Microfluidic 3D-printed MSC-laden bioactive hydrogel for intrauterine adhesion prevention and endometrial regeneration.

Increasing occurrence of intrauterine adhesion (IUA) is a serious threat to the reproductive health of women in recent years. However, treatment options remain limited. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-based therapies have shown a promising regenerative capacity of injured endometrium but have limited effectiveness by the low survival duration of transplanted cells. Herein, we present a bioactive hydrogel scaffold loaded with adipose tissue-derived MSC (AT-MSC) by using a three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting technology, which combines the characteristics of the synthetic thermos-responsive material P

Tetralogy of Fallot With Pulmonary Atresia and Major Aortopulmonary Collateral Arteries: Diagnostic Modalities-The Role of Computed Tomography, Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Three-Dimensional Modeling.

Cross-sectional imaging modalities facilitate the noninvasive acquisition of anatomic and hemodynamic data in patients with congenital heart disease. This is critical in patients with tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (TOF PA MAPCAs), who typically undergo multiple surgeries and interventional catheterizations over the course of their lifetime. Advances in cardiac computed tomography (CT) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) have enabled increased spatial resolution imaging and decreased scan times. High spatial resolution datasets

Measurement of Nasal Obstruction: Rhinomanometry as Basic Method in Functional Rhinology.

Measuring nasal obstruction should be mandatory before every nasal surgery to determine the necessary surgical steps and to separate mucosal congestion from skeletal deformity. Rhinomanometry is considered the "golden standard" for measuring nasal airway resistance. An extension of the diagnostic power was achieved by the introduction of the four-phase rhinomanometry (4PR), which provides additional information about the influence of the elasticity of the nasal wall. Also, a high correlation to the subjective sensing of obstruction could be achieved by the introduction of logarithmic parameter

Creation of Dimicleft radiological cleft phantom skulls using reversed virtual planning technique.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this technical report was to develop customized pediatric phantoms for cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-related research in cleft patients. METHODS: Six human pediatric skulls (age: 5-10 years) were recruited. A cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan was taken for each skull, followed by virtual modeling through the process of segmentation. An artificial cleft was designed and printed to be applied onto the skull for the creation of an artificial cleft. The skulls were covered with non-radiopaque tape and immersed in melted Mix-D soft tissue equivalent material.

Spina bifida occulta with the persistent spinous process in living: A three-dimensionally reconstructed sacrum from computed tomographic imaging.

BACKGROUND: Here we aim to report the persistent spinous process in the 'pan sacral type' of spina bifida occulta in an asymptomatic male and discuss its clinical significance. The presence of this type of dorsal wall defect with a bony spur attached to it has never been described in the literature to the best of our knowledge after extensive literature search. Our work presents the first anatomic description where the spinous and paraspinous cleft are seen in a sacrum of a live subject. CASE REPORT: During a morphometric study of the sacra, normal subject computed tomography imaging (CT) was

A bioengineered trachea-like structure improves survival in a rabbit tracheal defect model.

A practical strategy for engineering a trachea-like structure that could be used to repair or replace a damaged or injured trachea is an unmet need. Here, we fabricated bioengineered cartilage (BC) rings from three-dimensionally printed fibers of poly(ɛ-caprolactone) (PCL) and rabbit chondrocytes. The extracellular matrix (ECM) secreted by the chondrocytes combined with the PCL fibers formed a "concrete-rebar structure," with ECM deposited along the PCL fibers, forming a grid similar to that of native cartilage. PCL fiber-hydrogel rings were then fabricated and alternately stacked with BC ring

Prosthetically guided mandibular reconstruction using a fibula free flap: three-dimensional Bologna plate, an alternative to the double-barrel technique.

The fibula free flap represents the gold standard for mandibular reconstruction. However, when harvested as a single barrel, this flap does not allow the native mandibular height to be restored, which is required for implant-supported dental rehabilitation of the patient. The aim of this study was to present a new design for a patient-specific three-dimensionally printed reconstructive plate (3DBO-PSI) that positions the fibula bone at the height of the resected mandibular alveolar bone while restoring the mandibular profile to ensure a correct morphological outcome. Twenty patients were enrol

Computer-guided contouring of craniofacial fibrous dysplasia involving the zygoma using a patient-specific surgical depth guide.

The aim of this study was to introduce a new computer-guided technique for contouring and shaving of craniofacial fibrous dysplasia involving the zygoma. Computer-guided contouring was performed for five patients with unilateral craniofacial fibrous dysplasia involving the zygoma, using a patient-specific surgical depth guide. This patient-specific guide with depth holes was virtually designed for each patient based on mirroring of the unaffected side. The guide was printed using rapid prototyping. In the surgical theatre, the guide was seated in place and implant drills were inserted through

Shear Bond Strength of Simulated Single-Retainer Resin-Bonded Bridges Made of Four CAD/CAM Materials for Maxillary Lateral Incisor Agenesis Rehabilitation.

OBJECTIVES: Maxillary lateral incisor agenesis (MLIA), treated orthodontically by space opening, requires complimentary aesthetic rehabilitation. Resin-bonded bridges (RBBs) can be equated as interim rehabilitation until skeletal maturity is achieved to place an implant-supported crown or as definitive rehabilitation in case of financial restrictions or implant contraindications. Scientific evidence of the best material must be confirmed in specific clinical situations. Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) materials are promising versatile restorative options. This

Revitalizing bioinert PCL: A biomimetic 3D-Printed gradient-pore scaffold with CSMA hydrogel-mediated BMP-2/QK delivery for vascularized bone regeneration.

Critical-sized bone defects exceed bone's regenerative capacity and require space-maintaining implants that support vascular and bone-tissue ingrowth. Three-dimensional (3D)-printed polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds are widely investigated for bone repair owing to controllable geometry, interconnected macropores, and structural stability. However, uniform-pore designs cannot recapitulate heterogeneous bone porosity, while hydrophobic PCL has limited bioactivity. Inspired by the transition from dense cortical to porous cancellous bone, we designed a stepwise gradient-pore PCL framework combining

Fabrication and characterization of bioprints with Lactobacillus crispatus for vaginal application.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is characterized by low levels of lactobacilli and overgrowth of potential pathogens in the female genital tract. Current antibiotic treatments often fail to treat BV in a sustained manner, and > 50% of women experience recurrence within 6 months post-treatment. Recently, lactobacilli have shown promise for acting as probiotics by offering health benefits in BV. However, as with other active agents, probiotics often require intensive administration schedules incurring difficult user adherence. Three-dimensional (3D)-bioprinting enables fabrication of well-defined archi

Late-presenting acetabular fractures: Strategic principles, decision-making, and management.

Acetabular fractures occur after high-energy injuries and are often challenging for the treating orthopedic surgeon because of the complexity of the fracture pattern and associated injuries. Timing of surgery is very important and has a direct impact on the outcome. However, in developing countries, lack of infrastructure, limited access to trained pelvic surgeons, delayed referral, and associated life-threatening injuries can result in delay in definitive management. Hence, delayed presentation of acetabular fractures is a major concern when aiming for optimal outcomes. By around three weeks,

Preparation and characterization of different micro/nano structures on the surface of bredigite scaffolds.

The preparation of controllable micro/nano structures on the surface of the bredigite scaffold is expected to exhibit the same support and osteoconductive capabilities as living bone. However, the hydrophobicity of the white calciμm silicate scaffold surface restricts the adhesion and spreading of osteoblasts. Furthermore, during the degradation process of the bredigite scaffold, the release of Ca2+ results in an alkaline environment around the scaffold, which inhibits the growth of osteoblasts. In this study, the three-dimensional geometry of the Primitive surface in the three-periodic minima
