Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome Following Remission of Cushing's Syndrome and Review of Literature.

The current study aims to report cases of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) following Cushing's syndrome (CS) treatment and elucidate various presentations of IRIS and its management. A single-centre study was conducted in individuals with endogenous CS who presented with immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome after CS remission. A literature review was also conducted to describe the previous reporting of IRIS. Nine cases from the author's centre were identified. Out of 9 cases, one case was ectopic CS, who presented with CNS vasculitis following excision of the primary l

Takayasu's Arteritis with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Case Report.

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a rare granulomatous vasculitis affecting the aorta and its major branches, while systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystem autoimmune disorder known for vascular and serological involvement. Although both diseases share certain immunopathological pathways, their co-occurrence is exceedingly rare. We report a case of a 44-year-old Indian female with a prior diagnosis of SLE who presented with breathlessness, palpitations, and nodular episcleritis. Cardiovascular evaluation revealed carotid bruit, diminished peripheral pulses, blood pressure discrepancies, a

Wunderlich Syndrome as an unusual presentation of Microscopic Polyangiitis: A Case report with Review of Literature.

Wunderlich syndrome, characterized by spontaneous perinephric hematoma with subcapsular extension has been scarcely reported in microscopic polyangiitis (MPA). We report the case of a 45-year-old woman, who presented with constitutional symptoms, left-eye episcleritis, and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. She developed sudden, severe left flank pain with hemoglobin drop two days after admission. Both computed tomography (CT) and non-contrast magnetic resonance imaging revealed large left-sided perinephric hematoma. CT angiography failed to demonstrate intrarenal aneurysms. A remarkable

Use of type I bovine collagen membranes for treating deep and perforating corneal ulcers in brachycephalic dogs: a case series.

This retrospective study aimed to assess the effectiveness of lamellar keratoplasty using 200 μm type I bovine skin-derived collagen membranes for the treatment of deep and perforating corneal ulcers in dogs. Twelve cases involving dogs with descemetocele and/or ocular perforation demonstrated advanced corneal stromal damage and compromised eye integrity. Two hundred-micrometer (200 μm) type I bovine skin-derived collagen membranes were inserted into the corneal lesion, which was protected with a 360-degree conjunctival flap, followed by tarsorrhaphy. Evaluations were conducted on days 15, 30,

Urticarial hypocomplementemic vasculitis syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Hypocomplementemic urticarial vasculitis (HUV) syndrome is a rare form of small-vessel vasculitis characterized by a heterogeneous spectrum of clinical and biological findings. It is typically marked by chronic urticarial eruptions, hypocomplementemia and histopathological evidence of leukocytoclastic vasculitis. It may also involve multiple organ systems, with frequent articular, gastrointestinal, renal, and other systemic manifestations. The differential diagnosis with other systemic autoimmune diseases, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is often challenging due to

Nanomaterials for the Treatment of Contamination by Nosocomial Pathogens in Intensive Care Units.

INTRODUCTION: Posterior subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide (PSTA) is commonly done to treat refractory cases of macular edema. Complications may arise from the procedure as well as from the use of the periocular steroid medications. Side effects include subconjunctival hemorrhage, progression of cataract, scleral perforation (resulting in subretinal, subhyaloid, or intravitreal injection of the drug), retinal detachment, ptosis, orbital fat prolapse, orbital abscess, infectious scleritis, ocular hypertension, and scleral abscess. Here we describe a case of inadvertent subretinal tri

Junctional proliferative vitreoretinopathy in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment secondary to viral retinitis in HIV.

INTRODUCTION: Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a vision-threatening complication of viral retinitis, at times compounded by proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) at the junction of the necrotic and unaffected retina. METHODS: Retrospective review of eyes with 'junctional PVR' in RRD after viral retinitis. We define junctional PVR as presence of stiffness, transverse traction, epiretinal membrane and/or pucker at the junction of normal and necrotic retina. RESULTS: Five eyes of four patients with a mean age at presentation of 46.5 ± 10.96 years were included. Immunosuppression due t

Use of cyclosporine A 0.05% ophthalmic emulsion for a distinctive intrapalpebral phenotype of anterior scleritis.

Chronic scleritis poses a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge with multiple mimickers, underlying autoimmune conditions, diverse presentations and variable course. Treatment for mild forms includes topical corticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). For long-term control in patients with inadequate responses to steroids and NSAIDs, immunomodulators are employed. While oral cyclosporine has been used for inflammatory ocular conditions, research on topical cyclosporine for scleritis is limited. We present two cases: a man in his early 60s and a women in her late 20s, bot

Infectious scleritis: a review of etiologies, clinical features, and management strategies.

Infectious scleritis is a severe and potentially vision-threatening inflammation of the sclera caused by microbial invasion. Unlike autoimmune scleritis, infectious scleritis is less common with a prevalence of 5%-10% of all cases of scleritis. The initial clinical presentation may often resemble autoimmune scleritis, thus resulting in a delayed diagnosis and poorer outcomes. A high level of suspicion is required in such cases and risk factors such as with a history of trauma or surgery and worsening or refractory to immunosuppressive medications as these may well be infectious. While in estab
