Herpes zoster vaccine uptake following provider prescription among older adults in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Despite broad recommendations in older adults, uptake for the 2-dose recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV), which protects against herpes zoster (ie, shingles), has historically been low in the United States among those aged 50 years and older. By recommending RZV, health care providers play a critical role in encouraging shingles prevention among older adults. A vaccine prescription may reinforce a recommendation, but understanding the extent and associated characteristics of uptake following prescription is needed. OBJECTIVE: To describe RZV uptake following an RZV prescription among

Real-world comparative effectiveness of sarilumab versus Janus kinase inhibitors as monotherapy in rheumatoid arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Sarilumab (SAR), an interleukin-6 receptor inhibitor (IL-6Ri), and Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) are approved options for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) when methotrexate (MTX) cannot be used. Real-world evidence for MTX-free monotherapy remains limited. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter retrospective cohort study of RA patients receiving SAR or JAKi as MTX-free monotherapy. To reduce confounding, 1:1 propensity score matching was performed in the overall cohort (n = 252, 126 per group) and separately within treatment-line strata: Phase 2 first-line biologic/targeted synthetic disea

[Vaccination of Older Adults in Portugal: Recommendations from the Geriatrics Study Group of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine].

Older persons are more susceptible to infections and have a higher risk of serious complications, with a worse functional and vital prognosis. Vaccination is an effective strategy with a favorable safety profile for preventing infections and promoting healthy aging. In view of the clinical evidence and the vaccines available in Portugal in the first half of 2025, the Geriatrics Study Group of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine presents a proposal for vaccination of adults aged 65 years or older. The experts also point out the need to create a national lifelong vaccination program that

Anti-vaccination attitudes and behavioral intentions towards three recommended vaccinations among Chinese older adults with chronic diseases: A multicenter cross-sectional study.

The increasing burden of chronic diseases, along with rapid population aging, has posed significant challenges to public health globally. Older adults with chronic diseases are vulnerable to vaccine-preventable infections. In China, influenza, pneumococcal, and herpes zoster vaccines are recommended for this population, but the uptake is suboptimal. This study aimed to investigate anti-vaccination attitudes among older adults with chronic diseases and examine their behavioral intentions of receiving influenza, pneumococcal, and herpes zoster vaccinations. A nationwide multicenter cross-section

Elevated Risk of Herpes Zoster in Vitiligo Patients: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study of Taiwan.

Emerging therapies for vitiligo, such as Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, have raised concerns about an increased risk of herpes zoster (HZ), emphasizing the need to clarify the baseline HZ risk in patients with vitiligo. This study aimed to determine whether vitiligo itself is associated with a higher risk of HZ and to identify potential modifying factors, including systemic treatments. Using Taiwan's Longitudinal Health Insurance Database from 2010 to 2022, a retrospective nationwide cohort study was conducted. Patients with vitiligo were identified through diagnostic codes and matched in a 1:

Gasserian Ganglion and Supraorbital Nerve Stimulation for the Treatment of Herpetic-Related Neuralgia in the Ophthalmic Branch of the Trigeminal Nerve: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Herpes zoster infection involving the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve may lead to the development of ophthalmic herpetic-related neuralgia. Pharmacologic treatment of ophthalmic herpetic-related neuralgia often exhibits suboptimal clinical outcomes. However, limited reports suggest the use of Gasserian ganglion (GG) stimulation or supraorbital nerve stimulation (SON) through the foramen ovale to treat ophthalmic herpetic-related neuralgia. This study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety profile of peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS), including GG stimulation and SON
