A wearable and wireless electrochemical device based on Cu-BTC MOF for pyocyanin detection and wound healing.

The prevalent and serious antimicrobial resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) infections has emerged as a critical public health challenge worldwide. Pyocyanin (PYO), an important virulence component produced by PA, is considered as an ideal indicator for identifying infections linked to this pathogen. This study evaluated ten metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as signal amplifiers for the sensitive detection of PYO. The findings reveal that electrodes modified with Cu-MOFs exhibited a notable enhancement in current for PYO reduction. Particularly, Cu-1,3,5-benzene tricarboxylic acid (Cu-BTC)

Large Buffering Effect of the Duodenal Bulb in Duodenal Switch: a Wireless pH-Metric Study.

INTRODUCTION: Bariatric procedures result in massive weight loss, however, not without side effects. Gastric acid is known to cause marginal ulcers, situated in the small bowel just distal to the upper anastomosis. We have used the wireless BRAVO™ system to study the buffering effect of the duodenal bulb in duodenal switch (DS), a procedure in which the gastric sleeve produces a substantial amount of acid. METHODS: We placed a pre- and a postpyloric pH capsule in 15 DS-patients (seven men, 44 years, BMI 33) under endoscopic guidance and verified the correct location by fluoroscopy. Patients w

Minimizing Stimulus Current in a Wearable Pudendal Nerve Stimulator Using Computational Models.

After spinal cord injury, functions of the lower urinary tract may be disrupted. A wearable device with surface electrodes which can effectively control the bladder functions would be highly beneficial to the patients. A trans-rectal pudendal nerve stimulator may provide such a solution. However, the major limiting factor in such a stimulator is the high level of current it requires to recruit the nerve fibers. Also, the variability of the trajectory of the nerve in different individuals should be considered. Using computational models and an approximate trajectory of the nerve derived from an

A comprehensive review of EEG-based brain-computer interface paradigms.

Advances in brain science and computer technology in the past decade have led to exciting developments in brain-computer interface (BCI), thereby making BCI a top research area in applied science. The renaissance of BCI opens new methods of neurorehabilitation for physically disabled people (e.g. paralyzed patients and amputees) and patients with brain injuries (e.g. stroke patients). Recent technological advances such as wireless recording, machine learning analysis, and real-time temporal resolution have increased interest in electroencephalographic (EEG) based BCI approaches. Many BCI studi

Rotating Gate-Driven Solution-Processed Triboelectric Transistors.

Among various energy harvesting technologies, triboelectricity is an epoch-making discovery that can convert energy loss caused by the mechanical vibration or friction of parts into energy gain. As human convenience has emerged as an important future value, wireless devices have attracted widespread attention; thus, it is essential to extend the duration and lifespan of batteries through energy harvesting or the application of self-powered equipment. Here, we report a transistor, in which the gate rotates and rubs against the dielectric and utilizes the triboelectricity generated rather than t

Wearable Sensing Devices for Continuous Animal Health Monitoring.

Continuous, noninvasive animal health monitoring systems are increasingly required in livestock farming, companion animal care, and wildlife conservation. The translation of wearable sensing technologies across these sectors is complicated. Their practical performance depends not only on sensing accuracy but also on the variability of anatomical features, uncontrolled movement, environmental exposure, wireless connectivity, power supply, and animal welfare considerations. This review presents a system-level, design-oriented analysis of animal health monitoring sensing technologies. It classifi

Linking clinic and home: a randomized, controlled clinical effectiveness trial of real-time, wireless blood pressure monitoring for older patients with kidney disease and hypertension.

OBJECTIVE: Older adults with chronic kidney disease have a high rate of uncontrolled hypertension. Home monitoring of blood pressure (BP) is an integral part of management, but requires that patients bring records to clinic visits. Telemonitoring interventions, however, have not targeted older, less technologically-skilled populations. METHODS: Veterans with stage 3 or greater chronic kidney disease and uncontrolled hypertension were randomized to a novel telemonitoring device pairing a Bluetooth-enabled BP cuff with an Internet-enabled hub, which wirelessly transmitted readings (n=28), or us

A Wireless, Regeneratable Cocaine Sensing Scheme Enabled by Allosteric Regulation of pH Sensitive Aptamers.

A key challenge for achieving continuous biosensing with existing technologies is the poor reusability of the biorecognition interface due to the difficulty in the dissociation of analytes from the bioreceptors upon surface saturation. In this work, we introduce a regeneratable biosensing scheme enabled by allosteric regulation of a re-engineered pH sensitive anti-cocaine aptamer. The aptamer can regain its affinity with target analytes due to proton-promoted duplex-to-triplex transition in DNA configuration followed by the release of adsorbed analytes. A Pd/PdHx electrode placed next to the s

Fully portable continuous real-time auscultation with a soft wearable stethoscope designed for automated disease diagnosis.

Modern auscultation, using digital stethoscopes, provides a better solution than conventional methods in sound recording and visualization. However, current digital stethoscopes are too bulky and nonconformal to the skin for continuous auscultation. Moreover, motion artifacts from the rigidity cause friction noise, leading to inaccurate diagnoses. Here, we report a class of technologies that offers real-time, wireless, continuous auscultation using a soft wearable system as a quantitative disease diagnosis tool for various diseases. The soft device can detect continuous cardiopulmonary sounds
