PURPOSE: To study the effects of miR-218 on cell proliferation, apoptosis and invasion of human tongue cancer cell line SCC-4 and SCC-9 cells.
METHODS: SCC-4 and SCC-9 cells were transfected with negative control, miR-218 mimics and inhibitor, then cell proliferation was detected by MTT assay, cell cycle and cell apoptosis were measured by flow cytometry, cell invasion ability was tested by Transwell assay. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To review the current literature concerning the intravesical treatment of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer.
RECENT FINDINGS: Bladder cancer is a high prevalent disease. Despite the recognized efficacy of traditional intravesical therapies, the best treatment strategy still needs to be found. Improvement in bladder cancer research lead to develop new intravesical agents and drug delivery systems for nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer tumours. Moreover, the emerging knowledge of bladder cancer immune profile strongly improves and provides new available treatment strategies.

The root cause of cancer mortality and morbidity is the metastatic spread of the primary tumor, but underlying mechanisms remain elusive. OBJECTIVES: To study trends in Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) utilization for nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) before and during national BCG shortages.
METHODS: The National Cancer Database was used to identify patients with localized NMIBC. Multivariate logistic regression was used to assess factors associated with BCG use. Temporal trends in BCG use were studied using segmented regression analysis.

Intravesical immunotherapy with live attenuated BCG remains the standard of care for patients with high-risk and intermediate-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). We report a case of extra-adrenal retroperitoneal paraganglioma (RP) with extensive duodenal invasion and tumor thromboses both in the right testicular vein and in the inferior vena cava (IVC). Because there was rigid adherence between the RP and the abdominal aorta, pancreatoduodenectomy with replacement of the IVC and aorta was performed for complete surgical resection. In the present case, both the mode of progression of the RP and the surgical approach were extremely rare.
