Trichoscopy of Scalp Folliculotropic Mycosis Fungoides: A Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common type of T-cell lymphoma and is characterized by the infiltration of the epidermis by small to medium-sized atypical T lymphocytes. Folliculotropic MF (FMF) is a rare clinicopathological variant of MF characterized by preferential infiltration of the follicular epithelium. Clinical presentation of FMF can vary from follicle-based patches to plaques, nodules, and tumors, with cicatricial or not alopecia. The most involved site is the head, especially the face. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review was to assess the main trichoscopic findings rep

Double Challenges for Scalp Health: A Review of the Pathogenesis and Treatment Strategies of Coexistence of Seborrheic Dermatitis and Androgenetic Alopecia.

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and seborrheic dermatitis (SD) are two common scalp disorders that frequently impair the quality of life and may coexist in a subset of patients across all genders. SD presents in 40%-50% of all patients diagnosed with AGA. Although these conditions are traditionally discussed separately, increasing evidence suggests that they may share overlapping pathogenic factors, including androgen-driven sebum hypersecretion, imbalance of the scalp microecology, barrier dysfunction, and inflammatory signaling. We propose an integrated framework for understanding SD-AGA coexist

Gastrointestinal Side Effects of Low-Dose Oral Minoxidil in Patients with Alopecia: An Underrecognized Association.

INTRODUCTION: Low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) has become an increasingly used therapy for alopecia. While dose-dependent hypertrichosis is the most common side effect, gastrointestinal (GI) adverse effects are plausible due to smooth muscle relaxation, but they have not been systematically reported in clinical studies. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the frequency and characteristics of GI adverse effects in patients treated with LDOM for alopecia. METHODS: We conducted a prospective observational study at a trichology unit including patients attending their second consultation after initiating or

Shedding: An updated guide to a common cause of hair loss.

Telogen effluvium is a common, nonscarring type of diffuse hair shedding that results from a temporary disruption of the normal hair growth cycle and is typically reversible, with gradual regrowth over time. It can be triggered by physiologic or emotional stressors such as illness, surgery, childbirth, nutritional deficiencies, medications, or systemic infection, though a cause cannot always be found. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, and management focuses on identifying potential triggers, educating and reassuring the patient, and offering supportive therapies when appropriate.

Janus kinase inhibitors in the management of lichen planus: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic, lymphocytic, inflammatory skin disorder that can affect the skin, hair follicles, nails, and mucous membranes. It has limited treatment options. The pathogenesis of LP includes inflammation driven by interferons and the Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) signaling pathway. Thus, Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) have been proposed as a viable therapeutic approach for LP. JAKi have recently been approved to treat some lymphocytic skin disorders such as alopecia areata and atopic dermatitis. The purpos

Microneedle-based technology for treating hair loss disorders - an emerging trend for managing alopecia.

Hair loss or alopecia is a universal problem faced by both men and women around the world. An individual's self-esteem is affected by alopecia, and it may lead to psychological stress and anxiety. Topical minoxidil, oral finasteride, and hair transplantation are the common procedures for treating alopecia. But these approaches are associated with various challenges due to high cost, poor patient compliance, and undesired side effects, thereby demanding new strategies for treating alopecia. Identifying novel approaches to treat alopecia has long been a major concern of dermatological research.
