The corneal epithelium, located as the outermost layer of the cornea, is inherently susceptible to injuries that may lead to corneal opacities and compromise visual acuity. Rapid restoration of corneal epithelial injury is crucial for maintaining the transparency and integrity of the cornea. Cell spray treatment emerges as an innovative and effective approach in the field of regenerative medicine. In our study, a cell spray printing platform was established, and the optimal printing parameters were determined to be a printing air pressure of 5 PSI (34.47 kPa) and a liquid flow rate of 30 ml/h.

Anatomical 3D-printed nasal casts are valuable models to investigate intranasal drug deposition, providing preclinical data that cannot be obtained in animal models. However, these models are limited since they are often derived from a single patient or represent a mean of several groups. The present study aimed to better characterize the anatomical differences of the nasal cavity in a European sub-population and to assess the potential impact of anatomical variations on intranasal deposition by medical devices. Ninety-eight cranial computed tomography scans of patients were selected and analy

The use of 3D-printed gene-activated bone grafts represents a highly promising approach in the fields of dentistry and orthopedics. Bioresorbable poly-lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) scaffolds, infused with adenoviral constructs that carry osteoinductive factor genes, may provide an effective alternative to existing bone grafts for the reconstruction of extensive bone defects. This study aims to develop and investigate the properties of 3D scaffolds composed of PLGA and adenoviral constructs carrying the BMP2 gene (Ad-BMP2), both in vitro and in vivo. The elastic modulus of the disk-shaped PLGA

Percutaneous catheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is difficult when the ductus is large and long or shows calcification. We created a patient-specific 3-dimensional (3D) model for PDA, with which we simulated device deployment, thereby selecting the device/size in a patient-by-patient manner. We assessed whether this 3D model is effective for catheter PDA closure. The 3D model was created in this institute, requiring 3 days and 90 US dollars. After its introduction, 7 consecutive patients (the study group) with severe PDA underwent closure with the aid of the 3D model. The control

Virtual surgical planning (VSP), computer-aided design and computer-aided modeling, and 3-dimensional printing are 3 distinct technologies that have become increasingly employed in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction. Although each of these technologies have long been utilized for treatment planning in other surgical disciplines such as craniofacial surgery, trauma surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, and orthognathic surgery, its widespread use in head and neck reconstructive surgery remains a much more recent advent. In response to the growing trend of VSP being used

INTRODUCTION: Deep facial burns leave conspicuous scar to the patients and affect their quality of life. Transparent facemask has been adopted for the prevention and treatment of facial hypertrophic scars for decades. Recently, with the advancement of 3D printing, the transparent facemask could facilitate the fitting of the facial contour. However, the effectiveness of the device and its biomechanical characteristics on pressure management of hypertrophic scar would need more objective evaluation.
METHOD: A biomechanical model of the transparent 3D-printed facemask was established through fin

Numerous oral and maxillofacial procedures in dentate patients begin with the fixation of occlusions. While several techniques exist to perform mandibulo-maxillary fixation, many surgeons use arch bars in common practice. In cases of severe craniofacial traumas or jaw malformations, such as temporomandibular joint ankylosis, it may be impossible to use rigid arch bars. This technical note reports on the development of a technique to produce pre-shaped rigid arch bars using 3D printing technology. We take the case of a patient who presents Le Fort 1, Le Fort 2 and Le Fort 3 fractures as well as

An integrated nitric oxide (NO) sensor was developed based on a three-dimensional cell culture system. The anti-inflammatory activity of capsaicin was evaluated by monitoring NO levels in the supernatant under three operational modes, where lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced NO production in cells, and capsaicin suppressed this production. The sensor employs methacryloylated gelatin hydrogel to encapsulate RAW264.7 cells, which serve as the bioactive component, and incorporates an ionic liquid film/antimony tetroxide/reduced graphene oxide (DDAB-RTIL/Sb₂O₄/rGO) onto a screen-printed carbon elect

The growing demand for functional foods and personalized nutrition has increased interest in three-dimensional printing (3DP) as a technology for developing customized food products. Jostaberry (Ribes × nidigrolaria), a fruit rich in antioxidant compounds, has rarely been explored in 3DP food applications. This study evaluated the suitability of jostaberry for producing 3DP snacks and investigated the effects of starch type (corn or wheat) and storage (12 days/4 °C) on physicochemical properties, bioactive compounds, antioxidant capacity, and microbiological stability. Both starch type and sto

Injectable cryogels have emerged as a transformative class of biomaterials that combine macroporosity, mechanical resilience, and shape-memory properties to enable minimally invasive therapeutic delivery. Unlike conventional hydrogels, cryogels are fabricated through cryogelation-a sub-zero polymerization process that generates interconnected macropores through ice crystal templating-endowing them with sponge-like elasticity and the ability to withstand extreme compression and recover their original architecture upon injection. Over the past decade, injectable cryogels have evolved from simple
