Chemovoltaic effect for renewable liquid and vapor fuels on semiconductor surfaces.

The chemovoltaic effect - generation of electronic excitation by exergonic redox reactions - has been observed on metallic surfaces of Schottky junctions and is proving to be pivotal in explaining in detail the momentum conservation relations of chemically active collisions. As shown in this work, it can hold keys for direct chemical energy harvesting by semiconductor solar cells. To study the possibilities of chemovoltaic energy conversion by semiconductors, we have modeled and designed an 'electrolyte-free fuel cell' formed by a GaAs diode that can host electrochemical fuel oxidation and oxi

Decorating CoP and Pt Nanoparticles on Graphitic Carbon Nitride Nanosheets to Promote Overall Water Splitting by Conjugated Polymers.

The splitting of water into H2 and O2 using solar energy is one of the key steps in artificial photosynthesis for the future production of renewable energy. Here, we show the first use of CoP and Pt nanoparticles as dual co-catalysts to modify graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3 N4 ) polymer to achieve overall water splitting under visible light irradiation. Our findings demonstrate that loading dual co-catalysts on delaminated g-C3 N4 imparts surface redox sites on the g-C3 N4 nanosheets that can not only promote catalytic kinetics but also promote charge separation and migration in the soft inter

Boosting prairie dog optimizer for optimal planning of multiple wind turbine and photovoltaic distributed generators in distribution networks considering different dynamic load models.

Deploying distributed generators (DGs) supplied by renewable energy resources poses a significant challenge for efficient power grid operation. The proper sizing and placement of DGs, specifically photovoltaics (PVs) and wind turbines (WTs), remain crucial due to the uncertain characteristics of renewable energy. To overcome these challenges, this study explores an enhanced version of a meta-heuristic technique called the prairie dog optimizer (PDO). The modified prairie dogs optimizer (mPDO) incorporates a novel exploration phase inspired by the slime mold algorithm (SMA) food approach. The m

Turning Waste into Value: Technoeconomic Analysis and Life Cycle Assessment of Biodiesel-Derived Crude Glycerol Electrooxidation.

The U.S. biodiesel industry faces significant economic challenges, exacerbated by declining glycerol coproduct values and rising feedstock costs and leading to numerous plant closures. In this study, we investigate the technoeconomic and environmental viability of electrochemically upcycling low-value industrial-grade crude glycerol (50 wt % glycerol) and methanol-depleted crude glycerol (80 wt % glycerol) into formic acid, a valuable chemical commodity. Through process modeling, we assess purification processes and electrochemical oxidation pathways for these waste glycerol streams. Our findi

Production of Bioethanol from Artocarpus Integer (Chempedak) Peel: An Approach Towards Clean Technology.

This research focuses on a sustainable way to reduce waste and generate renewable energy by converting Chempedak bio-waste into bioethanol. It undergoes several phases: feedstock collection and pretreatment (mechanical, acid and alkaline pretreatment), hydrolysis, fermentation, and distillation. The main goal of this project is to yield ethanol from 300 g Chempedak peel waste by using a functioning and cost-effective way. When processing the project, the distillation process was then changed to ethanol evaporation which used a rotary evaporator to extract the ethanol, as it is more effective.

Hydrogen Evolution Reactions of Hydrocarbons and Hydroborons Promoted by Superatomic Nbn- Clusters.

Hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) are crucial for producing renewable and ecological hydrogen energy. Here we report the finding that ethyl acetylene (C2H2), borane (B2H6), and benzene (C6H6) undergo drastic dehydrogenation reactions upon interaction with niobium cluster anions (Nbn-). This finding was enabled by our very sensitive and specialized mass spectrometer, which monitored the cluster ions and the resulting metal carbide and boride products in real time. Through mass spectrometry experiments and density functional theory computations, we delved into the varying reactivities of these

Does the implementation of economic policies connected to climate change depend on monetary policy mandates and financial stability governance structures?

The objective of the proposed research study is to examine how the economic policy mandates and governance frameworks of central banks affect the implementation of climate-related economic measures. Empirical evidence supports a positive correlation between the adoption of climate-related economic policies and a broader mandate for monetary policy. The existing body of research contradicts the idea that an enhanced framework for governing economic stability will result in higher implementation of financial measures related to climate change. The study, which focuses on China from 2015 to 2023,
