BACKGROUND: Nevus of Ota can be effectively and safely treated since the arrival of q-switched lasers in dermatology. However, available literature is scarce regarding the treatment of Nevus of Ota in skin types darker than IV.

The objective of this study was to assess the availability of pre-prepared equipment for needle cricothyroidotomy, and the knowledge of staff in its use in Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments in Great Britain. The volume response of vestibular dark cells of the gerbil to a hyposmotic challenge was investigated. By using surgical materials obtained from 7 cases of vestibular schwannoma, the ultrastructure of melanocytes in the dark cell area of human vestibular organs was examined by light microscopy and electron microscopy. Dark adaptation before and after exposure to bright light was investigated in a total of 129 aphakic and phakic eyes. Aphakic patients whose vision had been corrected with spectacles, contact lenses and intraocular implants were compared with phakic controls. Eyes with implants compared favorably with other optical correction systems; the rapidity of dark adaptation, however, was delayed in pseudophakia after exposure to bright light.
