Development of karanja oil based offset printing ink in comparison with linseed oil.

The conventional offset lithographic printing ink is mainly based on linseed oil. But in recent years, due to stiff competition from synthetic substitutes mainly from petroleum products, the crop production shrinks down to an unsustainable level, which increases the price of linseed oil. Though soyabean oil has replaced a major portion of linseed oil, it is also necessary to develop alternate cost effective vegetable oils for printing ink industry. The present study aims to evaluate the performance of karanja oil (Pongamia glabra) as an alternative of linseed oil in the formulation of offset p

High temperature interactions of lead palmitate with linseed oil.

This study investigates the high-temperature interactions between lead palmitate (Pb(C16)2) and linseed oil, revealing complex phase transformations and structural changes critical for understanding metal soap formation in oil paintings. Through complementary analytical techniques including DSC, XRPD, FTIR, and solid-state NMR, we identified two significant phenomena: the formation of mixed lead palmitate-stearate compounds and the emergence of a high-temperature lead palmitate polymorph. When heated to 112 °C, lead palmitate in linseed oil undergoes partial conversion to mixed lead palmitate-

Linseed oil based nanocapsules as delivery system for hydrophobic quantum dots.

In the present work, the CdSe/ZnS hydrophobic quantum dots were embedded within the polyelectrolyte nanocapsules. The core of the capsules, which consists of a mixture of the linseed oil with chloroform, was prepared using the spontaneous emulsification technique. The obtained emulsions were stabilized with lecithin and encapsulated using the layer-by-layer (LbL) adsorption of polyelectrolytes. The pair of biocompatible polyelectrolytes was used: the cationic poly-l-lysine hydrobromide (PLL) together with the anionic poly-d-glutamic acid sodium salt. The saturation LbL method, which is based o

Oral Intake of Linseed Oil Inhibits Skin Barrier Dysfunction in Obese Mice.

OBJECTIVE: Obesity is not only a risk factor for lifestyle-related diseases but also causes skin barrier dysfunction, which leads to a reduced quality of life due to dryness, itching, and scratching, and thus requires appropriate treatment. However, there are no studies on this issue. Therefore, this study aimed to examine whether oral intake of linseed oil is effective for skin barrier function in obesity and to confirm how the effect is demonstrated. METHODS: TSOD mice received either sterile distilled water (Control group) or linseed oil (Omega group), containing a high level of omega-3 fa

Copper Soaps Formation in Verdigris-Linseed Oil Painting Mixtures: A Multispectroscopic Characterization.

Copper acetate (also known as verdigris) is a bimetallic Cu(II) greenish pigment widely used in oil paintings. Since ancient times, this pigment has been known as a degradation-prone compound, especially when combined with lipidic binders. However, the degradation mechanism and the involved species have not yet been disclosed. In this article, we study verdigris interactions with linseed oil in painting mock-ups, stressing out the formation of copper-based complexes and proposing reaction routes. Such complex systems are studied by applying a complementary multispectroscopic approach: a combin

Metabolomics and Proteomics Characterizing Hepatic Reactions to Dietary Linseed Oil in Duck.

The imbalance in polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) composition in human food is ubiquitous and closely related to obesity and cardiovascular diseases. The development of n-3 PUFA-enriched poultry products is of great significance for optimizing fatty acid composition. This study aimed to improve our understanding of the effects of dietary linseed oil on hepatic metabolism using untargeted metabolomics and 4D label-free proteome analysis. A total of 91 metabolites and 63 proteins showed differences in abundance in duck livers between the high linseed oil and control groups. Pathway analysis rev

Rapid Estimation of Tocopherol Content in Linseed and Sunflower Oils-Reactivity and Assay.

The reactivity of tocopherols with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was studied in model systems in order to establish a method for quantifying vitamin E in plant oils. The method was optimized with respect to solvent composition of the assay medium, which has a large influence on the course of reaction of tocopherols with DPPH. The rate of reaction of α-tocopherol with DPPH is higher than that of γ-tocopherol in both protic and aprotic solvents. In ethyl acetate, routinely applied for the analysis of antioxidant potential (AOP) of plant oils, reactions of tocopherols with DPPH are slower

Anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities of Linum usitatissimum L. (flaxseed/linseed) fixed oil.

The fixed oil of L. usitatissimum (flaxseed/linseed) inhibited PGE2-, leukotriene-, histamine- and bradykinin-induced inflammation. The oil also inhibited arachidonic acid-induced inflammation, suggesting its capacity to inhibit both cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways of arachidonate metabolism. In tail immersion model, the oil raised the pain threshold to a lesser extent than morphine but showed excellent peripherally acting, analgesic activity comparable to aspirin, against acetic acid-induced writhing in mouse. In typhoid paratyphoid A/B vaccine-induced pyrexia, the oil showed antipyr

The Drop-in-Drop Encapsulation in Chitosan and Sodium Alginate as a Method of Prolonging the Quality of Linseed Oil.

Nowadays, the encapsulation of sensitive products by various techniques has become popular as a promising preservation method. In particular, this applies to oils with a high content of unsaturated fatty acids and a high susceptibility to deterioration. This work presents the possibility of using a chitosan and sodium alginate in the form of a hydrogel membrane to protect food ingredients such as linseed oil, which is stored in an aquatic environment. The obtained results showed the high efficiency of the coaxial method encapsulation, which did not affect the quality of the oil measured after

Supplementation with dietary linseed oil during peri-puberty stimulates steroidogenesis and testis development in rams.

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFAs), such as α-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid, are involved in male reproductive function. In this study, we investigated the effects of linseed oil (LO) as a source of ALA on the steroidogenesis and changes of testicular histology in rams. Sixteen 3-month old rams during peri-puberty were randomly assigned into two groups. Eight rams were assigned as the control group, and the other received LO (4% dry matter of total diet) as the LO treatment group. After an 81-day feeding trial, the rams were slaughtered and
