Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is considered a contraindication for the implantation of presbyopia-correcting IOLs, without sufficient corroborating evidence. A Retrospective, case-control study. Nineteen eyes of ten patients with grade 2-5 FECD (study group) and 57 healthy eyes of 57 patients (control group) who underwent cataract surgery with implantation of presbyopia-correcting IOLs, at the Ein-Tal Eye Center, Tel Aviv, Israel, were included. The target refraction was emmetropia for both groups. Two subgroups of IOLs were analyzed separately: extended depth of focus (EDOF), (9

The studies for astigmatism prediction error at different diameters using optical biometry are scant. We investigated patients who underwent cataract surgery with monofocal, nontoric intraocular lens (IOL) from 2017 through 2019 in a medical center. Patients with prior refractive surgeries, corneal opacity, or surgical complications were excluded. Corneal astigmatism (CA) was measured using AL-Scan at 2.4- and 3.3-mm diameter zones and calculated using the Barrett toric calculator preoperatively and postoperatively. The mean absolute error and centroid prediction error for the two zones were c

PURPOSE: Calculating the intraocular lens (IOL) power in short eyes for cataract surgery has been a challenge. A meta-analysis was conducted to identify, among several classic and new IOL power calculation formulae, which obtains the best accuracy.
METHODS: All studies aiming at comparing the accuracy of IOL power calculation formulae in short eyes were searched up in the databases of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and the Cochrane library from Jan. 2011 to Mar. 2021. Primary outcomes were the percentages of eyes with a refractive prediction error in ± 0.25D, ± 0.5D and ± 1.0D.
RESULTS: Tota

INTRODUCTION: Primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) has a high prevalence and blinding rate across Asia. The first-line treatment of PACG is surgery, and phacotrabeculectomy remains the mainstream surgery for advanced PACG. However, it may cause vision-threatening complications with long learning curve. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery has been gradually used in PACG combined with cataract surgery and achieved efficacy without excessive injury, of which goniotomy is the most commonly performed. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a multicentre, non-inferiority randomised controlled clini

A 36-year-old highly myopic woman was referred for management of both cataract and glaucoma. Her ocular history included retinal detachment repair in each eye, 9 years earlier in the right eye and 7 years earlier in the left eye. Although the patient did not remember specific details of the retinal surgery, she recalled that she had a "gas bubble" postoperatively in the right eye, but not the left eye. She also had a very dense nuclear cataract in the right eye, but only mild nuclear sclerosis in the left eye.At presentation, the patient's corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was 20/125 in

CLINICAL CASE: A 63-year-old man presents with late hypotony maculopathy after non-penetrating deep sclerectomy. Hypotonia and visual acuity are improved after transconjunctival suturing of the scleral flap.
DISCUSSION: Hypotony maculopathy may occur as a late complication after glaucoma surgery. Transconjunctival suturing of the scleral flap can be useful when conservative measures have failed.

Ocular trauma can lead to severe visual impairment and morbidity, depending on the anatomical structures affected. The main causes of ocular trauma include foreign bodies, impact by an object, falls, and chemicals. Most ocular traumas occur in children or young male adults. A meticulous slit lamp examination is crucial for assessing all anatomical structures. Trauma to the crystalline lens can result in dislocation, an intralenticular foreign body, cataract, fragmentation, and capsular breach. An intraocular lens (IOL) can endure subluxation or luxation under the conjunctiva, into the anterior

PURPOSE: To analyze the optical performance of different implant strategies in simulated nanophthalmic eyes.
METHODS: An optical design software was used. Analysis included eye models that required 30.00, 45.00, and 60.00 diopters (D) intraocular lenses (IOLs) to achieve emmetropia. Spherical and aspheric IOLs were designed. They were tested either with a single implant setting S or by splitting the power into two lenses. Setting P1 had an even split of the power between the lenses and setting P2 had an uneven power split with one-third of the power in the anterior lens and two-thirds in the
