A 64-year-old man was referred to our dermatology clinic with a diagnosis of Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS), he had a history of multiple sebaceous carcinomas and sebaceous adenomas removed over the years. The patient has also had visceral cancer and had undergone a colon resection 17 years before to treat colon cancer and was recently diagnosed with invasive high-grade urothelial carcinoma of the right ureter. In addition, the patient has an extensive family history of cancer; a pedigree was constructed to document this history (Figure 1). Of note is that the patient's mother and father were secon

The Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) is a rare, autosomal-dominant inherited disease characterized by sebaceous gland tumors and at least one internal malignancy. In many cases a genetic defect known as microsatellite instability can be identified. Similar pathogenetic mechanisms are found in patients with the hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer syndrome, so that at least some patients with MTS are considered as having a phenotypic variant of that syndrome. A 66-year-old woman with MTS, developed multiple malignant cutaneous and visceral tumors over 32 years; in addition, she had multiple sebaceous

Muir-Torre syndrome patients have multiple visceral malignancies along with cutaneous sebaceous tumors and keratoacanthomas. We describe a history of a 64-year-old male patient with 13 tumours, who survived 13 years. The initial ascending colon adenocarcinoma was followed by some different tumors of the skin: adenoma and carcinoma of sebaceous glands, epidermoid and basaloid carcinoma and other benign tumors. The last time developed rectal adenocarcinoma was operated.

The Muir-Torre syndrome is an autosomal dominantly inherited genodermatosis with malignant potential that is characterized by the presence of at least one sebaceous gland tumor (adenoma, epithelioma, or carcinoma) and a minimum of one internal malignancy. The syndrome has been documented in 147 individuals. Associated features in some of the Muir-Torre syndrome patients are colorectal carcinomas and genitourinary neoplasms. More than half of the 292 visceral cancers described in Muir-Torre syndrome patients were colorectal carcinomas; nearly 60% of these tumors were located at or proximal to t

INTRODUCTION: Lynch syndrome (LS) is a syndrome that carries a genetic predisposition to certain cancers associating, either in a single individual or in a family, a visceral tumour, mainly colorectal, with a high risk of other synchronous or metachronous cancers. LS is linked with mutations in the genes coding for proteins in the DNA repair system. Phenotypic variants of SL exist, including Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) and Turcot syndrome (TS), both of which predispose to colorectal cancer. They may be distinguished by the presence of benign or malignant sebaceous tumours in MTS, and tumours of

Muir Torre Syndrome (MTS) is a rare syndrome complex of association of multiple sebaceous skin tumors with visceral malignancies. Till date a total of 205 cases have been reported in the world literature and to the best of our knowledge this is the first case report from the Indian subcontinent. Multiple, synchronous and metachronous, tiny sebaceous lesions is a hallmark of MTS along with multiple primary carcinomas at different sites, the commonest being gastro-intestinal tract cancers. The visceral cancers occur at a relatively young age. They are low-grade, non-aggressive and have a good pr

Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) is characterized by the presence of at least one sebaceous tumor and at least one visceral malignancy. Although a wide range of internal malignancies have been reported, the most frequently observed internal neoplasm is colorectal carcinoma. MTS and hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal carcinoma (HNPCC) share many clinical and pathological characteristics and thus may share similar genetic mechanisms of tumorigenesis. Recently, microsatellite instability (MIN) has been reported in tumor tissue from patients with HNPCC. In order to determine if tumors from MTS patients m

A 59-year-old Japanese woman presented with two sebaceous neoplasms on the chest wall and on the left cheek. The patient had a history of ascending colon cancer, and her mother had died of gastric cancer. The histopathologic features of both sebaceous neoplasms were vaguely in accordance with those of sebaceous adenoma and sebaceoma. Based on these findings, we diagnosed the patient as having Muir-Torre syndrome. The sebaceous neoplasm on the chest wall exhibited features of a sebaceous adenoma with a unique cystic appearance, namely cystic sebaceous adenoma, which has been reported as a speci

Muir-Torre Syndrome (MTS) is associated with multiple visceral malignancies. Initial presentation may be a benign skin tumor mimicking a sebaceous cyst. This case report highlights the importance of early diagnosis, genetic testing, and multidisciplinary screening. A 67-year-old man was diagnosed with MTS following excision of a skin lesion (sebaceoma). He was declined both screening colonoscopy and genetic testing. Subsequently, advanced colon cancer was found following presentation with iron deficiency anemia, which ultimately led to palliation despite successful surgery. MTS can present ins

Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) is an autosomaldominant skin condition of genetic origin, characterized by tumors of the sebaceous glands or keratoacanthomas that are associated with malignant visceral diseases. MTS associated with gynecologic malignancy has rarely been reported. Here we report a woman with no family history of colorectal cancer who developed endometrial carcinoma, stage 3a, at 49 years of age and at age 51 years, developed two skin tumors, a nasal squamous cell carcinoma and a sebaceous carcinoma of the right eyelid. The appearance pattern of these skin tumors suggested MTS. Althou

A 65-year-old man presented with a history of multiple skin coloured papules on his face that were asymptomatic. He had an adenocarcinoma resected from his proximal colon 12 years prior to presentation as well as a family history of colon cancer on the maternal side. Diagnostic biopsies showed the lesions to be sebaceous adenomas and epitheliomas and the diagnosis of Muir-Torre syndrome was made. The sebaceous tumour tissue showed microsatellite instability and immunohistochemical staining indicated diminished expression in the DNA mismatch-repair protein complex MSH2/MSH6. Genetic analysis sh

Muir-Torre syndrome(MTS)is a disease characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of sebaceous tumors and visceral malignant tumors. This syndrome is now considered to be a phenotypic variant of Lynch syndrome(LS). Our patient was a 58-year-old woman with a history of endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the uterine isthmus at the age of 40 years and left-sided triple negative breast cancer at the age of 44 years. At the age of 52 years, a multigene panel testing revealed a pathogenic variant in MSH2, and the patient was diagnosed with LS. During surveillance for LS in our department, a 2-mm sized i

CONTEXT: Muir-Torre syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis caused by mutations in the mismatch repair genes. It is characterized by the presence of sebaceous skin tumors and internal malignancies, affecting mainly the colon, rectum and urogenital tract. Awareness of this syndrome among physicians can lead to early diagnosis of these malignancies and a better prognosis.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a Chilean patient who, over the course of several years, had multiple skin lesions, endometrial cancer and colon cancer. The syndrome was diagnosed using molecular techniques suc

A young male patient was referred for endoscopic resection of a recto-sigmoid polyp and abdominal complaints. His medical history revealed a sebaceous adenoma resection from his back and a tubular adenoma excision from his right upper eyelid. After disclosure of a jejunal tumour on a small bowel enema and given the remarkable family history characterized by the frequent occurrence of bowel cancer, the diagnosis of Muir-Torre syndrome was established. This syndrome pertains to the combination of sebaceous gland tumours/adenomas in combination with gastrointestinal or genitourinary tract tumours

The association of multiple sebaceous neoplasms and visceral malignancies is known as the Muir-Torre syndrome. We describe a patient who had papillary transitional cell carcinoma of the right renal pelvis resected in 1981 and papillary transitional cell carcinoma of the left renal pelvis removed surgically in 1983. Recurrent transitional cell carcinoma necessitated further resection of tumor in the right renal pelvis in 1983, right nephrectomy and partial ureterectomy in 1984, and removal of the right ureteral stump in 1985. History included multiple seborrheic keratoses, a keratoacanthoma and

Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) is a rare, autosomal dominant condition that is within the spectrum of Lynch syndrome (hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC)). Sebaceous adenomas are among the most specific manifestations of MTS. Other malignancies include tumors of the colon, rectum, and genitourinary systems, such as endometrial, ovarian, urothelial, and prostate cancer. Individuals at risk for MTS are identified using the Mayo score, which assesses risk based on family history of Lynch syndrome-associated cancers, personal history of these cancers, and age at diagnosis of a sebaceous a
