RATIONALE: Liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) is the gold standard of urine drug testing. However, current LC-based methods are time consuming, limiting the throughput of MS-based testing and increasing the cost. PURPOSE: Cocaine abuse has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Our recent study has shown that cocaine has adverse action on spermatogenesis and fertility in male rats. The indirect action of cocaine occurs by blocking the reuptake of neurotransmitter, which causes local vasoconstriction. In this study we evaluate blood flow to the testes after subcutaneous injection of cocaine to male rats.
METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two main groups. The treatment group received subcutaneous cocaine (30 mg/kg body weight) and the control animals received normal saline.

PURPOSE: To investigate disease activity in patients with Type 3 neovascularization undergoing anti-vascular endothelial growth factor treatment through image analysis using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
METHODS: Thirty-nine treatment-naive eyes with Type 3 neovascularization were included in the retrospective analysis. All patients were treated with three loading injections of an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agent, followed by further injections as needed. Changes in the Type 3 lesion were analyzed through OCTA imaging during the 12 months of follow-up.

Various natural and anthropogenic processes influence heavy metal concentrations within estuaries. In situ, time-integrated DGT measurements made over concurrent tidal phases found significantly higher concentrations of Cu (probability p=0.017), Zn (p=0.003) and Ni (p=0.003) during the flood phase, because the incoming tide passes several point sources. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of vocal fold medialization, accomplished by injection of autologous fascia, on airflow dynamics and voice acoustics. Ten patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis were included. The author used blood flow measurements to guide partial splenic embolization procedures in five patients.
