Continuous cropping (CC) disrupts agriculture by causing soil degradation, yield decline, and microbial imbalances due to nutrient loss and pathogen buildup. However, the mechanisms underlying these impacts on Pogostemon cablin remain unclear. A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted during the rapid growth stage when CC-induced stress is most pronounced to address this gap. The ¹ ³C stable isotope labeling was employed to trace microbial shifts and decomposition of organic matter within the plant-soil-microbe interface. The results indicated that CC significantly alleviated plant growth and

Pogostemon stellatus remains underexplored despite the recognised pharmacological potential of other members of the genus. This study investigated the aerial parts to characterise their constituents and assess in vitro anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative activities. Bioactivity-guided fractionation of the n-hexane extract afforded two phenolic compounds. Compound 1, (E)‑1‑(2,4,6‑trimethoxyphenyl)but‑2‑en‑1‑one, and compound 2, (3 R)-3‑hydroxy‑1‑(2‑hydroxy‑4,6‑dimethoxyphenyl)butan‑1‑one, were both reported for the first time from this species. Compound 1 exhibited antiproliferative activit

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease associated with oxidative stress. Pogostemon oil (PO) exhibits potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities but is limited by high volatility and poor gastrointestinal stability. In this study, sporopollenin exine capsules (SECs) were engineered as natural micro-carriers for PO, achieving efficient encapsulation (η > 69%) and a high adsorption capacity (27.64 g/g). A pH-sensitive calcium alginate shell was subsequently applied to construct colon-targeted microspheres (Ca-Alg@PO-SECs). The resulting system improved the thermal and

The Candida albicans species is part of the human microbiota and is associated with different types of infections. It is the most commonly isolated yeast in samples of oral cavity infections. The number of infections attributed to the Candida genus has grown significantly on a global scale and due to the rigorous and improper use of current antimicrobials, antimicrobial resistance has also increased. Pogostemon cablin Benth., popularly known as patchouli, is a medicinal herb of great relevance, with several pharmacological properties reported in the literature. The aim of this study was to eva

This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of the aqueous extract of Pogostemon cablin and map the network of its main active ingredients, key targets, and signaling pathways. The chemical components of the extract were analyzed via ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q/TOF-MS), and its anti-inflammatory activity was verified using a zebrafish model. The target sites and signaling pathways of these chemical components were identified through bioinformatics analysis, while molecular interactions were simulated
