Tuberculosis combined with Burkitt lymphoma in a kidney transplant recipient: A case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: Tuberculosis (TB) and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder are serious complications affecting the long-term survival of kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). Both of complications have overlapping clinical symptoms, signs, and high similar imaging presentation, which make early clinical diagnosis challenging. In this paper, we reported a rare case of post-transplant pulmonary TB combined with Burkitt lymphoma (BL) in KTR. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 20-year-old female KTR presented to our hospital with abdominal pain and multiple nodules throughout the body. DIAGNOSES: TB is diagn

Pelvic Ectopic Kidney Prevalence and Pressure Changes During Cloacal Exstrophy (Omphalocele-Exstrophy-Imperforate Anus-Spinal Defects Syndrome) Closure.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the prevalence of pelvic ectopic kidneys (PEK) and compare renal parameters of the PEK to the orthotopic kidney following pubic bone approximation. METHODS: In four Omphalocele-Exstrophy-Imperforate Anus-Spinal Defects Syndrome (OEIS) patients undergoing second-stage repair with known pelvic and orthotopic kidneys, changes in the renal pelvis pressure (RPP), peak systolic velocity (PSV), and resistive index (RI) were measured in the pelvic and orthotopic kidneys following pubic bone approximation. A paired t-test was performed for analysis. Prevalence was tabulated using

A rare case of a combination of ectopic kidney and medial arcuate ligament syndrome: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Ectopic kidney and median arcuate ligament syndrome are both rare conditions. The clinical presentation and diagnosis of these conditions are not well studied. There are no reports on the combination of these two rare conditions. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 24-year-old woman with fever, dysuria, urinary frequency and left flank pain for two days. The primary diagnoses in the clinic were left acute pyelonephritis and left hydronephrosis due to throbbing pain in the left costovertebral angle and pyuria. However, further computed tomography showed right ectopic pelvic kidney, left

Complex case of ureteropelvic junction obstruction with bifid renal pelvis in ectopic kidney: A rare combination.

INTRODUCTION: Renal pelvis bifidity, ectopic pelvic kidney, and ureteropelvic junction obstruction are rare urinary tract anomalies resulting from embryological developmental variations. Their coexistence in one kidney is exceedingly uncommon. CASE PRESENTATION: An 18-year-old male with no prior medical history presented with right-sided lumbar pain. A CT scan revealed bilateral hydronephrosis, with the left kidney being malrotated and ectopically positioned in the pelvis. Dynamic renal scintigraphy confirmed bilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Surgical management involved laparosco

Laparoscopic Pyelolithotomy for treating urolithiasis in ectopic pelvic kidneys.

INTRODUCTION: The management of urolithiasis ectopic pelvic kidneys (EPK) can be challenging because of the aberrant anatomy (1-4). We demonstrate the step-by-step technique of the laparoscopic approach for treating urolithiasis in EPK. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Three men with EPK (2 left, 1 right) underwent laparoscopic pyelolithotomy through a transperitoneal approach. After establishing the pneumoperitoneum, the parietal peritoneum was opened at the parietal colic sulcus and the bowel displaced medially. The kidney was identified in the retroperitoneum and the renal pelvis exposed after remova

Spontaneous cervical hematoma caused by giant parathyroid adenoma in an elderly patient: A case report.

Spontaneous cervical hematoma usually occurs as a consequence of extracapsular bleeding from a parathyroid gland, generally due to the presence of an adenoma (giant adenoma), glandular hyperplasia, cystic component, or, less frequently, due to the existence of a carcinoma. The hematoma can be confined to the cervical compartment or extend to the mediastinum, potentially causing airway compression. Despite this, the recommended management in hemodynamically stable patients consists of surveillance and hospital monitoring with delayed surgery after a few weeks. On the other hand, in those patien

An Unusual Case of Inguinal Hernia With the Left Ovary and an Ectopic Left Pelvic Kidney in a 37-Year-Old Woman: A Unique Clinical Encounter.

Gynecological components, including ovaries, fallopian tubes, ligaments, and the uterus, are seldom found within hernial sacs. The occurrence of groin hernias containing elements of female genitalia is not well-documented. This case report presents a 37-year-old woman with a unique clinical scenario involving an inguinal hernia containing the left ovary and an associated ectopic left pelvic kidney. The patient's clinical history, characterized by left inguinal pain and swelling, is detailed, including relevant reproductive and medical background. The diagnostic journey encompasses ultrasound a

Rare Single Nucleotide and Copy Number Variants and the Etiology of Congenital Obstructive Uropathy: Implications for Genetic Diagnosis.

SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: Congenital obstructive uropathy (COU) is a prevalent human developmental defect with highly heterogeneous clinical presentations and outcomes. Genetics may refine diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment, but the genomic architecture of COU is largely unknown. Comprehensive genomic screening study of 733 cases with three distinct COU subphenotypes revealed disease etiology in 10.0% of them. We detected no significant differences in the overall diagnostic yield among COU subphenotypes, with characteristic variable expressivity of several mutant genes. Our findings therefore m

Detection and management of a case of single system ectopic ureteral insertion to vagina with atrophic ectopic kidney.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Ectopic ureter is defined as any ureter, single or duplex, that opens in a location other than trigone of bladder. Continuous urine leakage and regular intentional voiding must point to the diagnosis of an ectopic ureter, particularly in females (Singh et al., 2022). Following successful repair of ectopic ureter, the overall long-term continence rate is satisfactory. CASE PRESENTATION: This case is reported to discuss a case of 24 yrs. old woman presenting with a complaint of insensible continuous urinary leak with normal intentional voiding since childhood. Laparoscopic assisted mini-ECIRS for ectopic kidney lithiasis: A case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Ectopic kidney is a rare anatomic variant with an incidence of about 1 in 900. Renal stones can pose a challenge when a standard approach is not possible. Laparoscopic-assisted endourologic procedure can be a feasible and safe choice. CASE REPORT AND LITERATURE REVIEW: We present a case of 32 years old man with spastic quadriplegia, megacolon and pelvic kidney undergoing intervention of laparoscopic-assisted Mini ECIRS for staghorn stone of the left pelvic kidney. To the best of our knowledge, only 59 cases are reported in the literature concerning laparoscopically assisted encd

Rare complication of ureteral double-J stenting after ureteroscopy: pelvic ectopic renal parenchymal perforation.

Scarce data are available on pelvic ectopic renal parenchymal perforation. However, this complication might lead to serious consequences. Clinicians should pay attention to the early identification and treatment of this complication. We herein report the first case of pelvic ectopic renal parenchymal perforation caused by a double-J stent after ureteroscopy. Compared with previously reported cases of renal parenchymal perforation not involving an ectopic kidney, our case involved no renal capsule hematoma and no other serious complications. Our primary management strategy was to review relevan

Treatment for Right-sided Intrathoracic Kidney With Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia by Combined Thoracoscopic and Laparoscopic Approach: A Case Report and Literature Review.

We report a case of right-sided intrathoracic kidney associated with congenital diaphragmatic hernia in a 5-year-old boy. The surgery was performed by a combined thoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgical approach for the first time. Anatomical reposition of the right kidney and nephropexy were carried out under laparoscopy, while repair of the hernia was performed under thoracoscopy. Our experience suggests that combined thoracoscopic and laparoscopic approach provides good visualization of the diaphragmatic hernia and can achieve anatomical reposition and fixation of the ectopic kidney.

Propensity score-matched analysis comparing retrograde intrarenal surgery with percutaneous nephrolithotomy in anomalous kidneys.

BACKGROUND: Endourologic interventions for urolithiasis in patients with anomalous kidneys can be challenging, and comparisons between these interventions are not well studied. We aim to compare the safety, outcomes and complications of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) versus percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in patients with urolithiasis in anomalous kidneys. METHODS: A propensity score-matched pair analysis (PSM) was performed on pooled patient data from 20 centers. 569 patients with anomalous kidneys (horseshoe kidney [HSK], ectopic kidney, malrotated kidney) and urolithiasis who rec

Vesicoureteral Reflux in Children with Urinary Tract Infections in the Inpatient Setting in Taiwan.

PURPOSE: Children with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) are at an increased risk of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). Early detection and treatment of VUR are important to prevent renal function impairment. Therefore, the aims of this study were to determine the epidemiology of VUR and to identify clinical factors associated with VUR in Taiwanese children with a first documented UTI. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We conducted this nationwide retrospective study using the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2010. Children ≤6 years of age who were admitted and received intravenous antibiotics fo

Obesity-related glomerulopathy: Current approaches and future perspectives.

Obesity-related glomerulopathy (ORG) is a silent comorbidity which is increasing in incidence as the obesity epidemic escalates. ORG is associated with serious health consequences including chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and increased mortality. Although the pathogenic mechanisms involved in the development of ORG are not fully understood, glomerular hemodynamic changes, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) overactivation, insulin-resistance, inflammation and ectopic lipid accumulation seem to play a major role. Despite albuminuria being commonly used for the no

Congenital Intrathoracic Ectopic Kidney in Association With Bochdalek Hernia.

Thoracic ectopic kidney is the rarest type of ectopic kidney with a reported finding of one in every 15,000 autopsies. The diagnosis of this anomaly is often incidental. Children may be symptomatic with recurrent respiratory symptoms. We present a case of an infant with a thoracic ectopic kidney associated with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia that was initially misdiagnosed as unresolved pneumonia due to persistent well-demarcated opacity in the left lower lobe. Our aim is to increase awareness about this rare entity.

Delayed Bleeding After Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery: A Rare Complication in Ectopic Pelvic Kidney.

Anatomical variations in the pelvic ectopic kidney (PEK) present many challenges to stone treatment. Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) has emerged as the treatment of choice for small to medium stones. We present a case of delayed hemorrhage due to an arteriocaliceal fistula. A 57-year-old man with a 12 mm middle calyx stone was subjected to uneventful RIRS, despite a high grade of scope deflection. Recovery was unremarkable until 37 days after surgery when the patient started recurrent hematuria and clot retention. Renal angiography revealed a bleeding vessel from an arteriocaliceal fistul

Neurogenic Bladder-Induced Stone in a Pelvic Kidney of a Caudal Regression Syndrome Patient: Management of a Complex Case.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a difficult treatment for treating kidney stones, especially when there are orthopedic or skeletal abnormalities. Here, in a 19-year-old male, we describe a two-step PCNL with a case of caudal regression syndrome (CRS) and a pelvic kidney, with an extremely deformed neurogenic bladder on intermittent catheterization. Our conclusion is that PCNL may be done safely with minimum morbidity in patients with caudal regression syndrome by utilizing adult equipment for heavy stone burdens, allowing full and rapid stone removal.
