Impact of a 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine on pneumococcal disease incidence among adults 65-84 years of age in Belgium: An epidemiological modeling study.

Pneumococcal disease (PD) imposes a high clinical and economic burden in Belgium. Effective multivalent vaccines are available and recommended for adults at elevated risk of PD, but do not protect against certain clinically important bacterial serotypes. In response, a new 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, PCV21, was designed to protect adults against a greater proportion of pneumococcal disease. This study estimated the impact of implementing PCV21 versus the currently recommended vaccine (PCV20) in Belgium on the incidence of invasive PD (IPD) and non-bacteremic pneumococcal pneumoni

A large-scale, longitudinal study on the epidemiology of Nosema (=Vairimorpha) ceranae and black queen cell virus (BQCV) in Apis mellifera colonies across the Italian agroecosystems.

Honey bee health is increasingly compromised by multiple interacting stressors, including pathogens whose epidemiology is shaped by environmental and temporal variables. Among them, highly prevalent and impactful are the microsporidian Nosema (=Vairimorpha) ceranae and the black queen cell virus (BQCV). This study presents a large-scale, longitudinal assessment of the two pathogens in managed Apis mellifera colonies across all Italian regions, conducted between the years 2021 and 2024 and involving 12028 samples from 398 apiaries. Molecular qPCR diagnostics revealed N. ceranae in 50.9% of the

Epidemiological Profiles of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection Among Hospitalized Children in a Tropical Setting: A Large Laboratory-Based Surveillance Study From Hainan, China.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of acute respiratory infection in young children, yet subtype-specific and age-stratified epidemiological patterns remain incompletely characterised in tropical settings. To address this gap, we aimed to assess the age distribution and seasonal patterns of RSV infections in a large hospitalized paediatric population. We analysed surveillance data from 27,440 children tested for RSV. Age-specific positivity and subtype distributions were estimated. Seasonal dynamics were assessed using generalised linear mixed models to estimate annual amplit
