Clinical features of epiretinal membranes were examined in 22 eyes of 13 patients with Terson syndrome who were treated with pars plana vitrectomy. The shape and localization of the epiretinal membranes were intraoperatively evaluated and correlated with the presence or absence of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). PURPOSE: To evaluate late complications in patients with penetrating ocular injuries caused by intraocular or intraorbital foreign bodies (IOFBs).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We reviewed 58 posttraumatic patients with IOFBs removed by external electromagnet or intraocular forceps. The patients underwent a follow-up examinations at 1 to 7 years after trauma. We noted final visual acuity, frequency and type of complications and following surgical treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the relation between retinal tears and scleral ectasia.

SETTING: University-based referral practice in Montreal.
PATIENTS: Fifty-seven consecutive patients with primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachments undergoing scleral buckling surgery. Patients with a history of trauma or previous cryotherapy, laser treatment or other vitreoretinal procedures were excluded. Fifteen patients with diabetes mellitus undergoing primary vitrectomy and prophylactic scleral buckling for nonclearing vitreous hemorrhage constituted the control group.

BACKGROUND: In severely compromised and vascularized high-risk eyes, the Boston keratoprosthesis procedure is often the last treatment option. The transparency of the optics is not impaired by endothelial immune reactions.
