Non-syndromic hypotrichosis: A report of two novel variants in the LSS gene.

To date, more than 15 genes have been linked to syndromic and non-syndromic hypotrichosis, among which the LSS gene encoding lanosterol synthase was recently linked to autosomal recessive isolated hypotrichosis. Here we report the case of a 6-year-old girl born to non-consanguineous Iraqi parents and presenting with sparse lanugo hair since birth on the scalp, eyelashes, and eyebrows. Whole exome sequencing followed by Sanger sequencing allowed the detection of two novel compound heterozygous variants in LSS (p.Ile323Thr and p.Gly600Val). Reporting and investigating further cases with LSS vari

[A case report of chronic granulomatous disease with CYBB gene mutation in an adult].

We reported a 28-year-old male patient who had been admitted to a local hospital for several times in the past four years because of recurrent fever and cough. Each chest CT scan during hospitalization showed consolidation accompanied by exudation and mild pleural effusion. After treatment, the consolidation apparently absorbed, but similar symptoms recurred within half a year, and the new consolidation appeared. For this reason, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis or bacterial pneumonia several times in other hospitals, and was hospitalized two to three times a year. Finally, he was diagnosed

[Postpartum fatal pulmonary embolism with F5 gene mutation: a case report].

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the leading causes of maternal death. Various clinical and environmental risk factors can cause PE. Here, we reported an uncommon PE case with multiple etiological causes, including caesarean section, overweight, anti-cardiolipin antibody positive, and factor 5 gene mutation. The patient was a 25-year-old woman who developed cardiac asystole and apnea one day after cesarean delivery due to pulmonary embolism. After cardiopulmonary resuscitation and thrombolytic therapy, high doses of epinephrine were still needed to maintain blood pressure and heart rate, so w

Cylindroma of the breast with CYLD gene mutation: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Cylindroma of the breast is a rare benign neoplasm. Since its first description in 2001, 20 cases have been reported in the literature. METHODS AND RESULTS: We report another case of this rare tumor in a 60-year-old woman with demonstration of the underlying molecular alteration. Histologically, the tumor showed the typical "jigsaw" pattern of a dual population of cells with a triple-negative phenotype. The pathognomonic mutation of the CYLD gene mutation was detected by whole exome sequencing. Cylindromas show morphological overlap with the solid-basaloid variant of adenoid cysti

[Bilateral pheochromocytoma associates with TMEM127 gene mutation. Report of one case].

Up to 40% of Pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma syndromes are associated with germline mutations. Therefore, they are considered familial and heritable. We report a 65 year old woman with hypertension, bilateral adrenal nodules found in the CT scan and elevated urinary metanephrines. Her genetic testing showed a c.117_120delGTCT TMEM127 gene mutation. She was subjected to a laparoscopic bilateral adrenal excision. After five years of follow up, no recurrence of the disease has been recorded.

Cystinosis and two rare mutations in CTNS gene: two case reports.

BACKGROUND: Cystinosis is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by an accumulation of the amino acid cystine in lysosomes throughout the body. Cystinosis is an inherited disease resulting from the failure of lysosomal cystine transport. The responsible gene, Cystinosin, Lysosomal Cystine Transporter (CTNS), encodes the lysosomal cystine carrier cystinosin. CASE PRESENTATION: In this case report, we reviewed the genetic basis of cystinosis and investigated two Iranian cases affected by cystinosis, one of which revealed a rare mutation in the CTNS gene. Two patients, 9-year-old (patient

Mixed porokeratosis with a novel mevalonate kinase gene mutation: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Porokeratosis is a rare, acquired, or inherited disorder of keratinization. There are numerous clinical types of porokeratosis and they can coexist in one patient and multiple members of an affected family. However, coexistence of disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis (DSAP) and porokeratosis ptychotropica (Ppt) is rare. CASE SUMMARY: A 45-year-old man presented with long-standing skin lesions. Physical examination identified numerous small, brown 2-mm to 4-mm patches on his face and several hyperkeratotic, verrucous plaques on his trunk and extremities. His father and on

Expression Pattern of the LacZ Reporter in Secretogranin III Gene-trapped Mice.

Secretogranin III (SgIII) is a granin protein involved in secretory granule formation in peptide-hormone-producing endocrine cells. In this study, we analyzed the expression of the LacZ reporter in the SgIII knockout mice produced by gene trapping (SgIII-gtKO) for the purpose of comprehensively clarifying the expression patterns of SgIII at the cell and tissue levels. In the endocrine tissues of SgIII-gtKO mice, LacZ expression was observed in the pituitary gland, adrenal medulla, and pancreatic islets, where SgIII expression has been canonically revealed. LacZ expression was extensively obser
