INTRODUCTION: Post-COVID-19 condition affects approximately 6% of individuals globally. Most evidence is based on hospitalized patients and is from countries with relatively low vaccination coverage. This study estimates the prevalence of symptoms compatible with post-COVID-19 and explores symptom patterns in a population-based sample from Chile, a country with high vaccination coverage. Moreover, it examines their associations with daily activities and demographic, social, and clinical factors.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in May 2024 in two Chilean Cities, involving 654 pa

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the intractable chronic inflammatory diseases and is often accompanied by mental disorders, such as depression. On the other hand, depression has been pointed out to be strongly associated with the onset of anosmia. However, no clinical or basic research report has been conducted on whether olfactory dysfunction develops in patients suffering from AD. Since NC/Tnd mice, a spontaneous AD model, exhibit depressive symptoms, NC/Tnd mice were used to clarify this point. We found that mice with AD completely lost their ability to sniff around after exposed to two di

INTRODUCTION: Olfactory groove schwannomas (OGSs) are exceptionally rare intracranial tumors, with fewer than 80 cases reported. Their imaging features often mimic meningiomas or esthesioneuroblastomas, complicating preoperative diagnosis. Their origin remains debated due to the absence of Schwann cells in the olfactory nerve.
RESEARCH QUESTION: To describe a rare case of olfactory groove schwannoma with ethmoidal extension, successfully treated through a combined interhemispheric and endoscopic endonasal approach, and to discuss its diagnostic and surgical implications in light of the curren

We report the case of a Hispanic woman in her 50s who presented to the emergency department with persistent hip and left lower extremity pain, followed by progressive anosmia and a right-sided neck mass. On physical examination, the patient had a palpable lymph node in the right submandibular area, and she reported a history of anosmia. A CT scan of the neck and face revealed an enhancing mass in the superior nasal cavity/ethmoid sinus with cribriform plate dehiscence and pachymeningeal enhancement and a right cervical lymph node. A biopsy of the lymph node revealed alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (

CONTEXT: Climate change and anthropogenic stressors are degrading coastal biogenic habitats, disrupting the vital pathways fish use to shift from nearshore nurseries to offshore reef environments. Although fishes are critical for ecosystem health, spatial management rarely accounts for the interconnectedness of fish habitat needs across their life cycle.
OBJECTIVES: To examine and compare drivers of habitat use for subadult size classes of five habitat-shifting fishes from two feeding guilds: mesopredators and herbivores. To assess the multi-species suitability of existing management zones.

BACKGROUND: Kallmann syndrome (KS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and anosmia. It is often underdiagnosed in females due to subtle clinical presentation. This can lead to delays in accurate diagnosis and proper long-term management, particularly in women presenting with amenorrhea and uterine hypoplasia.
CASE ILLUSTRATION: A 25-year-old nulligravid woman presented with lifelong absence of spontaneous menstruation, anosmia, and partial pubertal development. She was initially misdiagnosed with secondary amenorrhea after a positive progesterone withdraw

OBJECTIVE: WHIM syndrome (warts, hypogammaglobulinemia, infections, and myelokathexis syndrome) is an ultra-rare primary immunodeficiency disease caused by autosomal dominant hyperfunctional mutations in the chemokine receptor CXCR4. Otolaryngologists are frequently consulted to evaluate WHIM patients because of recurrent acute ear and sinus infections, particularly in early childhood; however, a systematic assessment of otolaryngologic and audiometric phenotypes is lacking. This study comprehensively describes the auditory and otolaryngology phenotype of WHIM syndrome.

The human sense of smell is important for the awareness of danger like gas, fire or spoiled food, perception of the flavours of food and drink, and social interaction. The impact of limited olfactory capacity or total loss of the sense of smell may be associated with decline in the quality of life and depressive symptoms. Various conditions can be the cause of olfactory disorders, including congenital absence of the olfactory nerve. We present a boy with Silver-Russell syndrome suffering from anosmia.

The human olfactory bulb is a promising structure for the investigation of central nervous system disorders, including dementias of various etiologies. In Alzheimer's disease, anosmia is among the earliest clinical manifestations. Although olfactory disturbances have also been reported in schizophrenia, alterations within the olfactory system remain insufficiently studied. The aim of this study was to identify changes in the olfactory bulbs of patients with schizophrenia. Olfactory bulbs obtained from patients with schizophrenia (n = 23) and individuals without identified nervous system pathol

Pneumatization of the crista galli (PCG) is an anatomic variant of the osseous skull base. Olfactory groove meningiomas (OGMs) arise in the vicinity of the crista galli, and PCG may be an obstacle to complete resection from a preferred unilateral approach. A 22-year-old male presented with symptoms of chronic frontal headaches and was found to harbor a 4cm OGM. Preoperative imaging workup also revealed the presence of a very large PCG with a height of 27mm above the floor of the anterior fossa. Given the presence of PCG, we elected to adjust our conventional approach of a unilateral pterional/

Background Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a prevalent inflammatory condition of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses characterized by symptoms persisting for more than 12 weeks, resulting in substantial impairment of quality of life. Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is the established surgical treatment for patients who fail to respond to conservative medical management. Methods This prospective analytical study included 50 patients with medically refractory CRS who underwent FESS between April 2025 and March 2026. Four principal symptoms - nasal obstruction, facial pain, post-nas

CONTEXT: Congenital genetic disorders have been traditionally considered to be lifelong. An exception to this long-held view is the reversal of congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH). Approximately 10% of male individuals with CHH undergo reversal with sustained hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis activation and/or fertility after discontinuing hormonal treatment.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: We conducted a structured, systematic literature search to identify relevant articles published on reversal of CHH in males (up to 2025). This mini-review provides a concise overview and synthesiz

INTRODUCTION: Delayed puberty in males requires differentiation between self-limited delay and congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH), including Kallmann syndrome (KS).
CASE PRESENTATION: We report an adolescent male presenting with delayed puberty and anosmia, consistent with KS. Hormonal evaluation confirmed CHH, and MRI demonstrated olfactory bulb agenesis. Targeted next-generation sequencing identified two heterozygous variants in functionally related genes: a pathogenic nonsense variant in PROK2 and a missense variant in PROKR2 classified as a variant of uncertain significance.
