Tampons have been associated with toxic shock syndrome, a newly-recognized disease which attacks women of menstrual age and has caused at least 84 deaths so far. A study of the medical literature since 1933, when tampons were first put on the market, reveals warning of possible dangers as a foreign body, as an irritant, as a carrier of bacteria. Today more health professionals are aware of the dangers of tampon use, but they have not yet applied this knowledge to diseases other than TSS. We believe this should be done. Although it is now widely recognized that the inflammatory response to implant wear particles plays an important role in aseptic loosening of total joint replacements, the precise mechanisms of this process remain unclear. The aim of this study was to establish an animal model for the study of the adverse response to particulate wear debris and the effects on the synovial microcirculation as well as the leukocyte-endothelial cell interaction in the murine knee joint in vivo. A new synthetic absorbable suture, a copolymer of two simple hydroxy acids, glycolic acid and lactic acid, was evaluated in a laboratory and clinical study for its usefulness in ophthalmic surgery. This study is a case report on a 49-year-old woman who had a gastrectomy and lymphadenectomy for pStage IIIa gastric cancer. Shortly after a 12-month course of adjuvant chemotherapy, CT showed a nodule adjacent to the gallbladder. High (18) F-fluorodeoxyglucose accumulation was detected, with a standardized uptake value of 10. Therefore, laparoscopic excision was performed for diagnosis and treatment.
