Optimization of image quality and radiation dose in low-dose pediatric chest CT Using 80 kVp acquisition and variable ASiR-V reconstruction: A retrospective comparative study.

Radiation dose reduction in pediatric chest computed tomography (CT) is crucial because of increased radiosensitivity and potential long-term cancer risk. Low tube voltage combined with iterative reconstruction can reduce radiation exposure; however, the optimal reconstruction strength that balances image quality and diagnostic acceptability remains unclear. In addition, evidence remains limited regarding the optimal ASiR-V blending level in pediatric low-dose chest CT, particularly when subjective image quality, objective metrics, and radiation dose are evaluated together. This retrospective

Knowledge-based iterative model reconstruction (IMR) algorithm in ultralow-dose CT for evaluation of urolithiasis: evaluation of radiation dose reduction, image quality, and diagnostic performance.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of a knowledge-based iterative model reconstruction (IMR) algorithm for reducing image noise in ultralow-dose (ULD) CT for urolithiasis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 103 patients diagnosed with urinary stones (n = 276) were enrolled. Regular dose (RD) scans (120 kV and 150 mAs, maximal tube current in dose modulation) were reconstructed using filtered back-projection (FBP, RD-FBP), and ULD scans (100 kV and 20 mAs, fixed tube current) were reconstructed with FBP (ULD-FBP), statistical iterative reconstruction (IR; ULD-iDose), and a knowledge-based IMR al

Pleural nodule identification in low-dose and thin-slice lung computed tomography.

A completely automated system for the identification of pleural nodules in low-dose and thin-slice computed tomography (CT) of the lung has been developed. The directional-gradient concentration method has been applied to the pleura surface and combined with a morphological opening-based procedure to generate a list of nodule candidates. Each nodule candidate is characterized by 12 morphological and textural features, which are analyzed by a rule-based filter and a neural classifier. This detection system has been developed and validated on a dataset of 42 annotated CT scans. The k-fold cross

Echocardiographic-fluoroscopic fusion imaging for transcatheter mitral valve repair guidance.

The echocardiographic-fluoroscopic fusion imaging is a new imaging system which has recently become available, with the proposal to facilitate catheters and device navigation during catheter-based structural heart disease interventions. Several reports have described the early developments and the first clinical experiences, but literature focusing on the practical applications of fusion imaging technology to mitral valve transcatheter interventions, and on its potential advantages and current limitations, is still limited. In this review, we, therefore, describe the role of this novel imaging

A Simplex algorithm approach to determine the optimal keV and window setting for appendicitis visualization.

PURPOSE: Contrast-enhanced dual energy CT, with low-mono-energetic CT scanning (conventional 70 keV and low-mono energetic 40 keV) can improve visualization of acute inflammatory processes, but the high iodine attenuation often requires adjustment of window display settings to optimize interpretation. Here, we aim to determine optimal keV and window settings for the visualization of acute appendicitis from images derived from low-mono-energetic-CT. METHODS: 34 patients diagnosed with appendicitis, using dual energy CT, were retrospectively identified. An iterative four-dimensional Simplex opt

Digital Tomosynthesis to Evaluate Fracture Healing: Prospective Comparison With Radiography and CT.

OBJECTIVE: Radiography, currently the standard for postoperative fracture imaging, is limited by overlapping bone and hardware. Tomosynthesis has the benefit of level-by-level imaging without the disadvantages of metal artifacts, increased radiation, and higher costs of CT, the current problem-solving tool. The purpose of this study was to compare tomosynthesis with radiography for evaluating fracture healing. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: In a prospective study, patients within 1 year of wrist hardware fixation underwent radiography, tomosynthesis, and CT, and the images were interpreted by three re

Personalized pulmonary trunk modeling for intervention planning and valve assessment estimated from CT data.

Pulmonary valve disease affects a significant portion of the global population and often occurs in conjunction with other heart dysfunctions. Emerging interventional methods enable percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation, which constitute an alternative to open heart surgery. As minimal invasive procedures become common practice, imaging and non-invasive assessment techniques turn into key clinical tools. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for intervention planning as well as morphological and functional quantification of the pulmonary trunk and valve. An abstraction of the anatomic
