The aim is to define an alternative technique for performi … , two separate single-lumen endotracheal tubes were inserted into the main bronchus of each lung by tracheotomy; the tracheal tubes were attached to discrete ventilators. The left lung was ventilated with a lung salvage strategy using high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, and the right lung was ventilated with a lung-protective strategy using pressure-regul …

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical epidemiological features. of blast injury of lungs caused by gas explosion.
METHODS: A retrospective … uses of death were respiratory failure, shock, sepsis. Most patients with blast injury of lung need tracheotomy and mechanical ventilation. Timely tracheotomy, mechanical ventilation were the major prognostic measures.

OBJECTIVES: We compare the success of different surgical options in the treatment of laryngeal webs.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective … as required. The remaining 13 patients underwent open procedures; 9 patients in this group required tracheotomy. An average of 1.3 open airway procedures was necessary to achieve a decannulation rate of 89%. After operation, 34% of patients had residual webbing and 20% had a weak or aphonic voice.
CONCLUSIONS: Management of laryngeal webs is dependent on the …

Syndromic craniosynostosis is known to be associated with various obstructive respiratory disorders including sleep apnoea. We performed early midfacial distraction using a transfacial pinning technique in five syndromic craniosynostotic patients with obstructive respiratory disorders. Here, we report good results, indications and usefulness of this procedure. The subjects were five young children aged 7 months to 2 years who had respiratory disorders since birth due to midface hypoplasia. All subjects underwent midfacial distraction to avoid tracheotomy. The method involved Le Fort III osteot…

OBJECTIVE: To explore proper operative methods for removal of irregular shaped foreign bodies in children.
METHODS: Forty-eight emergency c … site bronchus (respiratory difficult syndrome developed in these cases); a thumbtack was removed by tracheotomy; one stone of apricot was removed through.
CONCLUSIONS: An accurate pre-operative diagnosis is most important in operative management of cases of irregular shaped foreign bodies. General anesthesia, is usually. If the foreign body is too big to pas …

Laryngocele is a unilateral or bilateral dilation of the saccule or appendix of the laryngeal ventricle. It is a benign lesion, often without any specific symptom, diagnosed unintentionally, but it can cause life-threatening airway obstruction, needing emergency tracheotomy. The authors present three cases of laryngocele and the related surgical methods. Orv Hetil. 2019; 160(31): 1235-1240.

Benign tumours of the laryngopharynx are mainly vascular tumours. Thirty two persons with the given pathology were under observation. The main clinical symptoms of the disease are the appearance of blood in the sputum, dysphonia, dyspnea of different degree. The method of choice is radical surgical intervention including tracheotomy, laryngotomy, transverse and lateral pharyngotomy, ligation of the external carotid artery.

Subglottic laryngeal cysts in the newborn are extremely rare. It is difficult to establish if the cyst is acquired or congenital because respiratory distress requires intubation in the I.C.U. generally without prior endoscopy. A case report is presented, followed by a discussion of possible aetiology and management protocol; the advantages of the CO2 laser make excision of the cystic sac possible without tracheotomy.

The case had a granulomatous tumour arising from the posterior vocal folds on the right side, and the tumour was very flexible. To promptly gain control of the airway in such a case using direct laryngoscopy, thus a …

The report presents a rare case of suffocation due to upper airways obstruction by a large mucolaryngocoele. The mechanism of death by suffocation was confirmed by histopathological examination of the lungs which showed acute lungs ectasy. Location of the laryngocoele hindered standard intubation by emergency doctor. Maybe the victim's life could have been saved by immediate conio- or tracheotomy, which in this case was not performed.

This report concerns a case of an 80-year-old man with progressive dysphagia and stridor. Patient's clinical and radiological evaluation revealed a mass of the hypopharynx and a large cervical osteophyte. Microlaryngoscopy under general anaesthesia demonstrated the presence of a hypopharynx abscess that was drained. A tracheotomy was performed in order to secure the airway, and 6 weeks later, the patient was decannulated and returned to full consistency diet.

Several imaging techniques were used to diagnose hypoplasia of the soft palate in a horse. The absence of the caudal soft palate, hypertrophied lymphoid tissue and the formation of a pseudouvula were observed endoscopically. Plain and contrast radiography were used to demonstrate a soft palate remnant and to identify structures rostral to the epiglottis. Retrograde endoscopy of the pharynx via a tracheotomy incision is described.

Tracheotomy is a clinical procedure that is often necessary though not without complications, hence the need for appropriate and timely decannulation. The inclusion of trained respiratory physiotherapists (RPT) in the staff and the use of shared protocols could help the team to manage the patient with tracheotomy cannula. The objective of this study was to describe the difference in the rate of decannulation and clinical outcomes of tracheostomized patients admitted to a NeuroIntensive Care Unit (NICU) team after the inclusion of a group of physiotherapists specialized in respiratory physiothe…
