Multifrequency tympanometry scans pressures and frequencies from 226 to 2000 Hz to analyze the resonant frequency of the middle ear, which determines the balance between stiffness and mass. We studied 143 patients (a total of 200 ears) diagnosed as otosclerosis at the E.N.T. Service of Santiago de Compostela University Hospital Complex, and 136 control subjects. The mean age of patients was 47.7 years; women were predominant (female/male ratio 2.25:1). The mean duration of the disease was 10.4 years. Using the Virtual model 310 tympanometer, we calculated the resonant frequency through the sus

Ankylosed teeth are considered in orthodontic treatment planning; however, diagnostic tools to quantify the rigidity of the tooth-to-bone connection are rare. Resonance frequency analysis (RFA) can quantify the rigidity of the dental implant-to-bone connection and thus may serve as a potential diagnostic tool to identify ankylosed teeth. To test this assumption, we examined 15 and 30 primary mandibular molars, with and without clinical signs of ankylosis, using the Osstell Mentor system. A cut-off implant stability quotient (ISQ) of 43 provided a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 53.3%

AIM: Stability measured by resonance frequency analysis (RFA) is an important factor to be considered in the success of dental implant treatments, which can be evaluated from the implant stability quotient (ISQ). The aim of the present case series was to map the RFA during healing of implants with nanostructured hydroxyapatite surface to describe the behavior of ISQ values related to individual factors.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-three implants were placed in eight patients by conventional surgical protocol, and ISQ values were monitored from the day of implant placement until week 20. To

OBJECTIVES: Given the growing use of resonance frequency analysis in clinical implantology and the inconsistent evidence regarding its prognostic value, this systematic review aimed to clarify the association between implant stability quotient (ISQ) with insertion torque (IT), marginal bone loss (MBL), and implant survival/success rate.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted across MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science to answer the PIO question: "In systemically healthy patients undergoing implant placement, are ISQ values associated

Tumor stiffness is drawing attention as a novel axis that is orthogonal to existing parameters such as pathological examination. We developed a new diagnostic method that focuses on differences in stiffness between tumor and normal tissue. This study comprised a clinical application of laser resonance frequency analysis (L-RFA) for diagnosing gastric cancer. L-RFA allows for precise and contactless evaluation of tissue stiffness. We used a laser to create vibrations on a sample's surface that were then measured using a vibrometer. The data were averaged and analyzed to enhance accuracy. In the

Keloids are chronic fibroproliferative skin disorders with high recurrence rates and limited treatment options, yet reliable diagnostic biomarkers are lacking. Current classification systems rely heavily on clinical observation, underscoring the need for objective, noninvasive tools. In this exploratory study, serum-based 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurement combined with short-time Fourier transform (STFT) for time-frequency analysis was performed, followed by principal component analysis (PCA), to investigate potential patient subgroups. Serum samples from 29 patients were analyse

BACKGROUND: Implant stability is an important determinant of successful osseointegration and long-term clinical outcomes. Although novel implant designs continue to emerge, independent multicenter clinical evidence evaluating longitudinal implant stability patterns remains limited.
AIM: To evaluate longitudinal implant stability patterns of a novel Grade 23 titanium dental implant system using resonance frequency analysis (RFA) across multiple clinical time points.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This multicenter prospective observational study included 230 patients receiving 295 implants across nine

This study aimed to evaluate changes in bone height at osseointegrated implants subjected to orthodontic forces using radiographic examination and resonance frequency analysis. A total of 11 implants placed in 8 patients were studied. The patients were men or women between 30 and 50 years of age who were undergoing orthodontic treatment and whose treatment planning required skeletal anchorage. All implants were placed in the posterior mandibular region. When osseointegration of the implants was complete (4 months after placement), radiography and initial resonance frequency analysis were perfo

Exposure to mechanical vibrations transmitted to the whole body, known as whole body vibration (WBV), poses significant risks to health and safety, particularly contributing to spinal disorders and lower back pain among workers. To mitigate these risks, estimating the resonant frequencies of human body parts and organs is essential, as vibrations near these frequencies can amplify WBVs' harmful effects. However, despite the topic's importance, a comprehensive review of natural frequencies for several body parts remains, quite surprisingly, lacking. The widely cited work by Rasmussen (1983J. Ac

Periprosthetic femoral bone fractures are frequent complications of Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) and may occur during the insertion of uncemented Femoral Stems (FS), due to the nature of the press-fit fixation. Such fracture may lead to the surgical failure of the THA and require a revision surgery, which may have dramatic consequences. Therefore, an early detection of intra-operative fractures is important to avoid worsening the fracture and/or to enable a peroperative treatment. The aim of this in vitro study is to determine the sensitivity of a method based on resonance frequency analysis o

PURPOSE: The primary stability of dental implants is one of the most crucial factors for providing long-term success of osseointegration. Vertical deficiencies, such as those due to maxillary sinus pneumatization, may cause a severe vertical limitation to residual bone height. This study aimed to examine the primary stabilization of implants without apical contacts.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty bone-level implants (4.1-mm diameter/10-mm length) were placed into polyurethane test blocks without apical contacts. According to coronal bone-to-implant contact, groups were set as 4, 6, 8, and 10 m

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: High-frequency chest wall compression (HFCC) therapy by airway clearance devices (ACDs) acts on the rheological properties of bronchial mucus to assist in clearing pulmonary secretions. Investigating low-frequency vibrations on the human thorax through numerical simulations is critical to ensure consistency and repeatability of studies by reducing extreme variability in body measurements across individuals. This study aims to present the numerical investigation of the harmonic acoustic excitation of ACDs on the human chest as a gentle and effective HFCC therapy.

PURPOSE: To investigate how well an implant stability quotient (ISQ) represents resonance frequency.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Benchtop experiments on standardized samples that replicated a mandibular premolar site were conducted to correlate an ISQ value and a resonance frequency to synthetic bone density and an incremental insertion torque; then, a frequency spectrum analysis was performed to check the validity of the resonance frequency analysis (RFA). Brånemark Mk III implants (4 × 11.5 mm; Nobel Biocare) were placed in Sawbones test models of five different densities (40, 30, 40/20, 20, and

HYPOTHESIS: Resonance frequency analysis (RFA) is a reliable, noninvasive method to assess the stability of bone-anchored hearing implants (BAHIs), although surgical-, implant-, and host-related factors can affect its outcome.
BACKGROUND: BAHI plays an important role in restoring hearing function. However, implant- and host-related factors contribute to premature implant extrusion. To mitigate this, noninvasive methods to assess implant stability, along with a better understanding of factors contributing to BAHI failure, are needed.
METHODS: We evaluated the utility of RFA to quantify implan

AIM: Implant primary stability is a prerequisite for implant success. A dehiscence or a circumferential defect (CD) at the time of implant placement presents a challenge for achieving primary stability. The aim of this study was to examine the correlations between implant primary stability determined by resonance frequency analysis (RFA) and periimplant bone levels.
MATERIALS: Ten implants were placed in 2 cadaver heads. A series of different sizes of narrow (NDD) and wide (WDD) dehiscence defects and CDs were surgically created around 6 and 4 implants, respectively. Implant primary stability

Primary stability is an indicator of subsequent osseointegration of dental implants. However, few studies have compared the implant stability among anatomical regions and bone types; thus, not enough data exist regarding the stability of implants placed in regenerated bone (RB). The present study evaluated primary and long-term stability of implants placed in RB and non-regenerated healed bone (HB). A total of 216 screw cylinder implants were placed in 216 patients (98 in HB and 118 in RB, 6 [RB6, N = 68] or 12 [RB12, N = 50] months after tooth extraction). Implant stability was evaluated usin

The goal of this study was to identify the parameters that must be controlled during in vivo resonance frequency measurements with a custom Osstell transducer for custom implants in the guinea pig animal model. A numerical study and in vitro measurements were performed to determine the influence of the boundary conditions as well as the transducer orientation on the resonance frequency measured by the custom Osstell transducer. In the reported guinea pig model, the type of boundary condition, the orientation of the transducer (parallel or perpendicular to the long axis of the bone) and the len

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of implant design on stability and resistance to reverse torque in the tibia of rabbits. Three test groups were prepared using the different characteristics of each implant model: square threads with progressive depth to the apex, a cervical portion without threads and a self-tapping system that is quite pronounced and aggressive (Group 1); triangular threads with flat tips with increasing thread depth from the cervical portion to the apex and a small self-tapping portion with a short thread pitch (Group 2); long thread pitch, progressi
