Possible role of ribosome biogenesis in the recovery from transient hepatic damage caused by ethylene glycol in rats.

PURPOSE: Ethylene glycol (EG), a widely used industrial compound, has been implicated in accidental poisoning and homicide. Although the nephrotoxic mechanisms of EG are well characterized, its acute hepatotoxic potential remains underexplored. This study investigated histopathological and molecular alterations in the liver of rats following acute administration of EG. Possible dysfunction of an anti-oxidative pathway involving ferroptosis (glutathione peroxidase 4, Gpx4; solute carrier family 7 member 11, SLC7A11) is also examined. METHODS: Male rats (8-week-old, male) were orally administer

Epidemiological analysis of pesticide poisoning cases in Zibo City, Shandong Province, China: a decade-long study (2014-2023).

BACKGROUND: Pesticides are extensively employed across agricultural, public health, and industrial sectors, yielding significant benefits in crop protection and food security. However, their overuse and misuse have escalated pesticide poisoning into a pressing global public health issue-particularly in developing countries such as China. As the world's largest pesticide consumer, China continues to experience a disproportionately high burden of pesticide-related morbidity and mortality, even following the nationwide phase-out of highly hazardous compounds. Alarmingly, intentional ingestion of

Paraquat associated stomatitis: A forensic marker of exposure intent and prognosis.

INTRODUCTION: Paraquat-associated stomatitis (PAS) is a hallmark of paraquat poisoning but its potential as an intent-specific or prognostic marker remains unexplored. This study investigated whether PAS patterns differ between accidental and suicidal exposures. METHODS: A pooled, individual case analysis of 170 paraquat poisoning cases from 122 publications was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Data on demographics, exposure intent, and detailed oral lesion characteristics (morphology, pattern, severity) were extracted. Statistical analyses identified predictors of intent and prognosis.

Fatal phosphine poisoning after accidental aluminium phosphide exposure: a forensic case report.

Aluminium phosphide is a widely used fumigant pesticide that releases phosphine (PH₃), a highly toxic gas responsible for severe and often fatal poisoning. Phosphine intoxication is characterized by rapid clinical deterioration, severe metabolic acidosis, cardiovascular collapse, and multiorgan failure. From a forensic perspective, the diagnosis may be challenging because autopsy findings are frequently nonspecific. We report a fatal case of phosphine poisoning following accidental exposure to aluminium phosphide (Phostoxin) in a 41-year-old electrician. Clinical, biochemical, autopsy, and tox
