotomy) for Dupuytren's contracture can be performed in the office setting with local anesthesia. It is simple and inexpensive and has a low complication rate and rapid recovery compared with open fasciectomy. It can usually be repeated safely and effectively for recurrent disease.

The role of percutanous needle fasciotomy (PNF) in Dupuytren's disease is still discussed. Technique and own experience are shown. Due to our own experience and a brief review of the literature we recommend percutanous needle fasciotomy for patients who can't get surgery because of restricted general conditions. Furthermore the PNF is also useful in younger patients with a well defined visible and palpable cord which is responsible for flexion contracture of MP joint to avoid or delay the operation.

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous needle fasciotomy (PNF) is a minimally invasive treatment option for mild to moderate Dupuytren contractures in the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) and proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints, and the procedure requires limited resources. Multiple contractures can be treated during the same session, and the treatment is considerably easier for the patient and requires a minimum of rehabilitation compared with limited fasciectomy1.
DESCRIPTION: PNF can be performed in a regular outpatient clinic in most cases. With the patient in a reclined position, the cord of the contracted

The aim of this study was to examine our results of 74 percutaneous needle fasciotomies for Dupuytren's contracture. Pre-operative and postoperative total passive extension deficit was measured. Patients were seen at the outpatient clinic at 32 months for final follow-up. Extension deficit and sensibility were measured and flexor tendon function assessed. Recurrence, defined as an increase of the passive extension deficit of 30 degrees or more compared to the immediate postoperative measurement, and other complications were also noted. Immediate outcome was excellent with an average improvemen

INTRODUCTION: Failure to perform adequate fasciotomy for a presumed or diagnosed compartment syndrome after revascularization of an acutely ischemic limb is a potential cause of preventable limb loss. When required, outcomes are best when fasciotomy is conducted with the initial vascular repair. Despite over 100 years of experience with fasciotomy, the actual indications for its performance among acute care and trauma surgeons performing vascular repairs are unclear. The hypothesis of this study was that there are many principles of fasciotomy that are uniformly accepted by surgeons and that c

BACKGROUND: Local symptoms and signs of snake envenomation mimic the clinical features of compartment syndrome. It is important to measure the intracompartmental pressure to diagnose compartment syndrome. In this study, we present our experiences of confirming compartment syndrome and performing fasciotomy in snakebite patients based on high intracompartmental pressure findings.
METHODS: The medical records of patients who visited the trauma center of Wonju Severance Christian Hospital from January 2010 to December 2015 for the management of venomous snakebite were retrospectively reviewed. S

BACKGROUND: The majority of cases of plantar fasciitis can be treated nonoperatively; however, a small number of patients remain refractory to nonoperative treatment and operative intervention is indicated. Historically, open treatment has been recommended, but more recently endoscopic plantar fasciotomy (EPF) has produced promising results.
METHODS: Forty-eight patients (56 feet) were identified who underwent endoscopic plantar fasciotomy. Forty-one patients (49 feet) were available for followup. There were 15 men and 26 women, with an average age of 53.8 (range, 42 to 68) years. The mean fo

A retrospective study of patients admitted to an Orthopaedic Trauma Unit over an 8-year period requiring fasciotomies, of either upper or lower limb, to reduce the risk of compartment syndrome was performed. Sixty patients were studied, of which 49 had an underlying fracture. The long-term morbidity of the wounds was studied. Ongoing symptoms such as pain related to the wound occurred in six patients (10%) and altered sensation within the margins of the wound occurred in 46 patients (77%). Examination revealed 24 patients (40%) with dry scaly skin, 20 patients (33%) with pruritus, 18 patients

Seventy-three dermotomy-fasciotomies (DFs) were performed in 68 patients from 1986 to 1991. A database record was compiled on each patient. Variables included age, mode of injury, method of initial wound closure, and associated injuries. A multivariate stepwise logistic regression analysis was performed to determine which variables were associated with wound complications. Thirty-eight percent of patients who underwent DF developed wound complications. One hundred percent of those patients with postoperative arterial or graft thrombosis developed wound complications (p less than 0.01) as did 7

A 29 year old man presented with heroin overdose and rhabdomyolysis necessitating fasciotomy of the left leg muscle compartments. Early recognition of the syndrome of heroine-induced rhabdomyolysis and compartment syndrome is essential to prevent long-term orthopaedic complications.

Percutaneous fasciotomy is a safe, simple, and inexpensive treatment for mild to moderate Dupuytren contracture. The decrease in extension deficit in the metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints after release correlates with improvement in patient-reported outcomes. Complications are rare and primarily include skin tears, which occur in approximately 4% of patients. Most patients are satisfied with the outcomes of the procedure at 1 year.

PURPOSE: Increasing options to treat Dupuytren disease include percutaneous needle fasciotomy (PNF), a minimally invasive technique that has proven to be effective for the treatment of primary disease. However, its effect on recurrent disease is not clear.
METHODS: We studied 30 patients with recurrent Dupuytren disease in 40 fingers, with a mean follow-up of 4.4 years. Primary outcome measures were total passive extension deficit reduction and interval to a second recurrence, defined as an increase of more than 30° compared with the result at the end of the previous treatment. We noted compl

OBJECTIVE: Deep thigh veins, including the superficial femoral, superficial femoropopliteal, and profunda femoris veins, are versatile autogenous conduits for arterial reconstruction. Although late venous complications are unusual, deep vein harvest may induce severe venous hypertension and predispose the limb to acute compartment syndrome. The purpose of this study was to define the frequency of fasciotomy in patients undergoing deep vein harvest and to identify clinical predictors of the need for fasciotomy after deep vein harvest.
METHODS: Over 9 years, 162 patients underwent arterial reco
