Evaluation of a 3D-Printed Reduction Guide for Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis of Short Oblique Radial Diaphyseal Fracture in Dogs: A Cadaveric Study.

This study aims to evaluate the clinical application of three-dimensional (3D)-printed custom reduction guides (3DRG) for minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) of short oblique radial diaphyseal fractures. Canine forelimb specimens (n = 24) were prepared and a diaphyseal short oblique fracture was simulated in the distal radius and ulna. Bone fragments were stabilized with the MIPO technique using a 3DRG (Group A), open reduction (Group B), or closed reduction with circular external skeletal fixation (ESF) (Group C). The diaphyseal short oblique fractures were created in each radius a

In Vitro Assessment of Coronary Perfusion after Valve-in-Valve Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in a High-Risk Patient-Specific Experimental Model.

Coronary obstruction following transcatheter aortic valve-in-valve implantation (VIV-TAVI) carries a high mortality risk. This in-vitro study assessed coronary perfusion in a high-risk VIV-TAVI scenario. A patient deemed at high-risk and treated with preventive Chimney stenting was selected as case study. A 3D-printed aortic root model was fabricated from pre-operative imaging and used to replicate the patient's VIV-TAVI setting. A CoreValve-Evolut-23 was implanted within a Trifecta-19 at five depths, with commissural alignment and 60° misalignment, to explore procedural variability and associ

3D-printed bioactive scaffolds with alginate hydrogel and stromal vascular fraction differentiated into osteoblasts applied to bone repair.

Bone injuries present enormous medical challenges worldwide. Most scaffolds used in tissue engineering do not possess an appropriate combination of properties inherent to bone tissue, such as elasticity, rigidity, biocompatibility, osteoinductivity, and antimicrobial properties. In this study, we constructed a bioprinted scaffold using polycaprolactone (PCL), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and alginate cellular carrier hydrogels. This scaffold is associated with the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), a heterogeneous cell population rich in adipose-derived stem cells and contains osteogenic different

Nanoengineered 3D-printing scaffolds prepared by metal-coordination self-assembly for hyperthermia-catalytic osteosarcoma therapy and bone regeneration.

The integration of functional nanomaterials with tissue engineering scaffolds has emerged as a promising solution for simultaneously treating malignant bone tumors and repairing resected bone defects. However, achieving a uniform bioactive interface on 3D-printing polymer scaffolds with minimized microstructural heterogeneity remains a challenge. In this study, we report a facile metal-coordination self-assembly strategy for the surface engineering of 3D-printed polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds with nanostructured two-dimensional conjugated metal-organic frameworks (cMOFs) consisting of Cu ion

Utilization of patterned bioprinting for heterogeneous and physiologically representative reconstructed epidermal skin models.

Organotypic skin tissue models have decades of use for basic research applications, the treatment of burns, and for efficacy/safety evaluation studies. The complex and heterogeneous nature of native human skin however creates difficulties for the construction of physiologically comparable organotypic models. Within the present study, we utilized bioprinting technology for the controlled deposition of separate keratinocyte subpopulations to create a reconstructed epidermis with two distinct halves in a single insert, each comprised of a different keratinocyte sub-population, in order to better

An interstitial fluid-like NICHE-chip for neural stem cell niche modeling and nanoscale neurotrophic delivery.

Neural stem cells (NSCs) reside in anatomically confined niches, where three-dimensional (3D) geometry and interstitial fluid (ISF) flow collectively regulate NSC behavior. However, in vitro platforms that simultaneously recapitulate size-controlled 3D architecture, ISF-like dynamics, and nanoscale therapeutic delivery remain limited. Here, we present a 3D printing-based platform with multi-sized microwells, termed the Neural-Inspired Culture for a Hydrodynamic Environment (NICHE)-chip, which incorporates an osmosis-driven flow system to generate ISF-like flow. The NICHE-chip enabled stable fo

Screening of electrospun PS/PCL scaffolds for three-dimensional triple negative breast cancer cell culture: impact of solvent, hydrophobicity, and setup orientation.

Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) presents a significant challenge due to its aggressiveness and lack of targeted therapies. Understanding the interaction between TNBC cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM) in three-dimensional (3D) culture systems is vital for developing accurate in vitro models. This study explores the impact of electrospinning setup orientation, solvent selection, and polymer composition on scaffold design and TNBC cell culture. Various polystyrene (PS) and poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) combinations were electrospun using different solvent combinations (dichloromethane/dim

Microfluidic sorting and multimodal typing of cancer cells in self-assembled magnetic arrays.

We propose a unique method for cell sorting, "Ephesia," using columns of biofunctionalized superparamagnetic beads self-assembled in a microfluidic channel onto an array of magnetic traps prepared by microcontact printing. It combines the advantages of microfluidic cell sorting, notably the application of a well controlled, flow-activated interaction between cells and beads, and those of immunomagnetic sorting, notably the use of batch-prepared, well characterized antibody-bearing beads. On cell lines mixtures, we demonstrated a capture yield better than 94%, and the possibility to cultivate i

Bacteriophage-cocktail hydrogel dressing to prevent multiple bacterial infections and heal diabetic ulcers in mice.

Bacteriophage (phage) has been reported to reduce the bacterial infection in delayed-healing wounds and, as a result, aiding in the healing of said wounds. In this study we investigated whether the presence of phage itself could help repair delayed-healing wounds in diabetic mice. Three strains of phage that target Salmonella enterica, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were used. To prevent the phage liquid from running off the wound, the mixture of phage (phage-cocktail) was encapsulated in a porous hydrogel dressing made with three-dimensional printing. The phage-cocktail dressing

LncRNA-GAS5 promotes spinal cord repair and the inhibition of neuronal apoptosis via the transplantation of 3D printed scaffold loaded with induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neural stem cells.

BACKGROUND: Stem cell transplantation has been increasingly used for spinal cord repair, and some achievements have been made. However, limited stem cell sources as well as immune rejection and ethical issues have restricted its wide application. Therefore, to achieve further breakthroughs regarding the application of stem cell transplantation to treat spinal cord injury (SCI), it is important to develop a stem cell line that can effectively avoid immune rejection and ethical issues. METHODS: Urine cells (UCs) were induced to differentiate into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which th

3D-bioprinted mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes reprogram macrophages via PI3K/AKT to accelerate nerve regeneration.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) regeneration involves complex immunoregulatory mechanisms, particularly M2 macrophage‑mediated immunomodulation. Promoting macrophage polarization toward the M2 phenotype represents a potential therapeutic strategy. Exosomes can create favorable microenvironments for tissue regeneration, but their clinical application is often limited by low concentration and purity. Three‑dimensional‑bioprinted exosomes (3D‑Exos) have recently gained attention due to their enhanced concentration and purity. METHODS: In this study, 3D‑Exos were applied to treat PNI. Th

Novel 3D Printed Device for Dual-Signaling Ratiometric Photoelectrochemical Readout of Biomarker Using λ-Exonuclease-Assisted Recycling Amplification.

A ratiometric photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing strategy was proposed for monitoring of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) based on a homemade 3D printing device with dual-working photoelectrodes (PE1 and PE2), coupling λ-exonuclease (λ-Exo)-assisted recycling amplification with CdS quantum dots. Gold nanoparticles-functionalized ZnO nanorods were utilized as PEC substrate for generating initial photocurrent and immobilizing DNA probe. Upon incubation of target with DNA trigger/CEA aptamer-modified magnetic bead (tri/apt-MB), DNA trigger dissociated from magnetic bead and then hybridized with cap

3D printing scaffold coupled with low level light therapy for neural tissue regeneration.

3D printing has shown promise for neural regeneration by providing customized nerve scaffolds to structurally support and bridge the defect gap as well as deliver cells or various bioactive substances. Low-level light therapy (LLLT) exhibits positive effects on rehabiliation of degenerative nerves and neural disorders. With this in mind, we postulate that 3D printed neural scaffold coupling with LLLT will generate a new strategy to repair neural degeneration. To achieve this goal, we applied red laser light to stimualte neural stem cells on 3D printed scaffolds and investigated the subsequent
