Pilot Evaluation of the Outcomes After Cataract Surgery with Implantation of a New Diffractive Trifocal Intraocular Lens.

PURPOSE: To assess the clinical performance and patient-reported outcomes of a new trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) over a 6-month follow-up period. METHODS: Prospective, non-comparative, single-center study including 20 eyes (10 patients, age, 47-79 years) undergoing bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of the trifocal diffractive IOL AT ELANA 841 P (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany). Visual acuity (VA) and refraction changes were evaluated over a 6-month follow-up period. Likewise, other clinical and patient reported outcomes were analyzed: binocular defocus curve (1 month), patient

Retroprosthetic Membrane Is Associated With Subsequent Development of de Novo Angle Closure in Eyes With Boston Keratoprosthesis.

PURPOSE: Boston keratoprosthesis (KPro) is a widely used treatment for corneal diseases unsuitable for traditional keratoplasty. Postoperative complications, notably retroprosthetic membrane (RPM) formation and secondary glaucoma, significantly affect patient outcomes. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) enables precise visualization of KPro-related complications, such as angle closure and RPM formation. This study aimed to investigate the association between RPM formation and de novo angle closure in eyes with Boston KPro. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of patients who

PURPOSE: To compare axial growth in pediatric cataract patients who underwent multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation without anterior vitrectomy (AV) with that in pediatric patients who underwent monofocal IOL implantation with or without AV. METHODS: Patients who had unilateral pediatric cataracts and underwent surgery at 3-6 years of age from June 6, 2019, to June 30, 2020, at our institution were prospectively analyzed. The patients were categorized into Group A: multifocal IOL implantation with optic capture in Berger's space without AV; Group B: monofocal IOL implantation with op

Comparing an Advanced Monofocal With a Non-diffractive Extended Depth of Focus Intraocular Lens Using a Mini-Monovision Approach.

PURPOSE: To compare interindividual differences in visual performance of an advanced monofocal with a nondiffractive extended depth of focus intraocular lens (IOL) using a mini-monovision approach. DESIGN: Single-center, randomized, controlled, double-masked study. METHODS: In total, 48 patients (96 eyes) with bilateral age-related cataract were enrolled. One group received an advanced monofocal IOL RAO200E (RayOne EMV; Rayner) and the other group a non-diffractive extended depth of focus IOL DFT015 (Acrysof IQ Vivity; Alcon) in both eyes. Target refraction for both groups was mini-monovisio

PURPOSE: To evaluate the topographic, refractive, and pachymetric changes after ethanol-assisted transepithelial corneal cross-linking (CXL) to stabilize progression of keratoconus (KC). PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study retrospectively evaluated the long-term topographic, refractive, and pachymetric changes in patients diagnosed with KC who underwent corneal cross-linking and/or intrastromal corneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation. The subjects were divided into three groups, corresponding to eyes treated with CXL alone (group 1), CXL and ICRS at the same time (group 2), and CXL after ICRS i
