Outcomes of reduction more than 7 days after injury in supracondylar humeral fractures in children.

BACKGROUND: Some slightly extended type II fractures initially treated with closed reduction and casting can displace during the first 2 weeks of follow-up. Although closed reduction and percutaneous pinning are desirable for displaced supracondylar humeral fractures treated acutely, there is little or no available information regarding the surgeon's ability to obtain a satisfactory reduction when such a procedure is performed more than a week after the original injury, or the clinical outcome of it. METHODS: We reviewed the information on 143 type II pediatric supracondylar humeral fractures

[Malpractice in the treatment of fractures and dislocations of the elbow joint in children--experience of the arbitration office of the North German Medical Boards].

BACKGROUND: Statistics of the arbitration office of the North German Medical Boards show that 30% of all panel proceedings confirm medical malpractices. In panel proceedings concerning the treatment of fractures in children, the percentage rose to 60% with significant differences in the individual fracture localisations. METHODS: Between the years 2000 and 2010, the arbitration office dealt with 257 panel proceedings regarding the fracture treatment of children. This study evaluates the decisions of 53 proceedings concerning the treatment of fractures and dislocations of the elbow joint. RES

Traumatic Asymmetric Bilateral Shoulder Dislocation: The First Case Report in Mexico.

INTRODUCTION: Asymmetric bilateral shoulder dislocation is an exceptionally rare pattern of glenohumeral injury characterized by simultaneou … ngaging reverse Hill-Sachs lesion involving approximately 18% of the articular surface of the right humeral head. Urgent closed reduction under sedation was successfully performed using different reduction maneuvers for each shoulder, achieving stable joint congruency. The patient was managed conservatively with temporary immobilization followed by progressive …

Reverse arthroplasty compared to hemiarthroplasty and open reduction and internal fixation for displaced proximal humerus fracture in patients above 60: a Bayesian network meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The present Bayesian network meta-analysis compared reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) to hemiarthroplasty (HA) and open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for displaced proximal humeral fractures (PHF) in patients above 60. METHODS: This study was conducted according to the PRISMA extension statement for reporting systematic reviews incorporating network meta-analyses of healthcare interventions. In December 2024, PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases were accessed. No time constraint was set for the search. All clinical studies were accessed comparing rTSA, O

A prospective radiostereometric analysis of the stability of a metal-backed glenoid component/autograft composite in reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

AIMS: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) can be used in complex cases when the glenoid requires reconstruction. In this study, a baseplate with composite bone autograft and a central trabecular titanium peg was implanted, and its migration was assessed for two years postoperatively using radiostereometric analysis (RSA). METHODS: A total of 14 patients who underwent a rTSA with an autograft consented to participate. Of these, 11 had a primary rTSA using humeral head autograft and three had a revision rTSA with autograft harvested from the iliac crest. The mean age of the patients was …

Case report: Extending the spectrum of clinical and molecular findings in FOXC1 haploinsufficiency syndrome.

FOXC1 is a ubiquitously expressed forkhead transcription factor that plays a critical role during early development. Germline pathogenic var … ormal intelligence. Skeletal surveys revealed dolichospondyly, epiphyseal hypoplasia of femoral and humeral heads, dolichocephaly with frontal bossin gand gracile long bones. We conclude that haploinsufficiency of FOXC1 causes ARS and a broad spectrum of symptoms with variable expressivity that at its most severe end also includes a phenotype overlapping with …

Open Latissimus Dorsi Transfer for Irreparable Subscapularis Tendon Tear.

BACKGROUND: In cases of irreparable subscapularis (SSC) tendon tear in young and active patients, tendon transfers stand as the only surgical option. With a posterior-inferior-medial line of action and a synergistic action with the SSC muscle, the latissimus dorsi (LD) muscle appears to be the most adequate option. INDICATIONS: Indications include symptomatic and irreparable Lafosse type-IV or type-V SSC lesions in young and active patients with preserved glenohumeral joint. TECHNIQUE DESCRIPTION: With the patient in the supine position under general anesthesia, a deltopectoral approach is u

Sickle cell bone disease and response to intravenous bisphosphonates in children.

UNLABELLED: Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) have the potential for extensive and early-onset bone morbidity. This study reports on the diversity of bone morbidity seen in children with SCD followed at three tertiary centers. IV bisphosphonates were effective for bone pain analgesia and did not trigger sickle cell complications. INTRODUCTION: To evaluate bone morbidity and the response to intravenous (IV) bisphosphonate therapy in children with SCD. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of patient records from 2003 to 2019 at three Canadian pediatric tertiary care centers. Radi

Comparison between single and double suture passing techniques in the suture bridge rotator cuff repair with a 2-mm tape: A simulation study using a three-dimensional finite element method.

BACKGROUND: Suture bridge repair has been widely used as one of the standard procedures in the arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. We compared the intratendinous stress distribution between single and double suture passing techniques in the suture bridge repair using a 2-mm tape and clarified the roles of tensioning in this procedure. METHODS: A board-like model of the supraspinatus tendon and humeral head was used in order to standardize conditions and exclude the influence of anatomical variations between individuals. Reattachment of the supraspinatus tendon to the bone was simulated using bo…

BACKGROUND: The patients with shoulder instability or disorders in overhead athletes have been considered to have an abnormal micromotion at … rformed active axial rotations at 0°, 90°, 135°, and maximal abduction angles. The positions of the humeral head center relative to the glenoid at maximally external, neutral, and maximally internal rotations (ER, NR, IR, respectively) for each abduction angle were evaluated using two- (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) shape matching registration techniques. This compression can cause pain and other symptoms such as snapping, catching, mobility restriction, pitching, clicking, locking, blockage, popping and swelling. Lesser tuberosity cysts and their relationship with subscapularis tears and subcoracoid impingement.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to evaluate cysts in the lesser tuberosity of humeral head seen on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and their relationship with subcoracoid impingement and subscapularis tears evident on arthroscopic surgery videos. Our hypothesis was that the cysts would be more frequent with subscapularis tears and in the case of subcoracoid impingement. METHODS: Patients who underwent shoulder arthroscopy between January 2010 and January 2016 were retrieved to evaluate subscapularis tears on surgery videos and lesser tuberosity cysts (LTC), coracohumeral distances (CHD) on both sagitta…

Prospective randomised comparison of arthroscopic versus mini-open rotator cuff repair of the supraspinatus tendon.
