Flexible fiberoptic technology was first applied to cystoscopy in 1973, with greatly increased usage since 1982. Most procedures formerly performed with rigid cystoscopes can be done using flexible cystoscopes with minimal or no anesthesia. Patient positioning and precystocopy preparation and draping are simplified with the flexible fiberoptic instruments. Complete examination of the urethra and bladder can be performed with a single-lens system and with the patient in a variety of positions. Fiberoptic cystoscopy is limited in patients who are bleeding or have blood clots in their bladders. W

Background: Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are a major concern in patients with long-term indwelling urinary catheters, especially those with neurogenic bladder. This study assessed whether proactive cystoscopic removal of bladder debris reduces symptomatic UTI incidence and catheter blockage. Methods: This prospective, self-selected cohort study was conducted between January 2022 and December 2025 at a tertiary center in Taiwan. Enrollment occurred from January 2022 to June 2024, with follow-up completed by December 2025. Patients chose standard CDC-guided care (control

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether Zuidex using a non-cystoscopy mid-urethral injection technique produces as good a result (i.e. was not inferior) as Contigen injected endoscopically at the bladder neck in the treatment of urinary stress incontinence secondary to intrinsic sphincter deficiency in adult women.
METHODS: A prospective 2:1 randomized trial of mid-urethral injections of Zuidex-Implacer vs proximal urethral cystoscopic injections of Contigen was performed in 344 women with intrinsic sphincter deficiency at 23 North American sites, and followed up for >1 year from last treatment.

The technique of transcervical catheterization for artificial insemination has gained practical importance over the last 3 and 1 decades in bitches and queens, respectively. The vagina of both species has a thickening of the dorsal aspect called dorsal medial fold, which restricts the lumen of the paracervix, making catheterization of the cervix difficult both with manual and endoscopic techniques. Manual catheters have been used initially in the bitch and are now gradually being replaced by rigid endoscopy through the adaptation of human cystoscopes and ureteroscopes. Cystoscopes provide exce

PURPOSE: The crucial shortcoming of cystoscopy is that it does not measure the size of observed objects, and so we developed a new device that adds measurement capability to the cystoscope.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The device consists of 5 arms linked to each other by freely bending joints. Before use 1 end of the arm is fixed to the examination table and the other end is linked to the eyepiece of the cystoscope. While linked to the arms, the cystoscope can move freely in any direction. Each joint carries an accurate sensor to measure its angle. The angle measurements are calculated collectivel

Ureteric stents are an important tool in urology and have a wide range of indications. While they offer a number of advantages, limitations remain despite modern advancements. These include discomfort, migration and encrustation. Standard removal is via cystoscopy but in the paediatric setting this mandates general anaesthetic, which holds disadvantages. Alternative removal methods include use of extraction strings and magnetic retrieval devices, which can be performed in the outpatient setting. This systematic review evaluates the safety and efficacy of different non-cystoscopic methods for s

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Flexible cystoscopy is well tolerated by women. Reprocessing of cystoscopes requires sterilization or, at least, high-level disinfection (HLD). This study aims to assess the incidence of bacteriuria after flexible cystoscopy using ortho-phthalaldehyde HLD.
METHODS: This is a prospective study. Seventy-eight women undergoing diagnostic outpatient flexible cystoscopy were included. Exclusion criteria were microbiologically confirmed or acute urinary tract infection, significant urethral stricture, and bleeding disorders. Cystoscopes were reprocessed using ortho-phth

Endoscopy of the urinary tract remains the cornerstone of urological therapy. Over the years, continued refinement of the endoscopic instruments has permitted a progressive increase in the number and methods of their application. The development of the smaller diameter, flexible endoscopes represents the greatest advance in urological endoscopy. Their characteristics permit greater versatility with less traumatic procedures, increasing patient comfort and minimizing iatrogenic injury. Spinal cord injury (SCI) patients are a select group, which require special attention when undergoing endoscop

A 2-month-old male infant with a prenatally diagnosed obstruction of the ureteropelvic junction underwent a dismembered Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty. A transanastomotic double J ureteral stent was placed between the renal pelvis and the urinary bladder. This report describes the subsequent removal of the double J ureteral stent from the patient's urinary bladder without the aid of a cystoscope: a rigid biopsy forceps was introduced trans-urethrally into the urinary bladder, and the stent was removed with sonographic guidance. Removal of a ureteral stent with sonographic guidance has not been pre

The cystoscope used today is the product of centuries of development. The desire to view the cavities of the body was first described several centuries ago. The earliest true prototype was Bozinni's 1805 urethral viewing tube, on which many others were based. These primitive instruments were challenging to use for the operator, uncomfortable for the patient, and dangerous for both. Patient positioning was based on the method of bladder distension and the goal of the operation, rather than comfort. Images visualized by early models were inverted and backwards, and required the operator to be sk

We report a case of vesicouterine fistula presenting after cesarean operation. The fistula was treated successfully by cystoscopic fulguration of the tract and hormonal amenorrhea. Although various surgical approaches to this problem have been described, to date there is no reports of treatment of this problem via cystoscopic fulguration and hormonal amenorrhea. The problem has been solved by hormonal amenorrhea and cystoscopic fulguration. We advocate this simple technique as a primary approach to proper case of vesicouterine fistulas.
