Visual and Anatomical Outcomes After Early Phacovitrectomy for Diabetic Tractional Retinal Detachment Without Macular Involvement.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Diabetic tractional retinal detachment (TRD) is an advanced complication of proliferative diabetic retinopathy that may lead to irreversible visual loss. When the macula remains uninvolved, surgical treatment before macular involvement may be clinically relevant. The aim of this study was to describe the 6-month anatomical and visual outcomes of phacovitrectomy performed within 45 days of diagnosis in patients with diabetic TRD without macular involvement and to explore the association between detachment extent and final visual acuity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This ret

Anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Injection-to-Surgery Interval in Diabetic Vitrectomy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

TOPIC: To evaluate how outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) vary with the preoperative anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injection-to-surgery interval. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Preoperative anti-VEGF facilitates vitrectomy in PDR, but the influence of the interval is unclear; longer intervals may increase fibrovascular contraction and tractional retinal detachment (TRD) risk. METHODS: This prospectively registered review (CRD420250651229) searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials to March 17,

Intravitreal curcumin-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers for the management of post-traumatic proliferative vitreoretinopathy: optimization, in vitro characterization, and in vivo animal study.

Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is a pathological vision-threatening complication that develops after a penetrating ocular trauma, retinal detachment and/or retinal reattachment surgery. After retinal break, epidermal growth factor (EGF) mediates the proliferation and dedifferentiation of retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE) into fibrotic pre/subretinal PVR membranes. The contraction of these membranes results in tractional retinal detachment. To date, there is no approved adjuvant treatment for the prevention of PVR recurrence after surgical peeling of the membranes, and few studies h

Integrin αvβ8-mediated TGF-β1 activation regulates the sustained response in immune thrombocytopenia after TPO-RA withdrawal.

BACKGROUND: Retinal capillary haemangioblastoma (RCH) is a benign but potentially vision-threatening vascular tumour of the retina. It may occur sporadically or as multifocal, bilateral lesions in association with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease, often serving as the first manifestation of this multisystem disorder. The pathogenesis involves dysregulated angiogenesis through hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathways, resulting in capillary proliferation and stromal recruitment. SUMMARY: RCHs may present as asymptomatic peripheral lesions or as juxtapapillary tumours, leading to exudation, retin
