Positive psychology interventions during pregnancy: A systematic review.

Positive psychology interventions (PPI) have been applied and demonstrated evidence in various population groups. The present systematic review focused on the types and influence of PPI on the physical and psychological health of pregnant women. Studies that matched the selection criteria were identified on EBSCOhost, PsychINFO, Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus and four positive psychology journals. From the 2528 records identified, finally eight studies were included in the review. PPI in this review were delivered utilising various positive psychology components such as hope, gratitude and opt

Positive Psychology Interventions in Patients With Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in men and may often result in psychiatric symptoms due to the direct disease effects, hormonal treatments, functional losses, and psychological responses of patients to the cancer. Positive psychology interventions have shown promise in alleviating psychological symptoms in patients with chronic diseases but are infrequently studied in patients with prostate cancer. AIMS: Our systematic review aimed to examine the benefits of positive psychology interventions for patients with prostate cancer. METHODS AND RESULTS: We searched the Pub

Positive living with dialysis: The effect of a positive psychology intervention in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis.

Patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis often exhibit a low level of positive affect and poor mental health, which can adversely affect their physical health and well-being. This cluster-randomized controlled trial aimed to implement a 4-week PERMA-based positive psychology intervention tailored for patients undergoing hemodialysis and evaluate its efficacy on improving positive affect, negative affect, depressive symptoms, post-traumatic growth, and self-management. From September 2023 to January 2024, a total of 80 patients were recruited and randomly assigned to either the control grou

From positive psychology to psychopathology: the continuum of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

BACKGROUND: Integration of positive psychology into clinical research and treatment has been slow. This integration can be facilitated by the conceptualisation of mental disorders as the high, symptomatic extreme of continuous normal variation. This assumes that there is also a low, positive extreme, which is, however, unchartered territory. This study aims to examine how well current measures capture the low extreme of mental disorder continua, using attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as an example. METHODS: The ability of three validated scales to capture ADHD as a continuous t

Mapping the evidence base of positive psychology interventions: effectiveness, limitations, and future directions.

INTRODUCTION: Positive psychology interventions (PPIs) have emerged as a scientifically grounded body of practice aimed at fostering wellbeing, resilience, and optimal human functioning. Over the past two decades, the empirical literature has expanded substantially, yet critical gaps remain regarding intervention fidelity, population specificity, moderating variables, and long-term efficacy. This systematic review aims to map the evidence base of PPIs by synthesizing findings from meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and recent empirical studies; identifying effectiveness across

A Web-Based Positive Psychology App for Patients With Bipolar Disorder: Development Study.

BACKGROUND: Patients with bipolar disorder (BD) report lower quality of life and lower levels of well-being than the general population. Despite the growing availability of psychotherapeutic and self-management interventions, important unmet needs remain. These unmet needs are closely linked to positive psychology domains. Although a growing number of studies have evaluated the impact of positive psychology interventions (PPIs) on patients with severe mental illness in general, only few have addressed the application of positive psychology for BD. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to gain insight i

The effect of a positive psychology intervention on adolescents' depression, hope, and optimism.

Interventions based on positive psychology foster emotional well-being by increasing hope and optimism and mitigating issues such as depression and anxiety. However, these programs have primarily been implemented with adults, and few studies have demonstrated the efficacy of positive psychology approaches in enhancing hope and optimism and reducing depression among adolescents. Such programs for adolescents-particularly in developing countries such as Türkiye-remain largely understudied. This study examined the efficacy of a positive psychology intervention (PPI) in reducing depression and inc

Positive Psychology and Disaster Mental Health: Strategies for Working with Children and Adolescents.

Positive psychology concepts and principles can be incorporated into preparedness, crisis response, and recovery phases of disaster mental health efforts to address the needs of children, adolescents, and families. This article articulates general developmental considerations for applying positive psychology in disaster mental health contexts and discusses how 5 essential elements of immediate and midterm mass trauma intervention identified by Hobfoll et al. (2007) may be infused in applications of positive psychology for children and adolescents. Specific strategies for working with children,

Toward a positive psychology-informed framework for environmental law, human flourishing, and ecological citizenship.

Environmental law has traditionally been framed as a regulatory mechanism for ecological protection, yet its psychological and social dimensions remain underexplored. Drawing on the theoretical foundations of positive psychology, particularly Seligman's PERMA framework and the emerging literature on ecological wellbeing, this article proposes, as a theoretical framework rather than an established causal finding, that environmental law can function not merely as a constraint on harmful behaviour but as a structural enabler of human flourishing. We synthesise interdisciplinary evidence linking e

Meaningful experience, positive emotions, and happiness in smart hotel contexts: a study on psychological mechanisms based on positive psychology.

INTRODUCTION: Smart hotels are reshaping the landscape of consumers' accommodation experiences. Services such as self-check-in and smart locks are associated with changes in consumers' psychological perceptions of lodging life. However, previous studies have often overlooked consumers' sense of meaning, positive emotions, and subjective happiness. Based on positive psychology and service experience theory, this study explores the psychological mechanisms and associations connecting meaningful experiences with consumer happiness. METHODS: A quantitative research design was employed, analyzing

Delivering happiness: translating positive psychology intervention research for treating major and minor depressive disorders.

Despite the availability of many treatment options, depressive disorders remain a global public health problem. Even in affluent nations, 70% of reported cases either do not receive the recommended level of treatment or do not get treated at all, and this percentage does not reflect cases of depression that go unreported due to lack of access to health care, stigma, or other reasons. In developing countries, the World Health Organization estimates that <10% receive proper depression care due to poverty, stigma, and lack of governmental mental health resources and providers. Current treatments

Orthorexia nervosa is associated with positive body image and life satisfaction in Chinese elderly: Evidence for a positive psychology perspective.

OBJECTIVE: Obsessive attention to healthy eating might paradoxically lead to physical and psychosocial impairments, a potential eating disorder termed orthorexia nervosa (ON). An ongoing debate concerns whether ON should be categorized as an eating disorder, an obsessive-compulsive disorder, or a mental disorder at all. A missing voice in this debate is ON in the elderly, which remains unknown, despite health being a more central issue in everyday life during old age. Similarly missing is ON in East Asia, which remains largely unexplored. METHOD: The current study investigated ON in 313 Chine

Physical activity promotion based on positive psychology: development and piloting of a novel intervention approach.

BACKGROUND: Regular physical activity (PA) is associated with positive health outcomes; however, rates of regular PA are low. Positive psychology interventions are efficacious in other health contexts and may be useful for promoting regular PA. PURPOSE: Phased development and pilot/feasibility testing of a positive psychology intervention to promote PA using the ORBIT model for behavioral treatment development. METHODS: Positive psychology and PA promotion content was translated (phase 1a) and refined (phase 1b) into two 6-week, group-based treatments: Positive psychology for PA (PPPA), and

Efficacy of a treatment program based on positive psychology for drug use in juvenile offenders.

One of the factors that increase the likelihood of adolescents starting to exhibit and consolidate anti-social behavior is drug use, with a consistent pattern of consumption of different substance found in young offenders (Aebi, Bessler & Steinhausen, 2021). A cognitive-behavioral group treatment program inspired by the positive psychology approach was developed and applied to drug use in minors deprived of liberty (experimental group); the results were compared to those of a group of adolescents with the same type of drug use in the same center (active control group) at two points in time: du
