Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most common endocrine cause of secondary hypertension and carries a greater risk of cardiorenal complications than essential hypertension. Recent domestic and international guidelines and consensus statements have proposed screening all patients with hypertension for PA. To cope with the massive patient base resulting from universal screening, this article explores practical schemes for the stratified and graded diagnosis and treatment of PA. By employing "non-drug withdrawal" and "minimal-drug withdrawal" testing protocols, PA screening can be feasibly implem

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is a highly heterogeneous disease characterized by immune-mediated destruction of red blood cells through cellular and humoral mechanisms, complement activation, cytokine release, and bone marrow compensation. Clinically, AIHA exhibits a broad spectrum of severity, ranging from mild or compensated anemia to life-threatening anemia. Traditionally, therapeutic approaches have relied on corticosteroids, immunosuppressive agents, and splenectomy as the mainstay treatment. Increasing evidence suggests that genetic factors, including variants in the PLCG1 gene-whic

BACKGROUND: Postmenopausal women are at increased risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Vascular and cerebrovascular dysfunction may contribute to this increased vulnerability. Tai Chi has been shown to benefit cognitive function, but its effects on cerebrovascular health in this high-risk population remain poorly defined. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a 12-week Tai Chi intervention on cognitive performance, cerebral perfusion, and circulating vasomotor and Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related biomarkers in postmenopausal women with MCI.
METHODS: This single-center, parallel-group

A 4-month-old female-intact German Shepherd mixed breed dog was evaluated for polyuria, polydipsia, oral discomfort, tachypnea, and pyrexia. Blood testing documented total and ionized hypercalcemia with an increased parathyroid hormone concentration. Computed tomography identified bone abnormalities of the mandibule and mild, diffuse pulmonary changes. Ultrasonography of the neck documented one mildly enlarged parathyroid gland that was surgically removed. Histopathology indicated diffuse chief cell hyperplasia. The ionized calcium concentration normalized within 7 days postoperatively.

The transport of blood through narrowed arteries is strongly influenced by the presence of stenotic obstructions, which modify the flow structure and alter the associated heat and mass characteristics. These effects become increasingly complex when multiple constrictions are present within the same arterial segment. The present study develops a mathematical model to investigate the electroosmotic flow of non-Newtonian Ternary Hybrid Nanofluid (THNF) through inclined arteries with three serially developed geometries: triangular, W-shaped, and elliptical stenosis. Blood is modeled as a Jeffrey f

COVID-19 is frequently associated with endothelial dysfunction, characterized by an imbalance between vasodilatory and vasoconstrictive mediators. This study evaluated endothelial function in the early post-COVID-19 period across groups of acute disease severity using flow-mediated dilation (FMD), circulating vasoactive biomarkers, and echocardiography. Serum endothelin-1 (ET-1), arginase-1 (Arg1), thromboxane A₂ (TxA₂)-related immunoreactivity, and prostacyclin (PGI₂)-related immunoreactivity were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. An impaired FMD response was defined as < 10% bra

BACKGROUND: Non-contrast coronary magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA) offers a radiation- and contrast-free alternative for evaluating coronary artery disease, yet its clinical adoption has been constrained by suboptimal specificity, primarily due to flow-related artifacts and signal loss inherent to bright-blood imaging. Black-blood vessel wall imaging, by suppressing intraluminal blood signal, enables direct visualization of the coronary wall and may complement bright-blood CMRA to improve diagnostic accuracy. However, the additive value of a targeted sequential protocol combining these tw

INTRODUCTION: Evidence regarding the prognostic significance of thrombocytopenia in spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) remains limited and inconsistent. We investigated its associations with haematoma expansion (HE), functional outcomes and mortality.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analysed prospectively collected data from consecutive patients with spontaneous ICH in a single-centre registry between August 2022 and March 2025. Thrombocytopenia was defined as an admission platelet count <150 × 109/L. HE was defined as a haematoma-volume increase >6 mL or >33% on follow-up n

INTRODUCTION: IgA vasculitis (Henoch-Schönlein purpura, HSP) is a small-vessel vasculitis predominantly affecting children, while adult-onset disease is less common and often more severe, particularly with renal involvement. Drug-induced cases are rare, with only isolated reports linking isotretinoin to IgAV.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old woman developed palpable purpura, abdominal pain, and symmetric polyarthritis three weeks after starting isotretinoin. Laboratory evaluation showed mild inflammation with negative autoimmune workup and normal renal function; repeated urinalysis remained n

Repetitive mild traumatic brain injury (rmTBI) and chronic environmental exposure to heavy metals represent widespread contributors to neurological dysfunction that are typically studied independently. However, emerging evidence indicates that these insults converge on overlapping cellular pathways that disrupt neuronal homeostasis, redox balance, genomic stability and proteostasis, including tau regulation. Notably, environmental metals including mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium induce oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neuroinflammatory signaling, proces

BACKGROUND: Mounting evidence revealed that the weakened coupling between CSF flow and global brain activity (gBOLD-CSF coupling) is associated with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) pathology and cognitive impairments. However, the mechanisms underlying this weakened coupling remain unclear.
PURPOSE: To investigate the region-specific effects of cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) on the gBOLD-CSF coupling.
STUDY TYPE: Retrospective.
POPULATION: One hundred ninety-eight cognitively normal controls (70.2 ± 8.7 years; 128 female, 70 male), 115 mild cognitive impairment patients (73.1 ± 7.1 years; 50 fem

Hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state (HHS) is a rare but life-threatening hyperglycemic emergency in children and adolescents. It is characterized by severe hyperglycemia, hyperosmolality, and dehydration, with absent or limited ketoacidosis. Although more commonly associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus, HHS may also occur as the initial presentation of type 1 diabetes mellitus in pediatric patients. We report the case of a previously healthy 13-year-old boy presenting with a three-week history of polydipsia and nocturnal polyuria. Initial evaluation revealed profound hyperglycemia (>1,000 mg/dL
