The Weight of the Real: A Phenomenological Exploration of the "Excess of Reality" in Borderline Consciousness Through a Comparison with Schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: Phenomenological research has long provided a foundation for understanding the schizophrenic condition as a whole, yet its contribution to borderline personality disorder (BPD) remains comparatively scattered across different lines of inquiry. Existing phenomenological studies on BPD typically focus on fragmented lived temporality, dysphoric mood, emotion dysregulation and anomalies of lived body and interpersonal experience, often overlooking the affective and sensory impact of a reality experienced as independent of and indifferent to consciousness. To address this imbalance, thi

A universally automated and ultra-efficient pretreatment device for rapid assay of mycotoxins in grain and oil.

Sample pretreatment is a critical step in mycotoxin detection and analysis for grain and oil. Conventional pretreatment processes are complex and time-consuming, while manual operations frequently lead to low detection specificity and efficiency. This study presents a universal, automated, and ultra-efficient pretreatment device (GOMAPD) and its method. Systematic elucidation of the direct sonication mechanism established the principle that probe immersion depth, intensity, and duration should be preset according to matrix type, providing a theoretical basis for adaptive parameter setting. Porcupine-Quill-Inspired Shape-Morphing Biointerfaces Disassemble Biofilms.

Mature biofilms are difficult to eradicate because the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) matrix shields embedded bacteria from chemical and mechanical attack. Here, we report a porcupine-spine-inspired photo-responsive dynamic offensive bio-interface that dismantles mature biofilms through electrically actuated mechanical penetration and light-driven oxidative stress. A high-aspect-ratio nano-dagger array undergoes reversible nanoscale deformation (∼110 nm) under an alternating electric field, while a photo-responsive heterostructure generates a surface photovoltage (∼364 mV) that enhanc

Facile Enhancement of Corrosion, Wear and UV Aging Resistance of Epoxy Composite Coatings via Graphene Oxide Incorporation.

UV aging, corrosion and wear resistance of epoxy (EP) coatings are all critical for their long-term service in outdoor environments. In this work, graphene oxide (GO) was used as a multifunctional additive in epoxy coatings to improve these properties. Owing to its two-dimensional sheet-like nanostructure and abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, which enable a favorable interface with the epoxy matrix, incorporating GO into epoxy coatings endows the coating with multiple enhanced performances, including anti-corrosion performance, UV resistance, wear resistance, and adhesion to metal

Tailoring the microstructure, mechanical properties, degradation behavior, and biological performance of biodegradable Zn-Cu alloys through plastic deformation processing.

Zn-based alloys have attracted substantial attention as next-generation biodegradable implant materials due to their intrinsic biodegradability, biocompatibility, and unique potential to facilitate tissue regeneration while providing temporary mechanical support. However, systematic studies investigating how different plastic-deformation strategies govern their microstructure and, consequently, their mechanical, corrosion, and biological performance remain scarce. Here, the effects of five plastic-deformation processes, namely, cold rolling, hot rolling, hot extrusion, hot rolling combined wit

Temperature-dependent effects of post-exercise cold-water immersion on recovery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cold-water immersion (CWI) is widely used as a recovery intervention to facilitate post-exercise recovery; however, inconsistent conclusions remain regarding temperature-dependent effects. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively examine the effects of CWI on post-exercise recovery, focusing on delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and biochemical markers of muscle damage, including creatine kinase (CK) and myoglobin (Mb), and to quantitatively compare the effects across different water temperatures. METHODS: This study was conducted as a systematic review and meta-an

Beyond physical isolation: behavioral correlates and potential neurobiological mechanisms of functional social isolation.

Functional Social Isolation (FSI) describes a proposed form of social disconnection in the digital era, wherein individuals are physically co-present yet psychologically detached during pervasive digital immersion. This review examines how everyday digital immersion may contribute to persistent social disengagement, outlines its behavioral correlates and potential neurobiological pathways, and discusses its implications for public health and behavioral psychology. By synthesizing emerging literature on co-present digital immersion, social buffering, and neuroendocrine regulation, we identify f

Reverse sinus barotrauma with periorbital emphysema as an occupational hazard - a case report.

Sinus barotrauma is the second most common diving injury among divers. It results from an imbalance between the pressure within the sinuses and the ambient pressure. It may occur not only as "barotrauma of descent" but also as "barotrauma of ascent/reverse barotrauma," which is less common. Here, we describe a professional diver who had worked at a fish farm for nearly 3 years, diving with SCUBA equipment, and developed reverse sinus barotrauma with periorbital emphysema. This diving injury is preventable. To help prevent it, divers must have adequate education and knowledge of diving physics,

DNA-polyphenol wet-adhesive hydrogel for rapid hemostasis.

Rapid hemostasis under wet and dynamic conditions remains a major challenge for wound management. Herein, a DNA-polyphenol wet-adhesive hydrogel was developed by integrating DNA with tannic acid (TA), dopamine (DOPA), and mesoporous bioactive glass (MBG). The resulting hydrogel exhibited robust wet adhesion, enabling effective sealing on various substrates and biological tissues. The integration of DNA, polyphenol components, and MBG endowed the hydrogel with enhanced adhesive properties, with an adhesive strength exceeding 35 kPa after prolonged immersion. In vitro studies demonstrated enhanc

Effects of extreme environmental conditions on the skin barrier: a pilot study from the "Under The Pole" project with spectral and biometric measurements.

INTRODUCTION: Under The Pole is an ambitious underwater exploration program in extreme environments, particularly in deep and polar regions. Diving in the cold and saline waters of the Arctic exposes the skin to intense thermal and osmotic stress, potentially altering its barrier function. This study aimed to evaluate both the acute and long-term effects of repeated cold-water diving on skin hydration and barrier integrity during a two-month Arctic expedition. METHODS: Seven healthy Caucasian male participants without facial skin lesions were monitored throughout the expedition. Skin appearan

Prefrontal cortex hemodynamics and marksmanship accuracy following cold stress exposure.

INTRODUCTION: Military operations require performance in extreme environments, where cold stress exposure (CSE) may compromise safety and mission success. Using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), we examined the effects of CSE on marksmanship performance and prefrontal cortex (PFC) cerebral hemodynamics. We hypothesized that CSE will decrease performance and increase oxygenated (O2Hb) and deoxygenated (HHb) hemoglobin under cold stress. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirteen participants (24.3 ± 3.2 years) completed thermoneutral (TN, 24 °C air, no water immersion) and CSE (0 °C air, 15

Development of an immersion-type hydrogel-integrated microfluidic glass fiber-based analytical device and its application to smartphone-assisted glucose colorimetric assay.

Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) are attractive platforms for on-site analysis; however, quantitative analysis remains challenging because sampling strongly influences analytical performance. Existing sampling methods often require precise volumetric sampling or operator-dependent handling, which involves an inherent trade-off between analytical simplicity and quantitative reliability. To overcome this limitation, herein, we propose the concept of a quantitative assay using an immersion-type hydrogel-integrated microfluidics glass fiber-based analytical device (IHμGFAD). The

[Non-targeted metabolomics analysis of exosomes derived from Glycyrrhiza uralensis].

Exosomes are nanometer-sized secretory vesicles that play a pivotal role in mediating intercellular communication. Recently, exosomes derived from herbal medicine have garnered significant attention owing to their unique composition features and therapeutic potential. Glycyrrhiza uralensis, a traditional Chinese medicinal and edible plant, is rich in flavonoids, terpenoids, polyketides, and phenolic acids. However, the long-term consequences of overharvesting and artificial cultivation have led to inconsistent quality of licorice materials. Plant tissue culture technology offers a sustainable
