Prognostic analysis of patients with stage IIIC1p cervical cancer treated by surgery.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most common gynaecologic malignancies. The prognosis of stage IIIC1p cervical cancer patients treated by surgery is heterogeneous. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyse the factors influencing the prognosis in such patients. METHODS: From January 2012 to December 2017, 102 patients with cervical cancer who underwent surgical treatment in the Department of Gynaecology and Tumours, Changzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and had pelvic lymph node metastasis confirmed by pathology were analysed retrospectively. All patients underwent

A practical guide to hybrid interstitial/intracavitary brachytherapy for locally-advanced cervical cancer.

PURPOSE: In select cases of locally advanced cervical cancer, a hybrid brachytherapy (HBT) approach consisting of a combined intracavitary (IC)/insterstitial (IS) implant can yield improved target coverage and/or decreased organ at risk dose compared to IC techniques while limiting invasiveness compared to IS techniques. METHODS AND MATERIALS: The technique involves placement of transvaginal and/or perineal needles in addition to the tandem and ring/ovoids using either a specialized applicator or free-hand placement. Following applicator and needle placement, brachytherapy may then be planned

CLPTM1L expression predicts recurrence of patients with intermediate‑ and high‑risk stage IB‑IIB cervical cancer undergoing radical hysterectomy followed by TP as adjuvant chemotherapy.

According to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network clinical practice guidelines of cervical cancer, concurrent chemoradiotherapy or radiotherapy is suggested for patients who receive radical hysterectomy and have intermediate- and high-risk cervical cancer. However, adjuvant chemotherapy has been increasingly chosen given the adverse events associated with chemoradiotherapy or radiotherapy and the increase in evidence regarding the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy. Given that adjuvant chemotherapy is not a standard treatment at present, if recurrence after adjuvant chemotherapy could be p

Robotic multiple sigmoid and rectal mucosa skinning in a multicentric deep infiltrating bowel endometriotic nodules: a case report.

Endometriosis is a benign gynecological disease characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. The eradication of non-gynecological localizations represents the real surgical challenge. A 29-year-old woman underwent robotic surgery with the Da Vinci system (Intuitive Surgical Inc.) for a diagnosis of stage IV deep endometriosis. The patient presented with 5 cm left ovarian endometrioma, an infiltration of the left posterior parametrium, and bilateral ureteral endometriosis. Once inside the pelvic cavity, deep intestinal infiltrating endometriosis implants were confirme

Large bladder flap haematoma following a caesarean section associated with right hydroureteronephrosis: A case report and a mini‑review of the literature.

Post-caesarean section bladder flap haematoma is a rare postpartum complication. There are currently no specific treatment protocols, at least to the best of our knowledge. In general, the failure of conservative treatment with antibiotics requires the re-operation and surgical drainage of the haematoma. The present study describes the case of a primiparous pregnant woman who, at 40 weeks of pregnancy, delivered by caesarean section. On the 3rd post-operative day, the puerperant, haemodynamically stable, developed febrile infection. During the evaluation, the presence of bladder flap haematoma

Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy plus Radical Surgery in Locally Advanced Cervical Cancer: Retrospective Single-Center Study.

BACKGROUND: Several pretreatment variables have been found to correlate with the clinical outcome of patients treated with NACT plus radical hysterectomy, such as FIGO stage, tumor size, and lymph node status. METHODS: A single-center retrospective observational study to evaluate the use of NACT in LACC, particularly in the lymph-node-positive subpopulation. The study, conducted at the Maternal and Child Department of "Cannizzaro Hospital" in Catania, included patients treated between 2009 and 2019. Multivariate analysis was performed to analyze responses to NACT according to clinicopathologi

Radical Hysterectomy or Total Mesometrial Resection-Two Anatomical Concepts for Surgical Treatment of Cancer of the Uterine Cervix.

A radical hysterectomy is the standard method of surgical treatment for patients with early-stage cancer of the uterine cervix. It was first introduced more than 100 years ago. Since then, various and many different radical procedures, which diverge in terms of radicality, have been described. Inconsistencies are clearly seen in practical anatomy, which were defined as surgically created artifacts. Moreover, the disparity of the procedure is most notable regarding the terminology of pelvic connective tissues and spaces. Despite these controversies, the procedure is widely performed and impleme

Benign female genital tract smooth muscle tumors with adipocytic differentiation: A morphologic, immunohistochemical and MDM2 fluorescence in situ hybridization study of 44 conventional lipoleiomyomas and lipoleiomyoma variants.

Leiomyomas with adipocytic differentiation typically occur in the uterus although they may arise at several sites in the female genital tract. While these are most commonly spindled leiomyomas with a component of adipocytic tissue ("conventional lipoleiomyomas"), there is a relatively ill-defined assortment of leiomyoma variants with adipocytic differentiation. We performed a morphologic, immunohistochemical and MDM2 gene amplification analysis of a large series of gynecologic leiomyomas with adipocytic differentiation to better define the clinicopathologic spectrum. Forty four tumors from 44

Endocervical Adenocarcinoma Showing Microcystic, Elongated, and Fragmented (MELF) Pattern of Stromal Invasion: A Single-Institutional Analysis of 10 Cases with Comprehensive Clinicopathological Analyses and Ki-67 Immunostaining.

Microcystic, elongated, and fragmented (MELF) pattern of invasion has seldom been documented in endocervical adenocarcinoma (EAC). The aim of this study was to analyze the clinicopathological characteristics of EAC showing MELF pattern. We collected the clinicopathological information of 10 cases of EAC with the MELF pattern and conducted polymer-based immunostaining for Ki-67 (dilution 1:200, clone MIB-1) on these cases. Ki-67 expression was assessed using the average estimation within the hotspot method. All tumors were human papillomavirus-associated EAC with Silva pattern C. All except one

Surgical Outcomes in Early-Stage Cervical Cancer Following Radical Hysterectomy in a Resource-Limited Setting: The Experience of the National Cancer Institute (Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama), Sri Lanka.

Introduction Cervical carcinoma is the commonest gynecological malignancy in Sri Lanka, and this incidence is rising. Radical hysterectomy is the preferred treatment for stages IB1, IB2, and selected cases of stages IIA1. Although surgery is feasible unless the parametrium is involved, careful patient selection is crucial in order to prevent the patient from receiving a dual mode of radical treatment (surgery and radiotherapy). Pre-operative imaging with MRI and PET-CT can accurately determine the tumor size and the lymph node metastasis. In a resource-limited setting, management is challengin

The alteration of apoptosis-related genes in female pelvic supportive tissues with regard to menopausal status.

PURPOSE: We aimed to compare the expression levels of anti-apoptotic and proapoptotic genes in the parametrium, sacrouterine and round ligaments with respect to menopausal status in women presenting without any indication of pelvic organ prolapse (POP). We hypothesized that apoptosis related gene expressions in female pelvic tissues may be altered during menopause. METHODS: The study groups consisted of pre-menopausal (n = 10) and menopausal (n = 10) females who did not have POP symptoms. Three different types of tissue samples (Parametrium, Round Ligament and Sacrouterine Ligament) were obta
