New macrocyclic diterpenes from Euphorbia connata Boiss. with cytotoxic activities on human breast cancer cell lines.

Acetone:chloroform (1:2) extract of the aerial parts of Euphorbia connata Boiss. (Euphorbiaceae) was investigated for its diterpenoids. This led to the isolation of one known and two new diterpenes, belonging to the pentahydroxy-13(17)-epoxy-8,10(18)-myrsinadiene and tetrahydroxy-5,6-epoxy-14-oxo-jatropha-11(E)-ene classes. The structures were elucidated based on (13)C and (1)H NMR as well as 2D NMR, IR and MS spectra and the cytotoxicity for compounds 1-3 were evaluated by using MTT assay against two human breast cancer cell lines. Antioxidant activity of an ethnobotanically important plant Quisqualis indica Linn.

The antioxidant potential of leaf, stem, root and flower extracts of Quisqualis indica Linn. was assessed to verify its ethnopharmacological importance. Both polar and non-polar solvents like n-hexane, chloroform, ethanol and distilled water were used to obtain crude extracts. The chloroform extract of leaves showed the maximum %age yield, i.e. 27.3% while the n-hexane extract of stem showed the minimum yield, i.e. 0.2%. Five activities including DPPH free radical scavenging activity, ABTS+ assay, Total flavonoid components (TFC), Total phenolic components (TPC) and Metal chelating Assay (MC)

Systemic signaling during plant defense.

Systemic acquired resistance (SAR) is a type of pathogen-induced broad-spectrum resistance in plants. During SAR, primary infection-induced rapid generation and transportation of mobile signal(s) 'prepare' the rest of the plant for subsequent infections. Several, seemingly unrelated, mobile chemical inducers of SAR have been identified, at least two of which function in a feed-back regulatory loop with a lipid transfer-like protein. Signal(s) perception in the systemic tissues relies on the presence of an intact cuticle, the waxy layer covering all aerial parts of the plant. SAR results in chr

Strategies for quantitative analysis and preparation of hepatoprotective rosmarinic acid of Lycopus lucidus aerial parts.

The present study investigated strategies for quantifying and preparing rosmarinic acid from Lycopus lucidus, a promising natural source of the bioactive compound. Quantitative 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (qHNMR) was introduced for quantitative analysis, with universal detection being one of its strong features, which made it advantageous for analyzing crude extracts containing various types of compounds. As a result, the L. lucidus leaf extract (LLE) was determined to contain 3.92 ± 0.02% (w/w) rosmarinic acid in the use of caffeine as a universal internal calibrant. Moreover, the countercu

The biological activities and phytochemical composition of Alchemilla daghestanica and Alchemilla minusculiflora were investigated for the first time. Methanol extracts from the aerial and root parts of both species were assessed. The total phenolic content was highest in the root extracts. A. daghestanica root (Alda root) and A. minusculiflora root (Almin root) exhibited by 91.58% radical scavenging activity at 200 µg/mL, comparable to gallic acid (91.98%). Alda root inhibited COX-1 by 85.79% and COX-2 by 91.89% at 200 µg/mL, while Almin root inhibited COX-1 by 83.99% and COX-2 by 91.82%. Ela

Therapeutic Potential of Salvia greggii Extracts in Promoting Wound Healing: Insights From Scratch Assay, Wound Model, and Molecular Analysis.

Wounds are a common cause of skin infections, and natural products are widely explored for their therapeutic potential. This study investigated the wound-healing activity of Salvia greggii A.Gray (Lamiaceae). Aerial parts were collected and extracted using different solvents. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu and colorimetric assays, respectively, while antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH method. Extracts were screened for cell viability, and the most active fractions were evaluated using a scratch assay in human gingival fibroblasts. An in v

Phytochemical profiling, metabolomics, and molecular docking studies of Atriplex halimus aerial parts revealing potential insecticidal activity against the malaria vector Anopheles pharoensis.

Atriplex halimus is traditionally used in folk medicine for the treatment of skin infections, inflammation, and parasitic disorders. The aerial parts of A. halimus were extracted with 70% methanol and fractionated into dichloromethane (DCM), ethyl acetate (EtOAc), n-butanol (BuOH), and aqueous fractions. Comprehensive UPLC/MS profiling identified seventy-eight secondary metabolites, predominantly flavonoids and their derivatives, followed by triterpenoids and minor constituents. The antimicrobial activities of the extract and its fractions were assessed against Staphylococcus aureus and Escher

Safety evaluation of ethanolic extract from aerial flowering part of spiny globe thistle (Echinops spinosus) in mice: Phytochemical screening and genotoxicity.

Echinops spinosus is widely used by the population due to its therapeutic potential; however, there is no evidence in the literature that substantiates its safety. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the chemical constituents of E. spinosus extract via GC/MS analysis and evaluate its cytotoxicity and genotoxicity. Male mice were orally given three doses of E. spinosus extract (250, 500, and 1000 mg/kg) for four weeks. Blood and tissue samples were collected after the end of treatment. GC-MS results revealed 73 compounds in the E. spinosus extract, including sugars, sugar alcohols, fatty ac

Miconidin and miconidin methyl ether from Primula obconica Hance: new allergens in an old sensitizer.

Several chemical and clinical observations have suggested the presence of at least one more allergen in addition to primin in Primula obconica. The aim of this study was to investigate the allergenicity of the primin precursor miconidin and the related miconidin methyl ether, both isolated from P. obconica. 12 primin-positive persons were patch tested with miconidin 0.01% petrolatum (pet.), miconidin in 96% ethanol incorporated into 0.01% pet., and miconidin methyl ether 1.0% pet. All persons were positive to miconidin 0.01% pet., with the strength of reactions very similar to those of the ind

Euphthymifolols A-E, anti-inflammatory jatrophane-type macrocyclic diterpenoids from Euphorbia thymifolia L.

Euphthymifolols A-E (1-5), five undescribed jatrophane diterpenoids feature with a typically 5/12 bicyclic skeleton, were characterised from the aerial parts of Euphorbia thymifolia L. A thorough analysis of the spectroscopic data and biosynthetic pathway elucidated their planar structures and stereoconfiguration. Compound 4 exhibited moderate nitric oxide (NO) inhibitory activity (IC50 63.3 ± 1.94 μM) against LPS-induced BV-2 microglia cells.

Iridoids and other constituents from the aerial parts of Patrinia rupestris and their inhibitory effects on nitric oxide production.

Forty-three compounds, including nine undescribed compounds, five iridoids (patrirupesins A-E, 1-5) and four bis-iridoids (patrirupesins F-I, 6-9), were isolated from the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the aerial parts of Patrinia rupestris (Pall.)
