[Intracorneal ring segments in keratoconus management].

Intracorneal ring segments (ICRS), used in the management of keratoconus since the 2000s, have enjoyed significant technological development. Various types of ICRS exist, whose arc length, thickness, and diameter can be chosen according to the desired effect on the spherical equivalent, keratometry and asphericity. Individualized implantation strategies, based on each patient's topographic and tomographic pattern, are constantly evolving. The surgical procedure is standardized, and complications remain very rare. Combined procedures (corneal collagen cross-linking and refractive photokeratecto

Phakic intraocular lens implantation for the correction of hyperopia.

The prevalence of myopia is much higher than hyperopia. Hence, there are relatively few studies investigating phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) implantation for the correction of hyperopia. This review aimed to summarize the available relevant literature on the efficacy and safety of pIOL implantation for the correction of hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism. At present, two types of pIOLs are used to correct hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism: anterior chamber iris-fixated pIOLs and posterior chamber implantable collamer lenses. Both have been found to be safe and effective. No serious events (

Mobility and low contrast trip hazard avoidance using augmented depth.

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated a novel visual representation for current and near-term prosthetic vision. Augmented depth emphasizes ground obstacles and floor-wall boundaries in a depth-based visual representation. This is achieved by artificially increasing contrast between obstacles and the ground surface via a novel ground plane extraction algorithm specifically designed to preserve low-contrast ground-surface boundaries. APPROACH: The effectiveness of augmented depth was examined in human mobility trials compared against standard intensity-based (Intensity), depth-based (Depth) and random (Rand

Black-on-black secondary occlusive IOL implantation to alleviate enigmatic light perception through a black IOL.

UNLABELLED: A 61-year-old woman presented with an 18-year history of a debilitating ghosting phenomenon and light perception in her right eye following implantation of a Morcher black intraocular lens (IOL) for intractable diplopia. On 5 occasions, she was referred to hospital ophthalmology, repeatedly requesting right optic nerve transection to alleviate the symptoms. The mechanism of light perception across the occlusive IOL remained enigmatic, preventing appropriate management. Morcher occlusive IOLs transmit high levels of near infrared (IR) light, which may cause light perception under ph

Four-Dimensional Computed Tomography-Guided Valve Sizing for Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Replacement.

The measurements of the right ventricle (RV) and pulmonary artery (PA), for selecting the optimal prosthesis size for transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement (TPVR), vary considerably. Three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) imaging for device size prediction is insufficient to assess the displacement of the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) and PA, which could increase the risk of stent misplacement and paravalvular leak. The aim of this study is to provide a dynamic model to visualize and quantify the anatomy of the RVOT to PA over the entire cardiac cycle by four-dimensional
