Dermatoglyphics in patients with Cenani-Lenz type syndactyly: studies in a new case.

We describe an additional case of Cenani-Lenz syndactylism in a 4 1/2-year-old boy from a consanguineous Turkish family. The digital anomalies consisted partly of synostosis and partly of malformations of the phalanges. Although there was no radio-ulnar synostosis or abnormality of the bones of the feet, the findings are comparable to those described in the Cenani-Lenz type of syndactyly. We analysed the dermatoglyphics of our patient and compared them with those previously reported. We also investigated the relationship between the bony malformations and the dermatoglyphic patterns in our pat

Correlation of palatal anatomic characteristics with dermatoglyphic heterogeneity in different growth patterns.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to explore the correlation between dermatoglyphic patterns and quantitative palatal anatomic variables in individuals with different growth patterns. MATERIALS AND METHOD: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 126 healthy patients aged 17-25 years. Participants were divided into three groups based on growth patterns: average, vertical, and horizontal. Dermatoglyphic patterns were recorded using an optical fingerprint sensor, and palatal characteristics were measured using digital software. Palatal characteristics, including intercanine width, inter

Interdisciplinary approach for somatoprosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with clino-syndactyly and unusual dermatoglyphics.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic injuries are the most common cause of finger amputations. Therapeutic amputations are less common but may be essential in some patients with congenital malformations of digits. CASE DESCRIPTION AND METHODS: A 21-year-old female patient reported for esthetic management of malformed middle and ring finger of right hand. Examination revealed clino-syndactyly with unusual dermatoglyphics. She was successfully rehabilitated by collaborative efforts of plastic surgeon and prosthodontist, by therapeutic amputation with surgical recontouring and fabrication of somatoprosthesis.

Association between cerebral structural abnormalities and dermatoglyphic ridge counts in schizophrenia.

Dermatoglyphic ridge counts (1) reflect ontogenic processes during the second trimester of pregnancy and (2) can be influenced by some of the factors that also affect cerebral development. Therefore, the demonstration of an association between dermatoglyphic and cerebral structural measures in patients with schizophrenia would give credence to the view that the structural brain abnormalities associated with this disorder have their origin early in development. Twenty-eight male subjects with schizophrenia and 19 male controls underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and dermatoglyphic analys

On the association between adult blood pressure and dermatoglyphics as prenatal markers of development.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the relationships between finger and palm print (dermatoglyphic) features and, first, the presence or absence of hypertension, and, secondly, blood pressure levels in non-hypertensive subjects. METHODS: Prints were available from 841 male World War II veteran twins (393 pairs, 55 individual cotwins), who were born in the USA between 1917 and 1927 and examined three different times between 1969 and 1987. At each examination the hypertensive status was assessed by blood pressure measurement, use of antihypertensive medications and two physicians' diagnostic impressions. R

The dermatoglyphic and clinical features of the 9p trisomy and partial 9p monosomy syndromes.

The physical and dermatoglyphic features obtained from published reports of 128 patients with the trisomy 9p syndrome and 27 patients with the partial 9p monosomy syndrome are tabulated. This information is also provided on two new individuals with each of these chromosomal disorders. The dermal ridge patterns and palmar creases of trisomy 9p which are most helpful from a diagnostic standpoint are zygodactylous or absent palmar digital triradii, brachymesophalangy, reduced total finger ridge count, complex thenar/ID I patterns, transverse palmar ridge alignment, simian creases, distal axial tr

De Lange syndrome. Clinical, dermatoglyphic and chromosomal findings in nine cases.

Nine cases of the de Lange syndrome are reviewed. Our findings show that the facial characteristics in the present series and in previously reported cases are remarkably similar. Dermatoglyphically, we have documented an increased incidence of tibial loops on the hallucal area and increased incidence of single flexion creases of the digits from this study series. Our study also supports the previous authors who have recorded an increased incidence in radial loops on the second and third digits and increased incidence of simian lines. We have not been able to document a consistent chromosomal d

Effects of DISC1 and hypoxia-sensitive genes on dermatoglyphics and cognitive function in schizophrenia.

Dermatoglyphics are considered neurodevelopmental markers due to their shared ectodermal origin with the central nervous system. After birth, dermatoglyphics remain unchanged, as stable indicators of genetic and environmental influences shaping early development. Their simplification, disruption, or asymmetry has been associated with schizophrenia (SZ) risk. Polymorphic variability at DISC1 and other prenatal risk-sensitive genes has also been linked to SZ. This study investigated the influence of DISC1 and other hypoxia-related genes on SZ risk through a family-based analysis of dermatoglyphi

Characterization of Dermatoglyphic Profiles and its Relation to Acoustic Measures in Voice Professionals.

INTRODUCTION: Acoustic analysis is widely used for assessing and monitoring vocal function. Dermatoglyphics is a method that analyzes genetic fingerprint markers, and uses that information for predicting physical skills related to anaerobic (explosive strength and speed) and aerobic (motor coordination and resistance) mechanisms. Therefore, it can be used as an indicator for individualized vocal training. OBJECTIVE: To characterize the dermatoglyphic profiles and their relation to acoustic measures in voice professionals. METHODS: A cross-sectional study involving 79 voice professionals. Aco

Comparison of Quantitative and Qualitative Dermatoglyphic Characteristics of Opium Addicts with Healthy Individuals.

BACKGROUND: Recreational drugs have a significant impact on the lives of drug users, their close families andfriends, as well as their society. Social, psychological, biological, and genetic factors could make a personmore prone to using recreational drugs. Finger and A-B ridges (dermatoglyphics) are formed during the firstand second trimesters of fetal development, under the influence of environmental and genetic factors. Theaim of our study was to investigate and evaluate a possible link between dermatoglyphics and opium usage. METHODS: The pattern of dermatoglyphics - finger and A-B prints

The status of dermatoglyphics as a biomarker of Tel Hashomer camptodactyly syndrome: a review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION: Tel Hashomer camptodactyly syndrome is a rare disease and only a few cases have been reported. Dermatoglyphics potentially provide relevant phenotypic biomarkers that were initially noted as a vital clinical feature of this disease. Dermatoglyphics possibly can indicate growth disturbances that took place during early fetal development at the time when epidermal ridges were being formed into discernable patterns. Consequently, these intrauterine effects might well have occurred in association with the expression of the Tel Hashomer camptodactyly syndrome. Therefore, this review w

Dermatoglyphics in relation to brain volumes in twins concordant and discordant for bipolar disorder.

Palmar and finger dermatoglyphics are formed between the 10th and the 17th weeks of gestation and their morphology can be influenced by genetic or environmental factors, interfering with normal intrauterine development. As both the skin and the brain develop from the same embryonal ectoderm, dermatoglyphic alterations may be informative for early abnormal neurodevelopmental processes in the brain. We investigated whether dermatoglyphic alterations are related to structural brain abnormalities in bipolar disorder and to what extent they are of a genetic and of an environmental origin. Study of the fingertip pattern as a tool for the identification of the dermatoglyphic trait in bronchial asthma.

INTRODUCTION: Bronchial Asthma is one of the most extensively studied respiratory diseases and its genetic basis is well established. Dermatoglyphic traits are formed under genetic control early in development but may be affected by environmental factors during first trimester of pregnancy. These patterns may represent the genetic makeup of an individual and therefore his/her predisposition to certain diseases. Patterns of dermatoglyphics have been studied in various congenital disorders like Down's syndrome, Klinefelter's syndrome and also in chronic diseases like Hypertension, Diabetes Melli

Dermatoglyphic evaluation in subjects and parents of cleft lip with and without cleft palate.

Objectives : Dermatoglyphic patterns make good material for genetic studies because they remain stable throughout life. Given that the primary palate, lip, and dermal ridges develop during the same period of intrauterine life, the genetic message contained in the genome can be deciphered during this period and is reflected by dermatoglyphics. This study was undertaken to compare the dermatoglyphic patterns in subjects with clefts and controls and both their parents to study the genetic etiology. Methods : A total of 294 subjects (48 cleft subjects and 50 healthy controls with both their parent
