Assessment of reliability and validity of specific agility test indicators for amateur boxing.

Based on boxing's unique traits and recent rule changes (e.g., the 2013 10-point system, removal of male headgear, and 2017 adjustments to women's rounds), which heighten agility demands, we developed the Boxing-Specific Agility Test (BSAT). To examine BSAT's reliability, validity, sensitivity, and its relationship with planned agility, sprinting, jumping, and eye-hand coordination, 26 elite male boxers (16 Chinese, 10 Cuban, including five world-class) were recruited. The mean age and training experience of the participants were equal to 22 ± 3.31 years old and 11.54 ± 2.34 years, respectivel

Diagnostic Updates for Polyuria-Polydipsia Syndromes.

OBJECTIVE: Subclinical macrovascular impairment, which has been evaluated with various arterial stiffness (AS) parameters, has been defined in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). However, studies investigating the relationship between AS and clinical endpoints in SSc are lacking. This study aims to determine the prognostic value of AS parameters to predict all-cause mortality in SSc patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: AS parameters [carotid-radial pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx)] were assessed via applanation tonometry. The prognostic value of these parameters was quant

Face Scrubber-Fabricated Affordable and User-Friendly Microwell Devices for Scalable 3D Cell Culture.

Current 3D culture platforms often face challenges such as high costs, single-use, and inconsistent size uniformity and hence are unsuitable for high-throughput applications. Considering these issues, a commercially available silicone face scrubber (SFS) was repurposed as a device or mold to fabricate microwell arrays in agarose for scalable 3D cell cultures, i.e., spheroids and organoids. The presented approach is simple, rapid, and affordable and does not require any expert personnel or instruments for the fabrication of microwell arrays. The efficacy of the method was determined by the perf

Assessment of interstitial lung disease in systemic sclerosis using oscillometric methods: a novel approach to respiratory assessment.

OBJECTIVES: Cardiopulmonary involvement is the leading cause of mortality in SSc, and early detection of interstitial lung disease (ILD) is critical to improving outcomes. Conventional spirometry has limitations, whereas impulse oscillometry (IOS) could provide a non-invasive, effort-independent method to detect and monitor pulmonary involvement in these patients. We aimed to evaluate IOS parameters in SSc-ILD, comparing their performance with conventional spirometry. METHODS: This study assessed the detection of the presence and severity of ILD in SSc patients using conventional spirometry,

Linezolid-mediated Prevention of Fibroblast Activation and Tissue Fibrosis via Mitochondrial Translation Inhibition.

OBJECTIVE: Beyond its role as a ribosome-targeting antibiotic, linezolid was recently shown to modulate immune responses by inhibiting mitochondrial translation. Because mitochondrial dysfunction is implicated in various fibrotic diseases, including systemic sclerosis (SSc), this study aimed to evaluate the antifibrotic potential of linezolid and delineate its underlying mechanisms in SSc. METHODS: The effects of linezolid on fibrotic tissue remodeling were assessed using multiple experimental systems: human dermal fibroblasts, human macrophages, three-dimensional SSc skin equivalents (SScSE)

Distinct Effects of Complement C4A and C4B Copy Numbers in Systemic Sclerosis Serological and Clinical Subtypes.

OBJECTIVE: Complement component 4 (C4), encoded by C4A and C4B within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) on chromosome 6, regulates the immune response and clears immune complexes. The variable copy number (CN) of C4 genes and retroviral human endogenous retrovirus K (HERV-K) element influence its function. Given the relationship of C4 CN with systemic sclerosis (SSc) risk, we assessed associations with SSc clinical and serologic subtypes. METHODS: We compared imputed C4 CNs across SSc subgroups (4,049 anticentromere positive [ACA+]; 2,200 anti-topoisomerase I [ATA+]; 577 anti-RNA pol
