Risk factors for progression following corneal collagen crosslinking in keratoconus.

PURPOSE: To assess risk factors for progression following corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) in eyes with keratoconus. METHODS: Charts of patients who developed progression following conventional CXL treatment (Dresden protocol) were retrospectively evaluated in two centers (Center 1 and Center 2). 871 eyes of a total of 676 patients were analyzed. Progression was defined as > 1 diopter (D) increase in maximum keratometry (Kmax) readings compared to baseline. RESULTS: Progression was noted in 20 eyes of 20 patients (progression rate 3%). The mean age of the patients was 17.65 ± 5.76 (11-34)

Central corneal thickness in new cases of dry eyes: A case-control study.

SIGNIFICANCE: Loss of homeostasis and chronic inflammation result in ocular surface damage in dry eyes, which is also associated with corneal thinning in established cases. Yet, the correlation between corneal thickness and new cases of dry eyes remains inadequately supported by evidence. PURPOSE: This study aimed to compare the central corneal thickness of new cases of dry eyes to that of age- and gender-matched controls. METHODS: A total of 45 dry eye patients were compared with 61 age- and gender-matched non-dry eye individuals. The Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire was us

A Comparison of Central Corneal Thicknesses Measured with Two Different Methods in Cases of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma.

Accurate and repeatable measurement of the central cornea thickness (CCT) is important in terms of follow-up of glaucoma patients. The aim of this study was to compare CCT measurements made with an ultrasonic pachymeter (USP) and with the Spectralis Anterior Segment Module optical coherence tomography (OCT) device. The study included 52 eyes of 26 primary open-angle glaucoma patients. CCT measurements were taken with the USP device and then with the OCT by imaging cornea slices. The mean CCT was measured as 555.71 ± 47.76 μm with USP and 569.46 ± 49.5 μm with OCT. Despite the differences betwe

Feasibility of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty with preloaded and trifolded graft after 96-hour storage and shipping.

PURPOSE: Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) donor grafts can be safely trifolded, preloaded, and shipped for up to 96 hours without significant endothelial cell loss; however, clinical outcomes of such storage times have yet to be reported in human patients. Here we report a case of a trifolded, preloaded DMEK graft stored for 96 hours and transplanted in a 68-year-old female with Fuchs endothelial dystrophy. METHODS: The DMEK graft was preloaded and trifolded with post-processing endothelial cell density (ECD) of 2558 cells/mm.2 Intraoperatively, it was pulled into the anterio
