Analyzed were 1999 courses of treatment in 212 patients with paroxysmal and paranoid schizophrenia. Twelve groups of side-effects were defined according to syndromal and structural principles. Compared to the uncomplicated schizophrenic patients, the ones with organic cerebral insufficiency had higher sensitivity to psychopharmacologic drug therapy. The number of untoward effects per one course of treatment in organically deficient patients was 1.5 times higher than that of the control group. Free amino acid content was measured in the blood serum in patients with permanently progressive paranoid schizophrenia under conventional insulin shock therapy. The influence of several amino acids (methionine, glutamic acid) preinjection on their base levels was also assessed. Metabolic response to the insulin coma was different in preinjected vs. control groups. Glutamine acid-preinjected patients displayed less pronounced shifts in amino acid reserves in the blood serum that smoothed the shock-related metabolic stress in these patients as related to conventional shock.

In a total of 152 cases of severe cerebral infarction intravascular infusion of plasma substitutes was a part of combined therapy. Hemostasis studies in these patients allowed us to detect various degrees of hypercoagulation as a response to hemodilution. Conventional approaches to the treatment of stammering were judged ineffective in terms of both the percentage of patients cured and the relapses rate. Application of the new devices, e.g., biofeedback ones, combined with the conventional techniques only fairly improved the situation. A new combined technique is offered. It derives from a neurophysiological approach allowing one to destabilize the pathological speech pattern and create prerequisites for a quick learning (10 to 20 days) of the logopedical skills. A high-sensitive "immune" proserine++ test was developed for the early detection of myasthenia, especially of its concealed and unclear forms. The results are derived from counting Ach-ROK immune to blood acetylcholine (Ach) before and 30 min after subcutaneous proserin administration. A high (over 10%) baseline Ach-ROK blood count which fell sharply after proserin injection was characteristic of myasthenia patients as compared to controls (under 10%). The reverse was found in healthy individuals and patients with other nervous diseases: an increase of ROK up to 24-39%.

Hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) was used for the treatment of 64 patients suffering from parkinsonism of different etiology. HBO sessions were provided daily, 8-12 per course, the treatment pressure amounted to 1.3-2 atm exposure to 40-60 minutes. The beneficial effect was marked in 55 patients. The results of the treatment turned out better in vascular parkinsonism, in patients under 65 years, with a disease standing of 1-5 years. The akineticorigid syndrome regressed to a greater degree, whereas in trembling hyperkinesis, HBO turned out to be less potent.
