The megakaryocytic ploidy was microfluorometrically measured in 12 normal controls and 15 myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients using DAPI (4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) staining after destaining of the Wright-Giemsa (WG) stain. MDS patients had slightly more immature megakaryocytes when compared with normal controls. A loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay allows rapid diagnosis of Toxoplasma gondii infection. In the present study, the LAMP assay was evaluated using blood from both naturally and experimentally infected pigs. The sensitivity of the LAMP assay was compared with that of Q-PCR. Both assays detected T. gondii in the blood of experimentally infected pigs, with 100% agreement. In infected blood samples, the parasite was detected as early as 2 days post-infection and reached a peak in 3-5 days. We studied the frequency of karyotype abnormalities in 74 mentally retarded patients selected from 306 patients referred to our clinic. Giemsa-banding was done on all cases. OBJECTIVE: Leishmania tropica (L. tropica) and Leishmania infantum (L. infantum) are the species causing cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) in Turkey. There was a wave of immigration due civil war in Syria in 2011. Migration from Syria, where CL is endemic, to other countries is thought to affect the number of CL cases and species diversity. The aim of the study was to typify the samples of CL positive, pre-migration and post-migration Turkish patients and importe (Syrian) patients whose smears were found in the archive and to reveal the difference of CL species before and after migration in Hatay.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis is endemic in Iran. Scraping smears are widely used and fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology is now attracting more attention. Karyotypes of bone marrow cells from 24 patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and two patients with de novo plasma cell leukaemia (PCL) were analysed by Giemsa banding (G banding). To establish the possible involvement of acidic lipids in 5-HT receptor mechanisms, we subjected whole rat brain synaptic plasma membranes to treatment with several kinds of lipid-modifying reagents and examined the [3H]5-HT and [3H]spiperone binding properties of the membranes. The report relates to a new case of small supernumerary metacentric chromosome. The phenotypical variability of previously published cases suggests that this chromosomal anomaly may arise from multiple origins.
