Interventions for recurrent corneal erosions.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent corneal erosion is a common cause of disabling ocular symptoms and predisposes the cornea to infection. It may follow corneal trauma. Measures to prevent the development of recurrent corneal erosion following corneal trauma have not been firmly established. Once recurrent corneal erosion develops, simple medical therapy (standard treatment) may lead to resolution of the episode. However, some people continue to suffer when such therapy fails and repeated episodes of erosion develop. A number of treatment and prophylactic options are then available but there is no agreemen

Intraocular lens calculation for cataract after previous radial keratotomy.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to discuss the major reasons for the hyperopic shift after cataract surgery following radial keratotomy (RK) and to find potential methods to improve the prediction of intraocular lens power (IOLP). METHODS: The results for 18 cataract surgery eyes that had undergone RK were analysed retrospectively. The IOLP was calculated using Haigis, Hoffer Q, and SRK/II formulae with different keratometric measurements. Theoretical IOLP miscalculation ((delta)IOLP(K)) was assessed in order to define the optimal combination of different keratometric parameters and int

[Change in twilight vision and glare sensitivity after PRK].

BACKGROUND: Morphological changes in the corneal surface after PRK may result not only in refraction fluctuations and reduction in visual acuity, but also in changes of contrast sensitivity. The aim of this study was to investigate whether PRK has an influence on contrast sensitivity with and without glare with a subsequent effect on the ability to drive cars. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Anonymous inquiries were made by means of a questionnaire sent to 114 patients after bilateral PRK in which the patients were asked to assess subjectly their driving ability. Additionally, in 66 eyes of 66 patients

[Comparison of two different surgical treatments of presbyopia for hyperopic patients over 55 years old: Presbylasik (Supracor) and Prelex (presbyopic lens exchange)].

INTRODUCTION: The management of presbyopic patients is a medical, surgical and economic issue. We wondered which procedure, whether a Presbylasik technique called Regular Supracor or the intraocular surgery of clear lens replacement by a trifocal diffractive lens (presbyopic lens exchange [Prelex]), provided the best results (in visual acuity and satisfaction) for our hyperopic and presbyopic patients between 55 and 70. The aim of this study was to compare the safety and efficacy of the two techniques (at one week and three months) and to assess patients' quality of life. METHODS: This study
