Improving bleeding disorder treatment log adherence: An application of the information-motivation-behavioral skills model.

INTRODUCTION: For people with severe bleeding disorders (PwBD) who are prescribed home treatment, treatment logs are an important part of the management of their care. Treatment logs provide a clinical picture of the home treatment regimen and can serve as a communication tool between the medical team and the person with a bleeding disorder. Most importantly, treatment logs allow for the adjustment of the treatment dose and frequency to prevent bleeding episodes. Yet, a large number of PwBD do not complete treatment logs. AIMS: We aimed to develop and implement interventions to increase adher

A Cognitive Study of Dietary Imbalance Behaviors in Chinese Multigenerational Households Based on the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills Model.

Background/Objectives: Family dietary imbalance is an important source of the double burden of malnutrition, and dietary arrangements in multigenerational households are often deeply embedded in intergenerational caregiving relationships. However, the cognitive formation mechanism through which dietary caregiving behaviors driven by care and responsibility may instead lead to dietary imbalance still lacks systematic explanation. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the cognitive formation mechanism of dietary imbalance behaviors in Chinese multigenerational households. Methods: This study ta

Socioeconomic differences in help-seeking intention for stress urinary incontinence: evidence from an information-motivation-behavioral skills model framework.

BACKGROUND: Stress urinary incontinence is common among older women and can substantially affect quality of life, yet medical help-seeking remains low. While socioeconomic disparities have been associated with variations in health behavior, the underlying psychosocial pathways through which these disparities manifest are not well understood. This study aimed to identify psychosocial factors that influence intention to seek care for urinary incontinence and to assess whether they explain the association between socioeconomic status and help-seeking intention. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey

Intimate partner violence and condom use among women: does the information-motivation-behavioral skills model explain sexual risk behavior?

Intimate partner violence (IPV) undermines women's ability to enact safer sex and increases their vulnerability to HIV and other STDs. To better understand the relationship between IPV and sexual risk behavior, we investigated whether the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) model differentially predicted risk behavior among women who had and had not recently experienced IPV. Data from 717 women who were recruited from a public health clinic showed that 18% reported IPV by a sexual partner in the past 3 months, 28% in the past year, and 57% lifetime. Women who experienced IPV in the

Exploring the smoking cessation needs of individuals with diabetes using the Information-Motivation-Behavior Skills model.

INTRODUCTION: Smoking cessation is an important aspect of diabetes management. Despite the increased risk for diabetes complications when smoking, evidence suggests that people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are less likely to quit smoking when compared to those without diabetes. Guided by the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills model, this study aimed to identify the needs of individuals living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes to quit smoking. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive design was adopted. Semi-structured telephone interviews were held between April and June 2021, with 20

Predicting antiretroviral medication adherence among substance-using people with HIV: test and extension of the information-motivation-behavioral skills model.

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is effective in reducing HIV transmission and mortality, yet daily adherence remains a challenge for many people with HIV (PWH). Suboptimal adherence can lead to virological failure and increased mortality, particularly among those with substance use disorders, such as cocaine use disorder (CUD). The Information-Motivation-Behavioral (IMB) skills model offers a framework to understand and enhance ART adherence by addressing individual and social barriers. In this study, we tested the IMB skills model among 80 cocaine-using PWH currently on ART, and found that behav

Caregivers' experience of dental care for infants and young children: a qualitative study based on an information-motivation-behavioral skills model.

BACKGROUND: Dental caries is the most common chronic childhood disease. The prevalence of dental caries among 3-year-old infants and young children in China was as high as 50.8%. Caregivers played a crucial role in the dental care of infants and young children, as they could prevent dental problems in infants by adopting appropriate family dental care behavior. This study employed the Information-Motivation-Behavioral skills (IMB) model to explore the experiences of caregivers of Chinese infants and young children during the dental care process, which may inform and enhance future dental care

Preparing for highly active antiretroviral therapy rollout in rural South Africa: an assessment using the information, motivation, and behavioral skills model.

Following a controversial history and before South Africa started the world's largest highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) rollout, little was known about community-level information, motivation, and behavioral skills (IMB) regarding HAART in high-HIV-prevalence rural communities. The IMB model has been shown to predict behaviors that are associated with desirable HAART outcomes. We conducted an anonymous, cross-sectional "HAART-Felt Prospects" survey among HIV-serostatus-unknown young adults in Tugela Ferry, KwaZulu-Natal. We aimed to identify behavioral aspects of HAART preparedness

Evaluating the Relationship-Oriented Information, Motivation, and Behavioral Skills Model of HIV Preventive Behaviors in Young Men Who Have Sex With Men.

Most HIV infections among young men who have sex with men (YMSM) occur within primary partnerships. Research on YMSM's knowledge, motivation, and behavioral skills regarding relationship-related HIV prevention, and how these correspond to HIV risk and partnership characteristics, is limited. We examined links among the Relationship-Oriented Information- Motivation-Behavioral Skills (RELO-IMB) model, relationship characteristics, and HIV risk in 96 YMSM. Condomless sex with a primary partner was associated with low relationship-related HIV preventive information, motivation, and behavioral skil
