Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a disease of unknown etiology and pathogenesis which was first recognized by dermatologists. The ocular complications provide the primary concern and notably affect the iris, producing spontaneous hemorrhages in the anterior chamber. Secondary glaucoma and blindness are real threats unless the condition is recognized in the early stages and satisfactory treatment instituted. Other ocular manifestations include epibulbar lesions with corneal involvement and proptosis due to orbital lesions of JXG.

PURPOSE: To report the clinical and histopathologic characteristics and prognoses of three ocular juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) cases.
CASE REPORTS: Three cases were included in this study. The first case involved a 5-year-old girl with an enlarging yellowish mass at the limbus with corneal involvement. Ultrasound biomicroscopy showed a poorly demarcated mass involving the underlying cornea and sclera. The mass was excised in combination with a lamellar keratoplasty procedure. No recurrence was seen at the 2-year follow-up. The second case involved a 2-year-old boy with an enlarging yellowis

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is generally a benign, self-limited histiocytic disorder of the skin. We report two cases of multisystem JXG presenting with clinical features more commonly seen in Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), including diabetes insipidus and lytic bony lesions. Histologically, the skin lesions demonstrated a histiocytic dermal infiltrate that stained for CD-68, but S-100 and CD1a stains were negative. Treatment according to LCH-based chemotherapy regimens resulted in prompt resolution of symptoms. A literature review of multisystem JXG cases treated with chemotherapy su

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a benign histiocytic skin disorder mainly encountered during infancy. Approximately 10% of cases exhibit ocular manifestations leading to serious complications. Specifically, secondary glaucoma can result in severe and blinding eye disease. We present a case of a two-month-old female with JXG related glaucoma in order to demonstrate the classic presentation and the problems commonly encountered in treating this disease. The natural history, pathogenesis, and treatment of the condition are then discussed and the pertinent literature reviewed. JXG should be cons

A case of naevoxanthoendothelioma juvenile xanthogranuloma) is reported with rare features like late onset of the disease, involvement of liver and diffuse cutaneous lesions including cafe au lait spots and pigmented naevus. Final diagnosis could be achieved only on histopathology report.

BACKGROUND: Juvenile xanthogranulomas are rare benign tumors of histiocytic origin with cutaneous manifestation predominantly in the head and neck. A case of a 12-month-old girl is presented.
CASE REPORT: A tumor of the inferior crus of the left auricle had been noticed three weeks after birth. It was of yellowish color, bosselated and firm, and not mobile. During operation the tumor seemed lipomatoid and affected both cutis and subcutis. Histologically cutaneous structures were regular. Subcutaneously, cell-rich connective tissue with foamy histiocytes and Touton giant cells were observed as

Laryngeal juvenile xanthogranuloma is rare and there were only four cases have been reported previously in English literature. We report a case of isolated JXG of larynx in the superglottic region. The mass was well-defined and homogeneous hypoechoic in ultrasonography while presented indistinct boundary and soft tissue density in Computed Tomography images. Radiological findings are nonspecific but could help to understand the extent of the lesion. We suggest that JXG should be considered as differential diagnosis for laryngeal stridor. Laryngeal ultrasound is safe and reliable, which could b

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a relatively rare cutaneous tumor of histiocytic origin, occurring mainly in neonates, children, and young people in the first 2 decades of life. An occurrence in adults is rare. Very rare is also a "deep" subcutaneous and intramuscular localization of this tumor that is called in such case as "deep juvenile xanthogranuloma." A very uncommon variant of this tumor is the so-called mitotically active xanthogranuloma, which was described in the literature only in a single case. We present an interesting case of the mitotically active intramuscular juvenile xanthogranul

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) of the uvea is a rare disease that usually responds to systemic steroids or low-dose radiotherapy. We present an atypical case of bilateral JXG involving the entire uveal tract that presented with an aggressive phenotype. The patient was unresponsive to topical and systemic corticosteroids, cyclosporine, and maximal doses of radiation therapy. The disease was ultimately controlled with the alkylating agent chlorambucil.

The gene locus for neurilemmomatosis has been reported to lie within the neurofibromatosis type 2 gene region, suggesting that these 2 diseases may be identical. We describe an adolescent girl with multiple neurilemmomas and juvenile xanthogranulomas, who was found to have bilateral acoustic neuromas and multiple central nervous tissue tumors as seen in patients with a diagnosis of neurofibromatosis type 2. This case and recent genetic studies suggest that neurilemmomatosis and neurofibromatosis type 2 are the same disease.

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a rare non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis that usually presents as a self-limiting dermatological condition in young children. Rarely, extracutaneous sites may also be involved. We report a case in a 3-year-old girl that presented intraorally as a solitary, well-defined, soft, purple palatal swelling. Patients with these rare intraoral lesions may present to dentists and subsequently to oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Diagnosis requires histopathological analysis and immunohistochemical staining. Further investigation from other specialties is required to rule out i

Multiple cutaneous xanthomas developed in a patient at the age of 10 months, and juvenile chronic myeloid leukemia (JCML) developed at the age of 30 months. The xanthomas were histopathologically consistent with a diagnosis of juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG). A review of other cases of JCML with JXG indicates that the cutaneous lesions have many clinical and histopathologic similarities to sporadic JXG but are more often multiple or papular and confluent. In addition to JXG, a few children with JCML also have multiple café-au-lait spots and a family history of neurofibromatosis.

We treated a patient with juvenile xanthogranuloma on the upper lip. A yellow, elastic, hard tumor on the upper lip was evident from birth, which gradually increased in size. The patient was examined at our department at the age of 7 months, at which time the mass extended from the upper lip to the nasal cavity and measured approximately 1 cm. There was a risk that the mass might obstruct the nasal cavity, and an incisional biopsy was conducted to obtain a definitive diagnosis. In histopathological testing, the patient was diagnosed with a juvenile xanthogranuloma. Part of the mass still remai

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a form of histiocytic proliferative disorder that usually affects the skin and tends to occur during infancy. On rare occasions, it has been reported at extracutaneous sites and in other age groups. Isolated juvenile xanthogranuloma of the nervous system is extremely rare, especially in the cauda equina. A case of juvenile xanthogranuloma of the cauda equina in a 14-year-old boy is reported, and the literature is reviewed.

We present a case of juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) with unilateral involvement of the orbit and eyelid and proptosis, histologically confirmed in a 32-year-old man with a 1-year history of a pansinusitis and dacryoadenitis with rhinitis. Nine months later an infiltration of the anterior upper part of the right orbit and right eyelid appeared. Computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging studies confirmed the presence of pansinusitis and infiltration. The patient underwent a blepharoplasty and excision of the infiltrated tissues of the orbit, eyelid, and levator muscle. Hematoxylin-

Because of a quick growing iris tumor right eye was enucleated in a man 22 years old. It seemed to be malignant according to fluorescein angiography and isotope examinations. On histopathological examination only a juvenile xantogranuloma was found, a benign granulation process of unknown etiology, occurring mainly in young children, where corresponding skin changes could also be found. The 'tumor' is composed mainly by histiocytes sometimes also numerous giant cells and it has numerous fine vessels which can give rise to a spontaneous hyphaema--a clinically important feature. This report describes a rare occurrence of bilateral, spontaneous, nontraumatic hyphema in a 6 weeks old infant, associated with a small, multiple skin lesions. The diagnosis of juvenile xanthogranuloma was confirmed by histopathological examination of the cutaneous lesions. The hyphaema cleared gradually in 2 weeks time with conservative management.

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a disorder of histiocytes usually associated with cutaneous lesions. It may present a diagnostic dilemma in the absence of cutaneous lesions and when deeply located. Differentiation of JXG from other childhood histiocytosis syndromes, especially Langerhans' cell histiocytosis (LCH), is important. We describe an unusual case of deep JXG in a 27-month-old girl with multiple omental and peritoneal nodules presenting with ascites. Although a diagnosis of LCH was suspected clinically, the absence of Birbeck granules and S-100 protein and T6 antigen negativity, toge

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a rare lesion of the skin and deep tissues whose cytologic features have not previously been published. We report on 2 cases of JXG in patients aged 5 days and 5 yr who presented with an axillary mass and enlarged supraclavicular lymph node, respectively. Fine-needle aspiration and touch imprints made from the surgical biopsies yielded cellular specimens composed of histiocytes, multinucleated Touton-type giant cells, and variable admixtures of lymphocytes and eosinophils. One lesion was composed primarily of benign-appearing histiocytes with admixed multinucl
