Infrared thermography and meridian-effect evidence and explanation in Bell's palsy patients treated by moxibustion at the Hegu (LI4) acupoint: Overall regulation or a specific target?

Subjects with Bell's palsy and healthy individuals were treated with moxibustion thermal stimulation on the Hegu (LI4) acupoint; an infrared thermal imaging system was used to observe facial-temperature changes. Bell's palsy patients developed low or high temperatures at the affected side, with poor symmetry. Healthy people showed high temperatures on the forehead, medial angle of the eye, nasal ala and around the lips, but low temperatures on bilateral cheeks, thus forming a "T-type hot area" in the face, with good temperature symmetry. Moxibustion treatment for 11 minutes significantly impro

Effect of BMI-stratified management based on the meridian-lymph axis theory on lower extremity lymphedema after gynecological cancer surgery: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Lower-extremity lymphedema (LEL) is a chronic complication after gynecological cancer surgery. Obesity may aggravate lymphatic dysfunction and reduce the effectiveness of standard physical management. We evaluated a BMI-stratified integrated intervention informed by a meridian-lymph conceptual framework. METHODS: A total of 60 patients with gynecological cancer-related LEL were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to an intervention group (n=30) or a control group (n=30). The intervention group received BMI-stratified meridian massage and dietary and health guidance for 6 months, wher

Connections found between each meridian (heart, stomach, triple burner, etc.) & organ representation area of corresponding internal organs in each side of the cerebral cortex; release of common neurotransmitters and hormones unique to each meridian and corresponding acupuncture point & internal organ after acupuncture, electrical stimulation, mechanical stimulation (including shiatsu), soft laser stimulation or QI Gong.

Using the "Bi-Digital O-Ring Test Imaging Technique", the author has been able to accurately localize meridians and acupuncture points that correspond to specific internal organs and has found that most general patterns of meridians and the number of acupuncture points on each of the meridians of specific internal organs of the 12 main internal organs described in the literature of ancient Chinese medicine, are more or less correct, with the exception of some variations and inaccuracies. Each meridian of specific internal organs was found to be connected to the organ representation area in the

Warm acupuncture combined with precise meridian sinew needling for refractory peripheral facial paralysis: a propensity score-matched retrospective study on clinical efficacy and infrared thermal imaging.

BACKGROUND: Refractory peripheral facial paralysis (RPFP) affects 15%-20% of patients with facial palsy, leading to poor recovery and reduced quality of life. Current treatments yield limited efficacy, and objective evidence for acupuncture-based therapies remains scarce. METHODS: We addressed this gap by conducting a propensity score-matched retrospective study in 166 RPFP patients (H-B grade ≥ III, duration ≥ 3 months). Patients were divided into an observation group (warm acupuncture plus precise meridian sinew needling, n = 83) and a control group (conventional acupuncture, n = 83). Outco

Stimuli-evoked NOergic molecules and neuropeptides at acupuncture points and the gracile nucleus contribute to signal transduction of propagated sensation along the meridian through the dorsal medulla-thalamic pathways.

Numerous studies from different international groups have demonstrated that sensations can be propagated along acupuncture channel pathways. The propagated sensation along the channel pathway (PSCP) can be elicited by electroacupuncture (EA), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), manual acupuncture (MA), and heat applied to distal acupuncture points (acupoints). Nitric oxide (NO) levels were reported to be elevated in the gracile nucleus and skin regions near to the EA sites, with higher levels at acupoints associated with an enhanced expression of NO synthase and transient recep

The BMEA study: the impact of meridian balanced method electroacupuncture on women with chronic pelvic pain-a three-arm randomised controlled pilot study using a mixed-methods approach.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) affects 3-4% of women worldwide. Proven treatments for CPP are limited and unsatisfactory. The meridian balance method (BM) electroacupuncture (EA) treatment (BMEA + Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Consultation (TCM HC) may be effective for CPP. Previous EA studies have demonstrated an analgesic effect. Large-scale studies on acupuncture for other chronic pain conditions suggest that patient-healthcare provider interaction might play a role in pain reduction. We propose a pilot study to explore the effectiveness of the meridian BMEA treatment in mana

Unique changes found on the Qi Gong (Chi Gong) Master's and patient's body during Qi Gong treatment; their relationships to certain meridians & acupuncture points and the re-creation of therapeutic Qi Gong states by children & adults.

Changes taking place in both Qi Gong Masters and their patients during Qi Gong treatment were evaluated using the Bi-Digital O-Ring Test. During the Qi Gong state, on the Qi-Gong Master's body, as well as the body of the patient being treated, acupuncture points CV5 (Shi Men) and CV6 (Qi Hai)-- located below the umbilicus-- show changes from +4 in the pre-Qi Gong state to between -3 and -4 during the Qi Gong state. Before and after the Qi Gong, there is a normal +4 response to the Bi-Digital O-Ring Test at these acupuncture points. Similar changes were also observed on acupuncture points CV17

Parastigmatic corneal surfaces.

Principal meridians of the corneal vertex of the human ocular system are not always orthogonal. To study these irregular surfaces at the vertex, which have principal meridians with an angle different from 90°, we attempt to define so-called parastigmatic surfaces; these surfaces allow us to correct several classes of irregular astigmatism, with nonorthogonal principal meridians, using a simple refractive surface. We will create a canonical surface to describe the surfaces of the human cornea with a short and simple formula, using two additional parameters to the current prescription: the angle

Characterising the orientation-specific pattern-onset visual evoked potentials in children with bilateral refractive amblyopia and non-amblyopic controls.

PURPOSE: An orientation-specific visual evoked potential (osVEP) protocol was developed to probe meridional anisotropies in children with refractive amblyopia. The aim was to characterise the osVEP response in children with bilateral refractive amblyopia, evaluate the intra-session repeatability of the main osVEP components (C1, C2 and C3), coefficient of repeatability (CoR) of the response to gratings in different meridians and determine if refractive amblyopes have poorer repeatability as compared with non-amblyopic controls. METHODS: Children aged 4-7 years with newly diagnosed and untreat

Paraxial ocular measurements and entries in spectral and modal matrices: analogy and application.

Lensometers and keratometers yield powers along perpendicular meridians even if the principal meridians of the lens and the cornea are oblique. From each such instrument, multiple raw data represented on optical crosses require conversion to determine elementary statistics. Calculations for research decisions need to be authentic. Principles common to meridians generalize formulaic methods for oblique meridians. Like a lens or a cornea, matrix latent quantities are represented on a matrix cross. Our problem is to determine the matrix whose cross represents quantities on the optical cross. All

[Terminology investigation on "Jingmai binghou"].

"Jingmai binghou" (meridian symptoms) is not the original term in ancient works, and it is proposed in modern teaching materials of acupuncture. It refers to "the diseases caused by the invasion of pathogenic factors into meridians", and "diseases of the affected meridians", recorded in jingmai (Meridian) of Lingshu (Miraculous Pivot). The proposal of this term is related to the academic tendency of textbook writers and the influence of TCM policy in China. Through collating and analyzing the records of meridian disorders in ancient works, it is found that besides the classic "meridian symptom
