Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is characterized by the complete or partial absence of skin at birth, with 85% of cases of ACC involving the scalp vertex. The etiology of ACC is unclear and appears to be multifactorial. We present the case of a 3-month-old boy who presented with a diagnosis of non-scalp ACC affecting approximately 80% of his total body surface area at birth. This case adds to the literature due to the patient's survival beyond the first day of life and his unique and severe distribution of defects, which led to respiratory compromise and required multidisciplinary management.

BACKGROUND: Sensenbrenner syndrome, also known as cranioectodermal dysplasia (CED), is a genetically heterogeneous ciliopathy, characterized by dysmorphic features including dolichocephaly (with inconstant sagittal craniosynostosis), chronic kidney disease (CKD), hepatic fibrosis, retinitis pigmentosa, and brain abnormalities, with a partial clinical overlap with other ciliopathies.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of four children with Sensenbrenner syndrome treated at the Femme Mère Enfant University Hospital of Lyon from 2005 to 2020 was conducted.
RESULTS: Variants in WDR35 o…

Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is a rare congenital condition characterized by the absence of skin and subcutaneous tissue, typically affecting the scalp. This case report presents a female infant born at 38+3 weeks with a posterior midline scalp defect measuring 15×12.5 mm, involving skin, subcutaneous tissue, and calvarium. The defect was managed with NovoSorb Biodegradable Temporising Matrix (BTM). Initially, the plan involved a subsequent skin graft; however, the defect epithelized without grafting. By 2 months, the wound had healed completely, and by 6 months, the underlying bone had ossif

Transposition flaps are some of the most commonly used flaps for reconstructing scalp defects. Limberg first described his rhomboid transposition flap in 1946. Dufourmentel flap was an improved version of the Limberg flap published in 1962 in which the base of the flap is widened to improve vascularisation. Transposition flaps are one of the best known and most widely used transposition flaps in reconstructive surgery. They have proven successful in different types of reconstructive and aesthetic situations as a full-thickness random transposition flap. Combination of three Dufourmentel flaps

BACKGROUND: Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) of the vertex with bone defect is a rare and begnin anomaly that can involve the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissues of the scalp with significant bone defect Bajpai and Pal (J Pediatr Surg 38(2):e4, 2003). When associated with skull defect, this rare malformation carries the risk of severe complications such as rupture of the superior sagittal sinus or infections.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We report a case of aplasia cutis congenita of the scalp with skull defect measuring 9 × 10 cm and an exposed sagittal sinus in a newborn. Both conservative and

INTRODUCTION: Aplasia cutis congenita is a rare congenital absence of skin most commonly affecting the scalp. Although most defects are small and superficial, approximately 20% of cases involve absence of the skull. Such defects expose the brain and sagital sinus, with concomitant risk of fatal hemorrage, infection, or both. This anomaly most commonly presents as a solitary defect, but sometimes it may occur as multiple lesions. The lesions are noninflammatory and well demarcated, and range is variable from 0.5 cm to 10 cm or more. Although the majority of these scalp defects occurs sporadical

Adams-Oliver syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly complex characterized by aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) and terminal transverse limb defects. We present a 9-year-old girl with a large, congenital scalp defect on her vertex, without underlying bone defect. Brachydactyly and syndactylia of her toes were also evident. Her 13-year-older brother had an 8 x 5 cm scalp defect without any limb defects (isolated ACC).

Aplasia cutis congenita is a condition that can present with a wide variety of symptoms and many attempts have been made to classify it comprehensively. This report presents the first case of a child with aplasia cutis congenita confirmed on histology with an associated lipoma or lipomatosis directly underlying it. It exemplifies the difficulty in diagnosing and treating this rare condition.

Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is a rare disorder characterized by localized absence of skin at birth. A subtype consisting of a solitary scalp defect in association with limb abnormalities has been described. We report a case of ACC in association with 3,4 syndactyly and supernumerary nipples with an apparent autosomal dominant inheritance pattern.
