Sonographic normative range of uterine and ovarian dimensions and their correlation with anthropometric and hormonal parameters among Indian women of reproductive age (18-40) years.

BACKGROUND: The Indian population exhibits distinct anthropometric characteristics compared to western populations, necessitating the establishment of region-specific normative values for uterine and ovarian dimensions. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to derive normative reference ranges for ovarian volume, follicle number, uterine size, and endometrial thickness among Indian women of reproductive age and its correlation with anthropometric and hormonal parameters. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional, community-based study was conducted among 1648 Indian women aged 18-40 years from diverse geographic

Efficacy of mindfulness-based interventions on psychological distress, hyperandrogenism, and metabolic profile in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) negatively impacts women's metabolic health, reproductive hormones, and psychological well-being. The aim of this study was to systematically evaluate the efficacy of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs), such as yoga and mindfulness meditation, on anthropometric indices, metabolic profiles, reproductive hormones, and quality of life in women with PCOS. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted with 10 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 356 participants, selected from databases including PubMed and Cochrane Library up to January 2025. Smoldering multiple myeloma in the United States: a population-based analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Primary cicatricial alopecias (PCAs) cause permanent hair loss and psychosocial distress. Management involves anti-inflammatory and hair growth-promoting therapies. A combination of tacrolimus, clobetasol, and minoxidil (TCM) may offer synergistic benefits by targeting distinct inflammatory pathways while increasing background hair density for improved camouflage. This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of TCM use in PCA patients. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective chart review of PCA patients aged 18+ years treated with TCM between January 1, 2009, and May 31, 2025. Out

Novel Homozygous Variants in CIDEC and WRN in a Young Female with Lipodystrophy and Thyroid Cancer.

Autosomal recessive familial partial lipodystrophy type 5 (FPLD5) due to a homozygous NP_001186481.1; p.E186* CIDEC variant has previously been reported in a 19-year-old female with diabetes mellitus, hypertriglyceridemia, and hepatic steatosis. Now, we report an 18-year-old Hispanic female who presented with FPL, along with hirsutism, acanthosis nigricans, and marked insulin resistance, and was found to have an extremely rare homozygous variant in CIDEC (NM_001199623.2:c.224G>T; NP_001186552.1; p.Ser75Ile) by whole exome sequencing. She also harbored a novel homozygous variant in WRN (NM_0005

Rabson-Mendenhall syndrome caused by a novel splice-site mutation (c.1123+2 T>C) of insulin receptor: A case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Rabson-Mendenhall syndrome (RMS) is an extremely rare monogenic form of diabetes caused by mutations in the insulin receptor (INSR) gene, with only about 50 cases reported worldwide to date. Here, we report a case of RMS caused by a previously unreported c.1123+2 T>C splice mutation. CASE SUMMARY: The patient was diagnosed with acanthosis nigricans and hypertrichosis at birth, and the growth rate was slower than that of normal children. At age 5, the patient had severe hyperinsulinemia, congenital heart abnormalities, and pineal cysts. At age 13, he was diagnosed with diabetes and

Building and validating a stigma prediction model for overweight and obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): A observational study.

This observational study was designed to establish and validate a stigma prediction model for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The stigma risk scoring table for overweight and obese patients with PCOS has good predictive ability. When an overweight or obese patient with PCOS presents, the prediction model allows clinic staff to rapidly grade hirsutism, acne, and acanthosis, determine fertility desire, and quantify anxiety. Low-risk patients then receive standard care, whereas high-risk patients receive precision interventions. Unlike the traditional approach, this clinical predi

Acanthosis nigricans as a diagnostic clue for familial partial lipodystrophy type 2: a case report with review of literature on Japanese cases.

Familial partial lipodystrophy (FPLD) is a rare inherited disorder characterized by limb adipose tissue atrophy and metabolic abnormalities, including severe insulin resistance. However, diagnosis is often delayed because the characteristic physique can be difficult to recognize without a high index of suspicion. We present the case of a 19-year-old Japanese woman diagnosed with FPLD type 2 (FPLD2). She had a history of irregular menses and hirsutism since adolescence. The FPLD2 diagnosis was prompted by her concerns about axillary and inguinal pigmentation. Her mother's online search first su

A Case Report: Treatment, follow-up, and literature review of type A insulin resistance syndrome caused by a De Novo INSR c.3328G>C mutation.

BACKGROUND: Type A insulin resistance syndrome (TAIRS) is a rare inherited disorder caused by mutations in the insulin receptor (INSR) gene. It is characterized by severe insulin resistance, hyperandrogenism, and acanthosis nigricans. Its clinical manifestations overlap with those of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), making it prone to misdiagnosis, particularly in adolescent females. Currently, the diagnosis of TAIRS relies on clinical evaluation and genetic confirmation, while long-term management strategies remain limited and challenging. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 12-year-old female p

Associations Between Reproductive Disorders and Specific Physical, Mental, Personality, and Social Characteristics: A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The present review aims to ascertain whether reproductive disorders are associated with specific physical, mental, personality, and social traits. This information may be used to support or reject the hypothesis on the origin of infecundity, which proposes that women/men with preferred characteristics, including high resource holding potential, genetic quality, and/or reproductive potential have advantage over women/men displaying less preferred traits in selecting partners with preferred traits. METHODS: A literature search of the reported associations of endometriosis,

Cornelia de Lange syndrome in an extremely low birth weight infant: a case report.

Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by distinctive facial features, fetal growth restriction, intellectual disability, and hirsutism. Few reports have described extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants with CdLS. We report an ELBW infant diagnosed with CdLS. The infant was delivered by emergency cesarean section at 34 weeks and 1 day of gestation, weighing 994 g (-3.7 SD score). A diagnosis of CdLS was suspected based on dysmorphic features, including forehead hirsutism, cleft palate, long philtrum, wide nostrils, syndactyly of toes, femoral hirsutism, a

Partial Lipodystrophy Mimicking Cushing's Syndrome: Clinical and Metabolic Insights from a Multicenter Study.

CONTEXT: Partial lipodystrophies (PLD) can closely mimic the clinical presentation of Cushing's syndrome (CS). Simplified risk scores have been developed to estimate the clinical probability of CS. However, their ability to discriminate CS from overlapping conditions such as PLD remains unclear. Moreover, reduced leptin action in lipodystrophy may influence the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, although human data are limited. OBJECTIVES: To compare clinical and metabolic features of PLD and CS, evaluate the discriminatory ability of clinical risk scores for CS, and explore leptin-HP

Quality of life and patient-reported side effects of low-dose oral minoxidil in treating female pattern hair loss.

Female pattern hair loss (FPHL) significantly affects women's well-being and quality of life (QoL), and low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) has increasingly gained attention as a convenient and effective treatment option. Although hypertrichosis is reported more often with LDOM than with topical formulations, patient perceptions and tolerance of this side effect remain poorly understood. We conducted a telephone survey at a single institution among women with FPHL currently taking or previously treated with LDOM for at least one month to evaluate treatment effectiveness, QoL, and side effect burden
